Apart from the fact that Roma would laugh us out of the room. We're in a very weak position, they know it and we know it. "Yeah okay Stoke we'll give you a sell on clause but if you want one we're only going to give you £5 mil for him now, which way do you want it ... take it or leave it?" We seem to be constantly on the wrong side of these deals though Paul, don't we? Birmingham were absolutely desperate for cash when they sold us Butland. Totally different circumstances to Imbula I know but they managed to get a record for a teenage goalkeeper with a 20% sell on clause on top. We're just not very good at this game and either the recruitment dept. or Scholes have to start taking their share of the responsibility that they dodged under the last manager and continue to dodge know. Well yeah, that's the point I'm making. Imbula wasn't worth anything like £18 million when the club we bought him off wanted rid after only six months ... but we still paid it. I suspect Roma will be just a tad more canny than us when it comes to negotiations.

It never seems to be their fault, yet it constantly happens. The same mistakes. The same situations. I just don't buy it. Haven't done for a while. The shit they get away is astounding. Look at the Indi business. There's a deal in place. It's down to the player. Actually there never was. And if that's what has happened, we've been had over a barrel again and been absolutely shafted.

The rumour is there was a massive row between the player and Hughes at half time in the Wolves cup game. As long as Hughes remains he will never play for us again I'm afraid. I wouldn't be surprised. Heard he isn't the only one Hughes has had words with as well.

Roma think Imbula is worth as much as £18? Crikey! Somebody's been on the bongo juice! Ignorant racist shit

Player power is a cancer. Once these arseholes undermine the manager, who it might be worth mentioning signed them and gave them a handsome wage thus making them very wealthy young men - then we are in a huge downward special. Cancers need cutting out with a sharp knife.

I'd much rather see Hughes go.
Would be a shame to see Imbula leave I think he'll end up being a great signing for whoever gets him next.

Overpaying is triple jeopardy because that player takes up a place in the 25-man squad and denies an opportunity for a better player. "Three strikes and you're out" to borrow a phrase from baseball.

If we can get 10m for him and 5m for Bojan and their big money long-term contracts off our books, to free up space for players Hughes will play, then we will have done very well.
Let's hope his summer defensive midfielder signing is the right one this time. Hughes cannot afford anothef major transfer cock up.

How is Imbula not giving a shit about playing for stoke and not being prepared to put a shift in Hughes fault? Hughes has done himself no favours lately but the flop that is Imbula is down to one person......Imbula himself.
Porto were not daft. They saw us coming too.....

15m for him and Bojan would be decent business and might just get the manager out of a pickle.

It was common knowledge that Imbula had been a flop everywhere he'd been because he can't defend, he doesn't track back and he is very, very one footed. Stoke's transfer team was sold a pig in a poke, presumably because they thought they knew better than everyone before them and turn Imbula around.

Over inflated prices for any player coming to the premier league he's probably only worth 6 million we took a gamble and lost , now arnie on the other hand how much would we get for him

Leave it and get a manager in that can coach him defensivley. I really don't think we are over a barrel here. The fact that feckin Roma are interested is enough. 10m and a sell on is good business for all concerned. Getting Imbula coached defensively is like saying, get a new manager in to motivate Kenwyne Jones. Some players just don't have it in them and Imbula is one of them. It's a bollock dropped all round, but one we need to move on from and recoup what we can.

If Coates can't see that the whole Imbula fiasco is down to the ineptitude of the transfer team then the old bugger needs to consider what he is doing at the club himself. Manager likes the look of a player based on pre-season friendly... Scouting team fail to spot glaring weaknesses in his game... Chief Exec negotiates way over the odds transfer fee... What a balls up.

I was talking the other day to a guy that knows Sidibe really well, Mama reckons that Imbula is a class above the players we already have, the players love him and he's brilliant with the ball.
Such a shame if what I got told is true, as that's the kind of player that will take us forward and being crying out for.

Over 8.3 Million loss.... Nice negotiating Mr Scholes This plus around £5m in wages if he's stealing £70k a week. He's played 28 games which equates to just under £0.5m per game. That's assuming we get the reported £10m for him. That transcends the Palacios fiasco by some

I really think we'll regret this. He's an outstanding talent and to be totally frank, it reflects very poorly on a coaching team that cannot motivate, coach or mould him into a Premier League team. Yes, there is always stuff to leave on the player in terms of self motivation and suchlike but it seems we've been far to quick to chuck an 18M player onto the scrapheap.
Bear in mind this is the same managerial team that has not played a striker they were prepared to pay upwards of 7M for in his proper position for nigh on a year.
Shocking management.

I think I might have to admit defeat in my campaign to get Imbula back in the team. Of course Sparky, our midfield is currently spectacularly amazing that he doesn't deserve another chance, isn't it?.. what a complete mess you've made.

Imbula has shown in 3 or 4 games what a superb player he could be. Then awful in other games. Not entirely the managers fault but there must be concerns about the ability of the management team to get the best out of talented players THEY have signed.

Such a shame if what I got told is true, as that's the kind of player that will take us forward and being crying out for. I don't buy into this. He can be brilliant with the ball but his decision making is suspect and, as often as not, he is shocking when he doesn't have the ball. And as for his relationship with the players, they are not stupid and, rightly, the senior players often gave him a bollocking for his mistakes when he or the team are defending. £18 million for a player who can only be trusted to guard the post when we are defending corners isn't good business in my book. If the rest of his play was as good as his play when he is surging forward he'd be first name on the team sheet - but, sadly, it isn't.

And the alternatives who get picked ahead of him don't have any negative attributes do they?!.. We're muddling through with a midfield that is the definition of 'bang average' and that's on a good day.

I think the coaching staff are failing dramatically to be fair with the team as a whole.

You can't get away with a player who won't battle in a deep lying central midfield position in England. I'm not prone to violence but I could gladly have punched his face in upon seeing his disgraceful attitude and lack of team spirit the last time he came on as a sub vs Man City. I don't think I've ever seen a player give quite such a couldn't care less performance it made my blood boil.
