Just driven over it between 16 and 17 and there's not a single car on the northbound section. The A34 is chocka going into Congleton. Thank the Lord I know all the back roads or I'd have been out all night trying to get back home.
This new safe motorway they've been creating for the last two years must have caused so many accidents.

This new safe motorway they've been creating for the last two years must have caused so many accidents. Serious crash apparently including corrosive liquid so closed pretty much from 16 to 18 meaning Sandbach, Congleton, Holmes Chapel, Knutsford etc were not moving at all and then a horse box over turned on the A556 meaning even more carnage on an already fooked stretch of road!

Sorry I meant 16 to 19, accident between 18 and 19 but it said on radio at about 5.30 that they had closed 16 Northbound because of that accident, presumably to try and ease things further down?

This new safe motorway they've been creating for the last two years must have caused so many accidents. This new safe motorway that creates an extra lane by utilising what was the hard shoulder, consequently if your car breaks down in future, unless you're lucky enough to be close to one of the refuge areas you may well find yourself stranded on the carriageway itself,as I saw some poor sod t'other night on the M5.

The roads in this country are a nightmare. Honestly though, until we a way of penalising more incidents of poor driving nothing will change. Even things like old people going 35mph on slip lanes then stopping are a recipe for disaster.

All the lanes around Knutsford were mental this evening and there were artics everywhere going down roads they really shouldn't be on. I got very lucky on my short stretch of the A34 from Siddington to Marton - a Stobart truck was limping along with what must have been miles of traffic behind. I managed to just get out in front of him and had a clear run for 3 miles before i get back on the back lanes through north rode.

What's the point of a smart motorway if artics are creating bottlenecks?

I can guarantee that everyday Radio 2's daytime traffic news mentions incidents between Stoke and Sandbach on the M6.

I never go near the m6 on a Friday its always a nightmare. But until the police and authorities wake up to the fact that it is not speed but bad driving that causes these accidents, nothing will change.

I was in Stafford when Radio Stoke announced the accident within a few short miniute of it happening.
Almost immediately traffic was streaming off the motorway, and I have been told that the N bound lane was at a standstill aprox25/30 miles south of the incident within miniutes .
The M6 has become the road to hell.

What's the point of a smart motorway if artics are creating bottlenecks? On dual carriageways there should be a hell of a lot more sections where lorries are restricted to the inside lane. I've lost count of the number of times a lorry has overtaken another, taken 5mins or so to do so, and in the meantime caused a huge queue of 20 or 30 cars that would be driving 70+ but are restricted to 59 or whatever the lorry is going. If you think about it, for that lorry driver to spend 5mins less on the road, he's caused all the cars behind to spend a combined 1hr+ more on the road. Now multiply that for all the times it happens across the country on a daily basis and it all adds up to the outrageous congestion problems we suffer with on our little island.

These guys make a living out of ignoring every common sense action on a road and no one gives a shit how many normal people die it seems as long as these cowboys can keep using the roads for their stupid antics. Supposed to be professional drivers but most wouldn't pass wind never mind a test.

The problem is, due to the nature of vehicle they drive, the few bad ones are exponentially more dangerous road users than a bad Nissan micra driver.

Yep, all plans to widen it were in full swing in 1995, land being compulsory purchased off the landowners next to it, designs and specs getting done, contractors to bid, then in 1997 when Bliar came to power he cancelled it, that and the the link from Jct19 to the M56 (which has just been finished and opened), diverting money to spend on his London lot, the fookin wanker.

My ex girlfriends dad was a truck driver that was 1974-1980 my wife's dad was a truck driver they were both abysmal drivers who should never have been allowed on a road never mind driving a truck. This small minority is rubbish it is the VAST majority of truck drivers that are idiots, the size of the vehicle has no bearing on driving up peoples arses because they want to maintain their speed, or overtaking at 1 mph faster hogging the middle lane casing absolute chaos. Like I said they should not be on the same road as car drivers especially novice car drivers. They live in a different world and use the size of the vehicle as an excuse for dangerous, bad driving on a daily basis and the road accident figures more than back up what I'm saying. Four lane Motorways two lanes for HGV two lanes for Cars and the accident figures would drop like a stone. So HGV lanes like bus lanes with no cars allowed and the same for the car lanes.

At the speed awareness course I went on there was a table of 5 HGV drivers and none of them had done anything wrong (in their opinion) strange that. They were God's gift to the road and all the problems were caused by everyone else. Work that one out. Offences in trucks and not their private motors.

It added about 11 miles but was way quicker even on Friday afternoon. This was 14 years ago!

Tried that way myself a few times travelling up from Pompey but I tried all sorts of routes to be honest, that M5/M6 junction was just a total nightmare every Friday. The Highways Agency's finest moment for me came a couple of years ago when we'd set off from Cambs late one Friday evening to avoid the traffic only to find they'd shut the M1 totally and had masses of roadworks on the M6, ridiculous 'planning'.

There's loads of new student accommodation being built in and around Plymouth. Seems every new development is student accom. The tallest building south of Bristol on North Cross by the station is such. Glad my two went through uni when it was £1000 a year as it must be a real crippler now.
