The obvious short term answer seems to be a good 2 or 3 months out of the team, similar to what he did with Bojan.Observe and learn and try to get to grips with what's expected of him.We have enough midfield players (injuries permitting)to get away with it.
There's clearly a player there, most folk were salivating over his performance at Chelsea,me included !
Relatively speaking it's still early days for him in this league.Wenger, cock that he is ,used to say some foreign players could take one or two seasons to really get used to playing in the EPL.

Sometimes I am ashamed to sit next to so called fellow supporters who supposed to support Stoke, this thread is everything I hate about Stoke at the moment, imbula is class, if you guys can't see that this you no nothing about football. A couple of wins and you'll all be aboard the train again Hudson/Greenhoff and Mahoney that's class.Kav was better than Imbula. Ebola is better than Imbula. At least you get a few runs out of Ebola.

What a ridiculous thread. Why is Imbula getting all this abuse he's one of our better players that's for sure. Because he's not got the "DNA" has he. If he run around doing fuck all then he'd be a bonafide legend in the eyes of some supporters. Or break into a jog looking really concerned when the oppostion has cut through you, yet again; and escaping vitriol match after match.

Yes Imbula could cost Hughes his job.
But that will be Hughes's fault not Giannelli's.
If Hughes continues to attempt to shoe horn him into the team to the detriment of tactics and formation because he's become blinkered by the fee he paid for him, then yes, it might ultimately cost him his job.
Imho the single most effective thing Hughes could do to alter our current situation, would be to drop Imbula, get Bojan in behind Bony and revert to his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.
The inclusion of Imbula is having a (detrimental) knock-on effect throughout the team and he needs a period of time on the bench to get to grips with what's required of him, so that ultimately the excellent player that we all know is in there somewhere can finally come to the fore.

His lack of appetite to fight for the team that worries me most, it will not matter a jot if he is the most skilful player on our books if he does not have the stomach for the fight he will not succeed, I agree it is not the players fault the evidence was already there when Hughes signed him from Porto.

Surprising what good man management can achieve, take a look at what a fairly average Leicester side achieved last season under an astute manager who get's the best out of a team as a working unit.

Honest question: Is Imbula really that bad or is Hughes's failure to get a Whelan upgrade as big a problem?
What happened to that Badu link? We looked at Saivet last season as well. Both are decent and younger/quicker than Glenn. We should be looking 3-4 years ahead. As soon as I heard Whelan had got the contract extension it was inevitable he'd be in every week!
This despite Chief, Spence and others saying that a new CDM was needed. It's happened with Crouch and Walters before;they should have been replaced too, like Bayern said.
I take on board valid criticisms of Imbula, but I think he's something of a scapegoat for another piss poor window in terms of buying players to fit your style by the management.

The injury appears to have miraculously healed itself since he was loaned to Leicester and has never reappeared since , bullshit excuse as was the need for a ball playing CB to replace him, especially as his replacement has now been fucked off and replaced with a CB with attributes similar to Huth's.

I think we may see players giving 100% on Sunday and probably some major changes.

Oh undoubtedly the majority of the problem falls at the feet of Hughes.
If he was going to drop north of £30 million on two midifielders this year, then it should have been spent on a CDM to replace Whelan and on a player to replace N'Zonzi.
But what he's done, is spent it on two players to play in N'Zonzi's position and as a result, he's having to fudge his tactics and formation to fit both players into the team, whilst at the same time being forced to continue with an awfully out of form Glenn Whelan.
We are a side completely devoid of pace and have watched Shaqiri struggle with fitness pretty much since he's been here, why on earth there wasn't even a whisper of us attempting to sign a right winger with genuine pace this summer, really is one of the biggest mystery's of the transfer window ... we'll inevitably see a lot of Walters and Diouf out there as a result, at least until January.
Hughes has had an absolute shocker with his approach to transfers in 2016 and it is directly having an effect on what is happening now ... and I haven't even mentioned the fullbacks.

Hence it was the replacement, not the sale.

This started with the acquisition of Wolfy and selling the player he replaced, last summers transfer window was an unmitigated disaster all but two of the players he signed have been not good enough and those two are now long term injury concerns, we needed a CB to complement or deputise for Ryan, we needed a winger to deputise/replace Shaq, a decent back up GK, a Whelan replacement and at least one full back LB, so he responds to these issues by buying another midfielder for £13m and still starts with Whelan FFS.
