The results in the last 2 months showed that! The season is contested over approx.9 months or at least it was last time I checked ? And at home the performances have been average at best and the results not much better. A season to forget.

I got picked up from the match and went for a family meal and said exactly the same as it turned out that Hughes had said.I'm not condoning pissing about with it just outside the six yard box but some of our support have no patience and prefer it to be launched.

Some maybe but the majority there yesterday were pissed off for the right reasons and for what we've seen for a good proportion of the season.

If I had a pound for everyone time I heard "fucking get rid" or something similar when we have the ball I'd be a rich man. The biggest cheer in the first half was when John Walters chased a complete lost cause, I still think there's Stoke fans out there who'd be happy to see Andy Cooke up front running around "passionately" and giving 110%........

It's been a tough season regarding home performances with teams giving us way more respect than in the past. We've missed Johnson and imo we need a new left back if we're to change that next season. That's moving away from the point though.Hughes is obviously getting the feeling that some of our fans prefer the direct stuff to the way he plays so I don't understand what the problem is.He's right, some fans don';t have the patience for it and its probably starting to piss him off a bit after providing 3 successive 9th place finishes.

They'd have a lot more patience for it if we'd played well at home with any sort of regularity or at least tried something different now and again. But the slow build up play was playing right into their hands and doing us no favours whatsoever. We've struggled to create chances and looked ponderous and devoid of ideas for most of the season at home. It's been a problem off and on throughout the Hughes era but since Nzonzi left it's really come to the fore this season. I think fans just want us to move the ball more quickly, however it's achieved.

Don't really disagree with any of that.Like i previously said, when teams come and sit our full backs will often find the most space especially with Arnie and Shaqiri being tightly marked, hence why we've missed Johnson and why we need an attacking left full back(hopefully Amavi). The point was though that Hughes thinks some Stoke fans prefer us being more direct and I agree with what he's said,so don't understand the problem.

Do you think there would have been the complaints yesterday if we were moving the ball quickly along the ground and creating chances? If the patient build up play was working and we were playing well and scoring goals or at least looking vaguely threatening, there's no way there would have been that grumbling. It's not about preference, it was about the fact that we have been doing this for weeks and looked dreadful doing it, and showed no sign of learning from our mistakes.

I don't think it's the first time that Hughes has thought that some Stoke fans prefer direct football,I think it finally came to a point especially after the crowd reaction and he felt a little peeved after what he's done here.Forget our form for a moment, even in the past, when N'Zonzi's been in possession for example, held a couple of players off and then laid a square ball off,you can hear the groans.

Again though mate, if everything was rosy and the current way was yielding goals, chances and exciting football, do you think the crowd would have reacted like it did yesterday? People weren't calling for us to knock long diagonals to a target man when we were spanking Man City or scoring four at Everton were they?

Bizarre comment from Hughes , the crowd don't really care about systems or to some extent style , provided it's done well . What the crowd don't like to see is players fannying around or loosing the ball being sloppy or lazy .

The problem is you can only pass to a player who is not tightly marked .
We need more movement off the ball in order to speed things up .
I think that some Stoke fans rightly or wrongly enjoy long ball football with everybody charging up and then back again rather than patient build up from the back.
Our play has suffered due to the bad results and then confidence disappearing especially when Jacob was in goal and Ryan was in no form at all

They needed a rocket up their arses it took the crowd to do it, it is blatantly obvious Hughes is not or has not bollocked the lazy feckers, he should be having a word with himself not looking to deflect his shortcomings.

Of course he's going to take it personally, the crowd demanded more possession when he arrived, he delivered. Then at the first sign of trouble they want to revert to lumping it forward. His style of football has delivered us 3 top ten finishes at the end of the day, perhaps he's just pointing out that he can't win. The results in the last 2 months showed that! And the person revelling in it responds...
