That's shit. All the intensity against Man Utd and Arsenal and we play like that against Newcastle. Poor mentality

Wasteful from Shaq. He's always got a flash of brilliance in him, but fuck me he's frustrating. He's the only player who has turned up today. He's easily our most creative player, always trying to make something happen.....but still can be frustrating.

Wake up call.....you have to fight for the right to play your football. They wanted it more today and had more chances, but we still had enough ourselves late on to snatch a (fairly undeserved) point.
Immediate thoughts:
1. We miss Ryan.....a lot. 2. Wimmer is not yet up to speed after so long on the Spurs bench. Let's hope there is more to come as he settles in. 3. We have no proper central striker and both Jese and Choupo prefer attacking from the left. 4. Hughes has lost faith in Saido and it could be a long way back for him. 5. This is Shaq's season to shine. He is our main man after the Arnie sale and he could well be the difference between challenging for the top ten and a lower midtable finish.

Shame that our defensive organisation has again backfired spectacularly

Better side on the day won but still think we will have a good season Thing is Joe, we can't afford to throw away these kind of points if we want to have a good season. These are the sort of matches it'll be judged on. It's alright turning up against the big teams but if we don't fight against a team that's just been promoted then we should have a good look at ourselves.

Schoolboy stuff from Wimmer to gift their winner.

Super disappointing. Made a pretty average team look decent on the counter. Had chances to get something from the game yet we continue to lack that cutting, ruthless edge. Some very sub-par performances.
In the context of the season, it's still 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Progress is being made and, as long as we learn from these games early in the season (considering 5 of our starting XI today have only been here for a month at most), then there's still cause for optimism. This kind of inconsistency is the very reason we'll end up mid-table rather than pushing higher.
Disappointing yes. But I hope we can keep some perspective.

Losing that match instead of drawing with all those chances and stupid decisions doodling with the ball is the difference between middle to lower table and top 10.

Poor mentality So you thought we just had to turn up to win fuck me when are Stoke fans gonna realise every game is different, just wasn't our day today. We had enough chances to get something. We will win some lose some and draw some and finish mid table, what else do you expect?

Okay, he missed the header... but Diouf should be played up front!!! He only got switched to his natural position towards the end of the 90 minutes, but he got in there, and on another day, he'd score!!!

Poor throughout the side today. A little better second half and had chances to nick a point, but that would have been extremely harsh on Newcastle. Thought they were excellent overall and should have won it more comfortably. They out-worked and our-fought us all over the pitch.
No excuses, move on to the next one and put it behind us.

Why not play the full game like the last 10 minutes, they are not that good team to play against them with 5 defenders, and please Jese is a wing not a striker, Diouf is a striker not a wing back, changing players position to some thing worse doesnt make you a better coach.

The old concern of Hughes' ability to motivate the players comes to mind again as does Hughes' inability to organise his teams to defend set pieces. After such a good stsrt to the season, I feel a bit fed up with this defeat. Before the season began, I thought we would lose this match. However, after the last couple of games I was much more hopeful. I hate losing. Still not certain how this season will pan out. Never mind - this is Stoke isn't it.

Not worried just yet, we always play like this against some teams under Hughes. it's just Stoke, we can draw Man U one week, beat Arsenal another and then put in a shit performance against Newcastle
It's the inconsistency that really hurts us, expectations carried over from good performances and we still can't grind wins out against teams that we really should be beating
Yes Newcastle have some decent players and you wouldn't think so from today.. but not many of their players get in to our team do they?

Newcastle deserved the win but we too missed a couple of guilt-edge chances today. Have to improve defensively away from home. Cannot be so open.

We were second best and deserved sweet FA. A very frustrating game . Some glorious chances missed at both ends. Second week running we have conceded from a corner so maybe the zonal marking needs to be looked at as it's not working. To me Allen is not strong enough and is being carried. Maybe move Zouma up to midfield if we are allowed to or Cameron when fit. Well and truly pissed off by that performance

No excuses......We've been poor today all over the pitch. Hughes out brigade coming up soon. Too early to tell one way other the other if what Hughes has done will work or not, there's always going to be teething problems with a new formation.

What are the benefits of Zonal Marking for Stoke City? I struggle to find even one argument for it's use? Is it about the holding in the box? Because Fletcher seems to do his own thing and just grapple and man mark anyway.
I think me and Sargeant Muttley have been asking for better set play at both ends for 4 or 5 years now.
