Or could it be that Shawcross is aware of an imminent replacement coming in?Hasn't Hughes been trying to sign Michael Keane for the last three transfer windows?

Some on here would actually deserve this but from the clubs view this is a deal we should getdone before the season ends to stop the dangerous circle of speculation ,Benitez spent some time watching helping the defence in a previous life and some of our major players would be seriously unsettled , boo boys persist at your peril .

I hope Ryan doesnt leave. We cant afford to lose players like Ryan as we havent signed Bruno yet we could lose our defences foundation if we let him go and then we will crumble. I remember Ryan once saying he would only leave stoke for Man U if they ever came back in for him. So we will have see what happens. We need to sign Bruno ASAP in the event we do lose Ryan

What about this theory? Ryan is fed up with all the chopping and changing and the lack of time spent on the defence, so this is a 'Hughes goes or I go' warning?

Confirm Bruno's permanent deal and then let Ryan go. Even with rose-tinted glasses it's clear he's not been the same son nice his back injury... both from a performance and confidence perspective. I hate to say it, but Ryan going would signal a longer-term view from Coates and Hughes

Ryan isn't going to move from Nantwich Ryans missus would be very unhappy about moving. She is part of the 'Nantwich Set' & the children are settled at local schools. It's going to take a lot of cash to tempt the whole family away from the area.

I hate to say it, but Ryan going would signal a longer-term view from Coates and Hughes Appreciate it is all about opinions, but absolutely disagree. It is typical of the bash the old guard that appears on here, but seldom do I hear it in conversations around the ground, pubs etc. Ryan has had a few poor games, but overall his performances have been solid. I fully agree with the need to sign up Bruno, but he should not avoid critisism, in many away games he has gone missing, but let's pin it all on Ryan. Another example, SJW Camio yesterday was superb, if that had of been Ramadam, there would have been a jizz fest on here, ( and no, I am not saying SJW should be a regular starter). We need Ryan to stay, and Bruno to sign, and then get some fullbacks and a top quality DM in my opinion

Bruno is not going to sign, so washing our hands of our captain and mainstay of the back four for ten years would be suicide if that happened i would fear for us next season. Swasea thought they could move on by cashing in on ashley williams , hiws thay working out for them?

It would be nice to get a young solid, versatile, quick replacement who can actually pass a ball forward and find a stoke player. One who can score the odd goal in set pieces rather than let opposite CB score. Get a good price and let him go. We need a captain who can read the game and sort his team mates out when they are fancying around.

I can see him being interested in a move. Hes been a bit typecast at Stoke ever since the Ramsey incident and this will give him a chance at a higher profile club and also wont do his England chances any harm.
Plus do we really think Hughes is going to sign the next Vincent Kompany to replace Ryan?
This will be very bad news for Stoke City in the Premier league if he leaves.

Southgate isn't anymore interested in Ryan than the previous managers, that's not an issue now.

Ryan is the heartbeat of the club. The only person more important than him is Peter Coates. Yes, there have been games where Bruno has been better than him, such as against Hull (though this was largely because Ryan spent an hour effectively playing right back in the ridiculous formation Hughes started with) but the week before against Liverpool Ryan was better than a rather shaky Bruno.

Let's let common sense prevail. Newcastle represent a club who might well get relegated again next season. Why would Ryan risk that when he is at an established club, is club captain and adored (by other than a few idiots) at Stoke. We have shown that we can compete with the likes of Everton to keep hold of Arnie and yes, Ryan wants a very good contract at this time of his career so good luck to him for getting the best he can from us at this point. He has earned it. Ryan is going nowhere, so long as we show our desire to want him here.
