I guessed that Jim . He'd had a toothache as well And a runny nose apparently . His absence seems to be growing in importance with each game as far as some people are concerned. I like Geoff but he's not the Messiah. He's not even just a naughty boy either!

Missed 11 league games last season.
Already missed 12 this season.
I realise that after a defeat every players gets both barrels on here, but can we afford to pay £70k-a-week to someone who misses a third of every season and is extremely inconsistent when he does play?
I'd be looking to move him on in the summer long with Johnson and Adam (and ,with a heavy heart, Bojan and Imbula). The wage savings there would be frightening.

some vale fans on the wind up tonight
yep, lets get rid of Shaqiri, he only created 48+ goal scoring chances last season despite missing 11 games
we need him more than ever. Hughe has to balance the wings and get chances created for Saido

when's the last time we as a team played well?
we haven't as Hughes is fucking around doing his square pegs round holes routine
when we do play well as team, it's invariably with Shaq in the first 11
i do place some blame on the fitness regime (or incorrect aspects of it) in getting him on the pitch
he creates and stretches defences far more than people reliae
we want saido to score?well we need shaq and on the pitch to do it (seeing as we got rid of our only natural number 10)

Thought he had been passed fit for today? Bowen said he completed a few sessions in Dubai, but "we sensed from his output in training he wasn't at full speed" - and he told Hughes yesterday he was still feeling his calf.

I'd take it to a different level and cast a bit of doubt on his commitment. I sensed something after the recent Manchester United game, but in a positive way. I thought his performance with the ball was excellent but without the ball in that game I thought he took his game to a new level. Never seen him so committed and so hard working. Unless my eyes mistook me, I saw him crashing in with a few tackles also. After the match it got me wondering why we don't see that side of him as often as we do. Then it sunk in. I remembered his last outstanding display - Manchester City at home the previous season.

An expensive show pony who only plays well against poor opposition. Ramadan has done more in the last 2 matches than Shaqiri has done all season. £10 million plus in summer and its a deal

Its a funny world where the player getting flak for a 4-0 rout is one that was injured and didn't play. Blokes a great player, creates more chances for us than most. For me his absence was part of the reason we were so awful at the start of the season

Except for one small problem : their replacements will command the same or better wages, at least they will if they are any good.

He always seems to play well for Switzerland? Often because he's playing against lesser quality opposition. Shaqiri has scored some spectacular goals in international competition that have been widely broadcast. However, he is only averaging 6-7 goals a season in all competitions.
