long since given up actively following Englland mid 70-96 my era
Never understood why many England and football fans in general head off to foreign shores , then promptly set up camp in the nearest plastic Irish bar..(Genuine locals bar in Ireland totally different) .. In the 70-80s when fewer travelled , it tended to be for safety in numbers reasons, until people realised all it did was make yourself an easier target for the locals..and you always knew when they were on there way , even pre mobile phone days , by the change in atmosphere and the few locals present leaving the area - these days...I really don't get it
Stay out of the George & Dragon , shitty Murphies and the fan zones , etc with overpriced English or Irish Keg ale..and find a locals bar instead ..smaller group, locals less intimidated equals a much better time to be had by all
Same advice goes for our forthcoming trip to Hamburg

Blend in with the locals, find a nice bar and experience a bit of the city rather than sitting in Scruffy Murphy's getting sunburnt and pissed all day, My days of following England pretty much ended after getting deported from Brussels at Euro 2000 apart from a brief trip to Euro 2004 and a couple of trips to Eastern Europe, as I got older and had more to lose (job etc) just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time decided to knock it on the head. If you find the right area in the right city though it's still a superb way to see the world and get your football fix......

TalkSport interviewed a the pub owner where it kicked off (he happens to be English). According to him they were set upon by locals and fought back. Sounds about right. In that case well done

Here we go. People slating our own fans off yet again without knowing the full story. Funnily enough reports are constantly coming out that England fans were a credit to themselves and we're set upon by locals. But hey let's slag off our own.

yep clyde on SSN earlier they certainly looked like about 250 little choir boys, off to prayer, looking like butter would not melt in their mouths As opposed, to:- sunburned drunken 'thick a pigshit' scummers, with only drunken beer fuelled bravado, confrontation, alineation and trouble on their tiny little minds mind you, some people think Adolf Hitler was actually 'misunderstood'

Correct mate. And funnily enough it's always the same posters. It seems any football fans that have a beer and sing song are scum. All over the Internet tonight I've read that England fans were set upon by locals. But some ignore that

Not the team the supposed 'finest' of English football fans Pictures on SSN now showing them facing off the local law in Marseilles I thought we were over that - its the 21st century and they're supposed to be supporting a football team not just getting totally shitfaced and threatening everything including the local law JUST WHAT IS IT WITH THESE FUCKING IDIOTS ? They know the cameras are there - the media can hardly wait for the inevitable ruck and yet, they continue to bait and provoke anything or, anyone thats not English All they are doing is proving yet again we still are amongst the true football scum of Europe For me, you speak to them - try to reason and then you , give them one chance to calm down and or disperse then - you arrest the whole sorry lot - throw them in vans and ferry them all back here no going back to hotels etc etc even if their in their underpants - you pack em up and fucking deport them fucking arsewipes to a man ! Actually ferry them off to syria them tney really can have a go at isis! How long would they last? Ten maybe fifteen seconds? us or isis?

Enjoying the sun.....drinking their ale.....singing about German bombers and Irish terrorists.......of course they weren't looking for trouble.
Let's call a spade a spade.....the majority of those doing the fighting were looking for exactly that. Doesn't matter if the lads they fight are Russian, Irish, German or Muslim.
It's what they want.....a bit of a rumble and a couple of war wounds.....a few stories to bring home and a blast of testosterone.
Please.....let's not pretend they're anything but the twats they are. If you act like a twat you deserve to be called one and treated like one.

They must have been attacked again ......... oh dear!Like the french old bill havent got enough shit to deal with... Spot on. You'd think that they would all have enough respect to give it a miss when France is in a state of emergency and their forces have their hands full trying to keep these dickheads safe whilst they visit their country. Been to England games before and seen it all in the past,if it wasn't the local ultras they would end up trying it on with the police or each other eventually.

They do need passports but might need visas if we are daft enough to leave the EU and we probably are Visas my arse. There's loads of non EU countries I've visited & never ever needed a visa. Why would we need them to visit EU countries if Britain leaves the EU ? ..... Nice try at scaremongery though.

If you act like a twat you deserve to be called one and treated like one. Spot on. Some people put themselves in a situation looking for an excuse to kick off then use that excuse to justify their behaviour. I only did it in self defence m'lud. You're right about the testosterone rush - lets be honest some of us get off on this stuff and will say anything to justify our kicks. And anyone who doesn't get that isn't a real supporter of <insert relevant tribe> or for that matter a real man. If dickhead on dickhead action is your bag at least come out of the closet. I'm with an earlier poster. By all means have a nice time in the sun getting slowly pissed but have the sense to do it it somewhere that isn't a dickhead magnet and show some respect to everyone around you regardless of their tribal loyalties. You never know - we might earn some respect back.

Looking online there is a lot of stuff about English being attacked by locals and the pOlice and Russians with some being beaten and thrown into the sea. This certainly isn't a straightforward issue. Some of us have mates out there and some of the comments on here, wishing death on English people who are a bit drunk and rowdy for instance, are bang out of order

They have followed England abroad, and they've only ever been given grief by,yes you guessed it,other England "fans". We have some of the best fans in world football, unfortunately we have a massive amount of complete and utter bellends following us who never seem to grow the fuck up.

Just seen some of the interviews with English fans.......thought I'd been transported back in time 20 years as none of them had done anything wrong and then suddenly the police turn up from no where at beat them up heavy handily for no reason. How unlucky can some England fans be to keep getting into the same sort of bother. Pretty sure the picture will be the same if we wind the clock on another 20 years.

I think the only "nobjockey" here is the one that started this thread. What absolute garbage you talk. There are fans from 24 countries in France and yet the trouble surrounds supposed fans from England for 3 consecutive nights. Totally indefensible. The Police & security services have enough to deal with without these English arseholes whose behaviour has been despicable.

And to think my son is going out as a dad it's worrying and a fan of football it's shameful no matter who started it, self control is all that is needed but some just cant help themselves.
