We seem to be constantly on the wrong side of these deals though Paul, don't we? Birmingham were absolutely desperate for cash when they sold us Butland. Totally different circumstances to Imbula I know but they managed to get a record for a teenage goalkeeper with a 20% sell on clause on top. We're just not very good at this game and either the recruitment dept. or Scholes have to start taking their share of the responsibility that they dodged under the last manager and continue to dodge know. It never seems to be their fault, yet it constantly happens. The same mistakes. The same situations. I just don't buy it. Haven't done for a while. The shit they get away is astounding. Look at the Indi business. There's a deal in place. It's down to the player. Actually there never was. And if that's what has happened, we've been had over a barrel again and been absolutely shafted. Whats happened with Indi have I missed something?

Maybe the answer to all these problems is to let the manager go and get someone in that can manage the Imbula's and the Bojan's whilst getting the best out of them, just a thought like.

Over 8.3 Million loss.... Nice negotiating Mr Scholes Blame the man who signed him in the first place, I have no confidence in Scholes and Co. but if he can offload and it is a big if for £10m it would be a good effort, he is a big fat albatross around Hughes's neck he should be kissing their arses if they get him out of the mess he has created. That said he should be made to pay the shortfall back out of his salary. FFS grow up!

Its definitely him thats changed, he's gone into his shell massively. I just don't think he's got the balls to play those type of players anymore.

He's played for us since then which kind of rules that theory out. Just repeating what I was told. I know he's played briefly since but the pair had a bust up at half time in the Wolves game. I heard the same. There were massive rows with Imbula and Bojan at half time in the Wolves game. We know whats happened since.

Both Imbula and Bojan who had not impressed at all up to that point were given an opportunity in the Wolves game but both failed to turn up mentally. I dont think either can have much complaint. With Imbula I still think there could be a player in there somewhere but he has now flopped at two clubs and I think it probably comes down to attitude and desire. With Bojan I would like to think there is some way back but fear that the injury has effectively done for him at this level.

Leave it and get a manager in that can coach him defensivley. I really don't think we are over a barrel here. The fact that feckin Roma are interested is enough. 10m and a sell on is good business for all concerned. Getting Imbula coached defensively is like saying, get a new manager in to motivate Kenwyne Jones. Some players just don't have it in them and Imbula is one of them. It's a bollock dropped all round, but one we need to move on from and recoup what we can. I agree but he must have showed it at Marseilles and there's that nagging feeling that the bar stool will do well at Roma. He doesn't know where to stand on a pitch when we haven't got the ball but he can't have got away with that to this point can he? (That's said in a desperate whiny tone bemoaning him).

How is Imbula not giving a shit about playing for stoke and not being prepared to put a shift in Hughes fault? Hughes has done himself no favours lately but the flop that is Imbula is down to one person......Imbula himself. Porto were not daft. They saw us coming too..... Unfortunately so did WBA , Deportivo , Some 3rd division Danish team , Porto , looks like Highes thinks an Egyptian tea did as well , so did Sevilla Pogba;s agent who has never picked a ball got 6 x what we got for one of the best midfielders in europe . Only one departure will really make a difference to Stoke city this year its 4 years over due and its the commercial guy overpaying , underselling , underperforming on commercial income , offering shit match day experience and utterly and totally invisible.

I feel reassured about this now after firing off a few quick texts with Tony Scholes. He tells me the money generated will be spent on some top British talent with Lee Cattermole being the first player to hobble through the door in July. We've also been in contact with John Ruddy as we feel confident he could challenge Lee Grant WHEN Butland leaves.. exciting times.

Well done Sparky!!! you give Ireland a contract, You know.. the player who never made the bench when fit.. keep on persisting with old.. slow midfielders with no creativity & let potential stars like Imbula / Bojan go. Embarrassingly bad man management. Numerous players have come out and said what a talent this lad is Good luck wherever the fuck you end up Gianelli! I'll keep an eye out for him and in a weird way hope a proper manager can get the best out of him and show Hughes and co what a mess they made of his Stoke career. Who's career is Sparky aiming to ruin next? Ramadans? What a load of shit. I'm in the Hughes out camp but to suggest that Mark Hughes has ruined Imbulas career is utter bollocks of the highest order. That lazy fucker has had plenty of opportunities to show us he wants to be here and play for us but he's squandered pretty much every one bar a few performances. All Imbula's issues are down to one man and one man only and he needs to look in the mirror for that bloke to blame. Of all the sticks that there is to beat Hughes with, Imbula's lack of commitment to the Stoke City cause isn't one of them.

