Even as a Hughes fan, the trend is worrying though. There seems to be a disconnect somewhere between how these players look on Cartwright's analytics print-outs and how they're showing up on grass in Stoke under the manager. I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt with Ramadan, but things have taken a decidedly weird turn there. And the apparently casual way we've chucked out £10m+ (+ hefty wages) on Wolly and Joselu, 2 players who seem particularly ill-suited to the Premier League, is a bit alarming. The decision to authorise a long-term £70k-a-week deal for Bojan in Feb 2016 is looking more and more bizarre, his mis-use of Diouf is unfathomable, and the sudden decision to turn Allen into a No.10 is peculiar. I'm sure there are things we'll never know that could explain some or all of these odd events, but put them together and it's all a bit concerning. There's certainly a lot of eggs in the Berahino basket at the moment And that's without mentioning Bony. Nobody has come up with a credible theory to explain Hughes' weird behavior. The most likely suggestion so far is "his brain has turned to scrambled egg" its not something I've heard of happening before but its the most plausable theory presented yet.

Both Imbula and Bojan who had not impressed at all up to that point were given an opportunity in the Wolves game but both failed to turn up mentally. I dont think either can have much complaint. With Imbula I still think there could be a player in there somewhere but he has now flopped at two clubs and I think it probably comes down to attitude and desire. With Bojan I would like to think there is some way back but fear that the injury has effectively done for him at this level. I'm not convinced about the Bojan injury to be honest. He seems to have become a bit of a journeyman (3 clubs in 3 seasons before us). Imbula likewise didn't make any kind of impression at his previous club. Saying that I'd take the 10m because seeing imbula constantly post photos of himself in Stoke gear whilst doing fuck all to actually get into the side really pisses me off.

There is no reason Hughes would not want to play his biggest signing at the club so far. If Imbula was smashing his training he would at least be making the bench. Even if we go with the theory that there was a bust up between Imbula and the manager at the Wolves game, I cannot believe Hughes would not play him out of spite. Imbula not working out is a blot on Hughes's time at SCFC, so he has every reason to want Imbula to turn it around.

Why are we talking about putting youth in the squad but handing out extensions to the pensioners? It's all up in the air.

But thinking logically, why would Hughes not play Imbula if he was doing well in training. Imbula being a success is within Hughes's best interests, the same as Ramadan.

I really think we'll regret this. He's an outstanding talent and to be totally frank, it reflects very poorly on a coaching team that cannot motivate, coach or mould him into a Premier League team. Yes, there is always stuff to leave on the player in terms of self motivation and suchlike but it seems we've been far to quick to chuck an 18M player onto the scrapheap. Bear in mind this is the same managerial team that has not played a striker they were prepared to pay upwards of 7M for in his proper position for nigh on a year. Shocking management. And we lob 6m player like Jos on the scrapheap. Awful managerment.

Anyone who tracks my posts will know I am not a big Hughes fan but please can we stop with this "there is a good player in there" bullshit! Imbula has a shit attitude and is not good enough. Bojan is not good enough. He could have been but didn't have the right attitude to succeed. It's funny how both of these guys spend a great deal of time showing everyone on social media how hard they are working! Why do they need to do that. Probably cos it's BS and they are cheating a living. Loads of talent + bad attitude = fail. Get rid of them and bring in some better players. If we could get $15m for the pair of them that would be daylight robbery in my book!

10M Ill fly him there myself.
Good riddance to a player with the mental faculties of a goldfish when on the pitch.
It doesnt excuse Hughes who obviously signed him after the Porto friendly. But getting him off the wagebook will help greatly with the summer clear-out.
But an extension to Stephen Ireland? Are we trying to field a team of over 30's next season?

Was anyone at the famous 'Porto friendly'?!
There must be a short match report somewhere, just wondering if Imbula was singled out for special mention

Maybe the answer to all these problems is to let the manager go and get someone in that can manage the Imbula's and the Bojan's whilst getting the best out of them, just a thought like. Carto and Scholes have to take some blame though surely mate? Hughes admitted that he liked the look of Imbula in a pre season friendly and as someone has mentioned above, the subsequent scouting by Cartwright and the deal done by Scholes were negligent. Yes they do momo but surely to god Hughes has the last say on transfers?

The Porto friendly was streamed in full. I watched it and did find myself googling info about Imbula long before the end as he looked such a beast, like the bastard child of Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure!
Clearly he fooled others too!

There must be a short match report somewhere, just wondering if Imbula was singled out for special mention Ive watched that friendly a few times since because I kept it on the Tivo box and he and Bruno both stood out for Porto but like I've said before they ran rings round us for ages in that game against a Stoke side that looked massively undercooked at that stage of our pre season. Then again we've looked the same most pre seasons with Hughes in charge so nothing different there. Surely he never signed him just on the evidence of that game though😮

The rumour is there was a massive row between the player and Hughes at half time in the Wolves cup game. As long as Hughes remains he will never play for us again I'm afraid. He's lucky I wasn't in the changing room at half time in that game. I've put more effort into drinking a cup of tea than he showed in 45 minutes.

This would be a fantastic deal for us if we can get that much money for him. We need to sign athletes who are prepared to work hard to take over our aging squad.

Shocking in other games, the problem being when the other team press up and are physical. He will look brilliant in the italian or french leagues - so as long as we include add-ons it is the right deal for us

You can guarantee that IF he goes....Stoke will fail to put a 25% sell on clause in there, as per N'Zonzi.
Simple. We always claim other teams are hard to deal with, when in all reality a glance in the mirror might suggest we are the actual culprits & in fact our transfer team is absolutely diabolical

I was talking the other day to a guy that knows Sidibe really well, Mama reckons that Imbula is a class above the players we already have, the players love him and he's brilliant with the ball. Such a shame if what I got told is true, as that's the kind of player that will take us forward and being crying out for. Mamas mrs makes great cakes 😀

I think for a long time now Hughes has thought that if he can get a combined £18 million fee for Imbula and Bojan, then that will get him off the hook for the Imbula signing. And if truth be told, it probably will. If that were the case he would have sold Bojan for the 7/8 million that Middlesbrough were reportedly offering at the time. On the scheme of things losing money on a player like Imbula, although disappointing is not uncommon. The real reason people are getting their knickers in a twist is most of them had no fucking clue who he was or what kind of player he was but wrongly assumed on arrival he was our new 'Vieira' and now it hasn't worked out it's breakdown time. Let Coatesy worry about the money, it's not like ticket sales paid for him in the first place is it? H

If someone came in for Butland today we could start asking silly money with add-ons for League championship or Champions League wins. We can do that because we have no desire or need to sell and Butland would be a much sought after commodity. The players we've sold aren't or weren't in that bracket. Bego was wanted as second choice or competition for first choice at best, and N'Zonzi wasn't particularly sought after either. In both cases we were selling to avoid getting nowt a year later. In most cases there's one team more able to call the shots. I'm assuming we want Imbula and his massive wages off the books. We can put a sell on clause in, but then we'll have to take a hit on the initial fee. Would you want to do that given that he's flopped here and at his last club. We're not really arguing the toss with Roma from a position of strength. Just damage limitation.
