Stoke wasted some good chances in the last 10 minutes from Diouf, Ramadan, Moting, but New Castle wasted more than that in 80 minutes, They deserved to win.
Draw against man u and loss to new castle = 1 point Loss against man u and win against new castle = 3 points , this is why these games are more important than other games against top 6

That's shit. All the intensity against Man Utd and Arsenal and we play like that against Newcastle. Poor mentality So you thought we just had to turn up to win fuck me when are Stoke fans gonna realise every game is different, just wasn't our day today. We had enough chances to get something. We will win some lose some and draw some and finish mid table, what else do you expect? What are you on about? The mentality of the players was poor today, considering we played with much more intensity and desire against top teams and turned up today looking half the team? Your point doesn't make any sense and certainly isn't an argument against what I said.

Better team won. Defence is still suspect. Attack is as disjointed as it has been for a long time. Got the feeling we expected the opposition to roll over. Hope Sparky shows some class in the post match interview and recognises the above.

Wake up call.....you have to fight for the right to play your football. They wanted it more today and had more chances, but we still had enough ourselves late on to snatch a (fairly undeserved) point. Immediate thoughts: 1. We miss Ryan.....a lot. 2. Wimmer is not yet up to speed after so long on the Spurs bench. Let's hope there is more to come as he settles in. 3. We have no proper central striker and both Jese and Choupo prefer attacking from the left. 4. Hughes has lost faith in Saido and it coud be a long way back for him. 5. This is Shaq's season to shine. He is our main man after the Arnie sale and he could well be the difference between challenging for the top ten and a lower midtable finish. The old concern of Hughes' ability to motivate the players comes to mind again as does Hughes' inability to organise his teams to defend set pieces. After such a good stsrt to the season, I feel a bit fed up with this defeat. Before the season began, I thought we would lose this match. However, after the last couple of games I was much more hopeful. I hate losing. Still not certain how this season will pan out. Never mind - this is Stoke isn't it. Fuck me Marchy you and me are old enough to NEVER hope, it's the hope that kills you, typical Stoke!

Really disappointing performance and result just hope it's a bad day at the office. Thought the only 2 that came out of the game with any credit were Shaq and Zouma who I thought were both excellent.
Observations
- Needs the ball. Total class act brilliant passer. - They played like they wanted it more than us. - Neither Jese or Choupa are strikers and it's unfair to play them there just so we fit them both in the side.We have to play one of our strikers whether it's Diouf, Bera, NGoye or Crouch. - Allen is to lightweight for DM. With his skills I'd be tempted to play Zouma there till we get a beast in. - No questioning Jacks top class but is it me or does he seem wary of coming for crosses. - Crouchy is still a decent option off the bench. Thought he caused them problems when he came on. - We still haven't fixed a lot of the problems from last season re a physical presence in the middle and a target man MH can trust. - Ryan playing gives us better balance at the back. Wimmer and Indi didn't look comfortable. - Hopefully it's just a bad day at the office but it's a game we should have been looking to get at least a point from. - Newcastle aren't a great side and we made them look half decent.

Deservedly lost, could've been by a lot more if Joselu had his shooting boots on.
Same old problems resurfaced today, our inability to defend set pieces and going to pot after conceding. I think we just need to accept that whilst Hughes is our manager we'll always gift teams goals from corners.
Only really Shaqiri is worthy of any praise, you won't win many matches at any level when literally only one player bothers turning up. Special mentions to Wimmer, Diouf, Jese and particularly Allen who were the worst of a bad bunch.

What are the benefits of Zonal Marking for Stoke City? I struggle to find even one argument for it's use? Is it about the holding in the box? Because Fletcher seems to do his own thing and just grapple and man mark anyway. I think me and Sargeant Muttley have been asking for better set play at both ends for 4 or 5 years now. Not saying i agree with it dunc (i dont) but didnt we bring it in early last season because we were being singled out for holding etc ?

Thought it was a fair game. Could have gone either way. We didn't play as well as we could but what can you do. It's what football forums are all about and more importantly, football.

I wonder who keeps the idea alive, that is the worrisome bit. Does Bowen say, one more week Mark! or is it Hughes being pigheaded like usual? That is the most fuckwittery decision in the EPL to figure out who honestly for the last few seasons goes, you know what it has failed every week and let us concede goals like a sieve but let's forget about it and focus on passing?

Okay, he missed the header... but Diouf should be played up front!!! He only got switched to his natural position towards the end of the 90 minutes, but he got in there, and on another day, he'd score!!! He is like Joselu. Gets into good positions but totally wasteful. He is not the answer but I don't know what is, Diouf had a great downward header brilliantly saved, then he missed a good oppertunity when he headed wide....there's nothing wrong with that, we've all seen top TOP players miss point blank chances!!! the point is, he gets into good positions, and he'll score as many as he misses....I'll take that, especially if he gets between 24 and 30 good chances throughout the season!!!

We were second best and deserved sweet FA. A very frustrating game . Some glorious chances missed at both ends. Second week running we have conceded from a corner so maybe the zonal marking needs to be looked at as it's not working. To me Allen is not strong enough and is being carried. Maybe move Zouma up to midfield if we are allowed to or Cameron when fit. Well and truly pissed off by that performance It was frustrating from the start. They could have had a player booked very early for a foul on Fletcher, and we had a great chance to catch them early doors but Pieters fluffed his through ball. It always seems to be the way when we play Newcastle! No excuses, though. Maybe we got a bit carried away?

We bossed the first 18 minutes of the game, but after they scored they really dominated the rest of the half, and we were lucky to only be one goal down at half time. The goal we gave away was really needless though as Mame made a terrible pass and then seemed to forget his man at the back post too. We looked sloppy at defensive set pieces most of the game, and of course we conceded in the end, an own goal by Wimmer by the way! Wimmer looked very vulnerable the whole game I must say, but also Indi looked uncomfortable at times! Who says we don't miss Shawcross after this afternoon's terrible performance!?

It was time to move on as their pace was on the wain. The only player we really miss is Arnie. What I would say is that it's early days and with the games gone we're in a better place than I expected to be at the start of the season. I genuinely believe that with games under their belt the best is yet to come from Jese, Choupa and Wimmer in particular. For me none of them are fully match fit yet.

Total inability to defend. Newcastle had 3/4 very good chances.
Conceeded in every match this season bar Arsenal where we had to rely on Jack keeping us in it.
We are will continue to be an average mid-table side until we learn how to defend properly.

He really does have to play Diouf up front especially if he continues to play one striker on his own My main problem with Hughes is that yet again he has brought in a striker and again lost faith in him.It really is not good enough
