Yeah, we should be able to flog a modern-day Stoke hero to a newly-promoted team and replace him instantly with someone better. I mean, just look how easy it was the last time we sold a central defender or our best midfielder.

Footballers are the same as any other asset there's a good time to let go of them. Football Manager 2017 isn't real life mate. Wouldn't know don't play it.

Fuck me gently! People would let Ryan go? You're all fucking nuts. Here endeth my input into the thread! You really couldn't make it up could you? You're not slow to give us your opinion on players Dave, so how would you assess Ryan's form this season and all-round ability? I've struggled in forming my own opinion because Ryan is part of the fabric of the Club and has been and still is a great servant. I'm not sure what's happened to him but he's not at the standard he used to be and it's affected almost every aspect of his game. I'm guessing you disagree but, I'm interested to know what you think.

To me, Ryan's become more vulnerable because he isn't getting the protection he once was. For years we were incredibly defensive, this coincided with Ryan's best form. Now, we're far more open, with far more attacking license and as a result, Ryan is struggling.

Not at his imperious and consistent best yet still our best defender by some distance is how I would describe him. The criticism of him is shockingly poor form from a supporter base that really should know better in my opinion.

Ryan has been a liability for months.
Doesn't make him any less a legend, but he's just not the same player he once was.

His problem is the Manager. He's the same as us, in that he doesn't know what the Manager expects & how to get it. He knew exactly what Pulis asked of him & the team. Therein, in my opinion, lies the problem. Plus the use of this abominable zonal system that he has to cope with. I've said in an earlier post that in my opinion he shouldn't be the captain, as he isn't strong enough. At the moment he's got enough on his plate sorting his own game out. We haven't got anyone in the club who I would say is captain material. Although I don't like it much, but in the short term I'd give it to Butland. He's a bit young for that responsibility, but at least he has the guts to say it how it is.

This is the unfortunate truth and the sooner people (particularly at the club), the better. As much of a service as he's given to the club, the injury has halved his mobility. And it's a moot point but for someone thats held with such high regard, I've never felt like he's got a good relationship with fans either. Blokes a complete charisma vacuum.

He's exactly the same player, just in a completely different team.

Hughes has brought about uncertainty, disunity and general confusion and the team are not acting as one nor understanding fully - therefore confidence and morale is low....
Under the right and consistent management Ryan would flourish yet again.......IMHO

If Rafa Benitez one of the top 10 defensive coaches on the planet wants him , he is far from finished .

Skipper and 10 years served at the club. Yet we haven't broached the subject of a new contract? Sorry but something is off in my opinion. Either he or Stoke aren't happy.
If nothing else it is piss poor asset management by the club.

I find it strange we've not talked about another contract with him with only a year left🤔 He didn't waste any time in giving a new contract to Glen Johnson who is frankly half the player Ryan is even after his injury, he will most likely go out and sign another waste of space to replace him.

Totally agree,it beggars belief infact Just supposing there's no real guarantee of a full recovery from a back op and rather than renegotiating the top earners contract in the midst of such uncertainty we've seen out it pans out. Given there's a year left. I'm sure Ryan appreciates the care he's had from Stoke during this process, they're together everyday, but won't be disclosing informal chats. It doesn't necessarily have to mean that there's trouble at the mill.