If we can get 10m for him and 5m for Bojan and their big money long-term contracts off our books, to free up space for players Hughes will play, then we will have done very well. Let's hope his summer defensive midfielder signing is the right one this time. Hughes cannot afford anothef major transfer cock up. with the tax benefits, we probably end up even or close to so not a disaster. It feels to me that Imbula was a punt worth taking. We have money but so do all the teams around us and so competition for players is tough, £12m for Joe Allen who is a steady player at this level no more, potentially £20m for Sakho from Liverpool. We will always be gambling if we want better technical players hence Shaqiri, Arnie, Bojan were all gambles and Imbula too. Some work and some don't but that is the space we find ourselves in and the hope is we find a Kante or similar once in a while, as we have with Butland for example

29, not quite enough experience to be a starter under Hughes but enough to put him into contention. He can sit on the bench and learn from Whelan until he reaches 31,32.

Carto and Scholes have to take some blame though surely mate? Hughes admitted that he liked the look of Imbula in a pre season friendly and as someone has mentioned above, the subsequent scouting by Cartwright and the deal done by Scholes were negligent.

I don't want to start an argument because I don't have the energy but this "plenty of opportunities" argument is bollocks imo. He's had far less opportunities than Adam and Whelan and they've been awful for quite some time (barring the odd "steady" game). The lad has barely had a kick since January. Afellay was in the same boat as well until getting injured again, signs a new contract and mysteriously didn't get a kick.. now, where have we seen that before?

A character / attitude problem like Imbula's would be spotted by most, even semi-competent recruitment people. Is anyone asking why it wasn't noticed by Stoke?

Hughes said at the time we had done all the necessary due diligence and understood why his move to Porto didn't work out. Looks like we didn't do a good job of it unfortunately.

There is some massive bollocks being spouted on here insinuating a player reaches 30 he is past it, Juventus have reached the Champions League Final last night with a average age of 30.5 and 7 players 30 + in the starting line up. The best thing is we will have to wait until the end of the season and see which way Coates views the situation personally I think Imbula will go on to be one hell of a player whether it's in this country is another matter. The hardest thing for the teams outside the top 6 is keeping a 25 man squad happy when the top teams have extra Euro games to satisfy their fringe players unlike the rest, the one thing that looks like from the outside is there is friction within the club which will get sorted one way or the other in mid season.

You can't get away with a player who won't battle in a deep lying central midfield position in England. I'm not prone to violence but I could gladly have punched his face in upon seeing his disgraceful attitude and lack of team spirit the last time he came on as a sub vs Man City. I don't think I've ever seen a player give quite such a couldn't care less performance it made my blood boil. Exactly.

To be fair, Hughes is not the first manager to struggle to get the best out of Bojan. In fact almost all of Bojan's previous managers had the same problem, which is how he came to join us in the first place! As for Imbula , after a promising start he has just given the impression that he doesn't want to be here and it's best that we get rid. I think he came here expecting to play every week and as soon as he got dropped he effectively gave up.

Imbula had plenty of chances last season and he started this season as first choice and he was catastrophically shit for the majority of games he played, and his few and far between cameos just rammed home the fact that this player never wanted to be here from day one. As far as less opportunities than Whelan is concerned then that's not a comparison, as Imbula has never shown the defensive capabilities to be a Whelan replacement. Should he have had more game time from the bench, you could argue that he should and Affelays continued absence has got me scratching my head also, but the post I replied to was insinuating that Hughes was wrecking Imbula's career which is absolute rubbish in my opinion.

Even as a Hughes fan, the trend is worrying though. There seems to be a disconnect somewhere between how these players look on Cartwright's analytics print-outs and how they're showing up on grass in Stoke under the manager. I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt with Ramadan, but things have taken a decidedly weird turn there. And the apparently casual way we've chucked out £10m+ (+ hefty wages) on Wolly and Joselu, 2 players who seem particularly ill-suited to the Premier League, is a bit alarming. The decision to authorise a long-term £70k-a-week deal for Bojan in Feb 2016 is looking more and more bizarre, his mis-use of Diouf is unfathomable, and the sudden decision to turn Allen into a No.10 is peculiar. I'm sure there are things we'll never know that could explain some or all of these odd events, but put them together and it's all a bit concerning. There's certainly a lot of eggs in the Berahino basket at the moment

I remember the good old days of managers scouting players, and making their own minds up on stuff like, oh, I dunno, will he fit my system? Do I actually need him? Can I buy two players for the cost of one, and benefit the squad? Can I coach into him, the stuff that he's missing? Old-fashioned I know.

When Imbula has gone some money has to be spent on a midfielder who can 1) beat a man 2) pass the ball FORWARD accurately. I' m not that bothered about his ability to track back as I want to see some creativity.Allen & Cameron can run around as they can't pass. I don't think MH has any intention of giving Shaq a go in the no.10 role and he has clearly decided that Bojan is not the answer- but a midfield of Whelan, Cameron & Allen has as much creativity and imagination as a gravity crocodile (i.e. It's downhill all the way ( copyright Benji).

I really hope this happens, Imbula was as underwhelming and lazy off the ball as they come. For the amount of money we paid for him we could've held a year long competition in Liga MX for SCFC's next midfielder sponsored by Pizza Hut. Which sadly probably would've returned a better player.
