I'm no legal eagle but I can't help thinking that some of the more fanciful notions on here, particularly as pertaining to named individuals, want reigning in, if the good admins of the Oatcake are to retain their liberty. oh come on mate....he's playing for a team going for the title and got angry at a ref's decision halfway through the run in to the biggest prize in English football. it's fucking obviously drugs...you've got that as an option or the option of him being wound up and frustrated at the ref (which happens more or less at least once in virtually EVERY single game i watch every weekend at some point from some player). Player pissed off with the ref??? yeah as if that EVER happens.........obviously MUST be drugs! QED and all that

I'm a bit late to this thread, but thanks for the technical insight, Kustokie. I've stopped short of calling Leicester, cheats, but if my life depended on giving the right answer, either way, then I know which way I would go. What has been equally interesting is what the nay sayers have written. As a follower of cycling, I read many similar comments about the performance of Lance Armstrong's UPS team, and how they were tested numerously, there was no actual evidence, how could they keep it quiet, it's a team sport etc. I've said it many times before, when you have the means, motive and weak/corrupt governance, cheating will become prevalent.
Leicester may be a small team, but the sums of money available to them are still fast compared to other sports. Sometimes, doping success is more about taking bigger risks than the others and/or having the best doping doctor. Lance Armstrong took the biggest risks and had the best doctor(s), and he did this (at first) at a time where other bigger teams were doping, and had bigger budgets for it. In other words, the wealthiest teams do not always get the most out of their doping activities.
Lance also successfully linked the success of his team, to the success of the sport as a whole, and as a result, the UCI protected him. My faith in the FA/Premier League/UEFA/FIFA to go after the teams and players that keep them in Rolex watches and more, is very weak indeed.

A young baseball player has been collared this week for PED and it was discussed on the sport radio into work this morning.
An ex professional NHL player says no way he didn't know what he was taking and clearly he fucked up on his 'masking' drug.
Not even the same sport but an ex professional clearly knew how to defeat the testing.

I see an excellent chance for all teams above us to be prosecuted, stripped of points leaving Stoke as champions. Our lot would have been subject to prosecution but they fucked up and were on the Benylin.

It's been widely reported that Jaimie Vardy (by his own admission) uses Red Bull and snus (a tobacco pouch place in the gum or cheek) before and during games. While neither of these products are illegal, they both contain stimulants (caffeine and nicotine), which increase heart rate and cardiac output. They will also raise blood pressure , which is not advisable, particularly when engaging in strenuous exercise (especially in a hot humid climate, potentially causing dehydration). Interestingly, snus and chewing tobacco, which are widely abused by teenagers in the US (especially baseball players), has been outlawed in Major League Baseball because it encourages abuse by children. Chewing tobacco and snus are potentially dangerous products, which have been associated with cancer of the lip, throat, tongue, and mouth (surgery and radiation to treat these conditions are not pleasant and highly disfiguring). I sincerely hope kids in the UK don't follow Vardy's bad example. He should be roundly chastised in the press and strongly encouraged to give up the habit and denounce it publically as being very dangerous. Personally, I am not in the least surprise that he uses stimulants to improve his performance - I hope he doesn't live (die early) to regret it.

Is he stuck in some sort of time warp? Has he got a designer spittoon in his designer kitchen an 'all??

Is he stuck in some sort of time warp? Has he got a designer spittoon in his designer kitchen an 'all?? I know. It's a disgusting habit. Red necks in the US (and baseball players) have used snus and chew for years. Kids are adopting it because they believe it's safer than smoking (which is very debatable). They carry empty pop bottle around to get rid of the juice! Don't drink from someelse's pop! They can't do that on the field so they either spit is out (fuckin horrible) or swallow it (I can't imagine what it's tastes like and it's very toxic)

The 16th Century chemist, Paracelsus is considered the father of toxicology and was to the first to recognize "in the dose lies the poison". Drink too much coffee and you feel jittery and can't get to sleep. Smoke too many fags and you feel like crap. Red Bull is very high in caffeine. Nicotine in the mouth (or lungs) is absorbed very quickly. Raw nicotine is deadly and used as a pesticide. The occasional cup of team or coffee isn't going to hurt and smoking the odd cigar now and again can be quite calming. Take too much of either and bad things happen. Unfortunately, you can become quickly addicted to both, which means you need higher and higher dose to achieve the same effect, and withdrawal is miserable. Here endeth the lesson.

In your original post you mention blood infusions as a delivery method. Lance Armstrong case in point. How long from performing the procedure, which in itself sounds a tad complicated, would the individual reap any benefit. Not that I'm up for it or anything. A cyclist is one thing, a pro football player about to hit the pitch can't really nip into the bog and have a quick jab 5 mins before the start of a game. I don't know enough but the practicalities are curious at best.

So when is a performance enhancing drug deemed illegal/legal. Surely anything that is taken purely to increase performance like caffeine and nicotine should be banned. Snus is banned from sale in EU because of its cancer causing side effects.

Someone I know had told me about Vardy before and I thought it very strange a nicotine patch and 6 cans of red bull before a game is extreme and Id imagine not good for your long term health if taken over a number of years. I guess like wrestlers with steroids its a risk he's prepared to take. I'm not sure once he's finished playing he'll be feeling the same though when he has health issues. It certainly explains his meteoric rise.

Will teams losing matches 4-0 be automatically exempted for tests of 'performance enhancing drugs'?

Snus is banned from sale in EU because of its cancer causing side effects. If it is on the WADA prohibited list, it is illegal. If it isn't its not. There are always a number of additional substances that are under review at any one time (Like Meldonium was before it was banned this year) and caffine & nicotine are such substances. Presumably one the issues would be deciding what is a "legal" level. How many cups of coffee would you be allowed with your breakfast? How many fags a day could you smoke?

This subject seems to have gone a bit quiet so I thought I'd provide a little trivia to distract from our poor start to the season.
I see that Sir Bradley Wiggins is in the news for taking steroids. Actually there are two types of steroids: anabolic steroids are all derivatives of testosterone and are used by the body to build muscle. Cortico-steroids are all derivatives of cortisone and are used by the body to counteract inflammation. Many asthma inhalers contain cortico-steroids, such as triancinolone and have only weak anabolic activity. So this is basically a bullshit story.

However, using a steroid inhaler won't do much of anything except help the inflammation in his lungs because the dose is too low.
