Sadly defending starts from the front and the vast majority of our team simply weren't at the races when it came to doing anything remotely like hard work. I've seen traffic cones cover more ground than crouch, shaqiri is the dictionary definition of lazy, Cameron is crap, 3 of the back 4 were clearly not fit or have been playing with injuries for far too long whilst the goalkeeper looked like a rabbit trapped in the headlights. A desperately disappointing day all round really and its hard to see where the next points are coming from. That just about nails it...

Surely it can't be that hard to find someone who is prepared to be disciplined in midfield? I've defended Cameron on here loads of times, but I'm beginning to wonder if Bayern was right about him! Cheick Tioté? Newcastle will be keen to offload. I'd prefer Saivet, but he only signed for them in the January window. Thought he looked good at Bordeaux. We definitely need someone with a bit of drive, someone who can grab the game by the bollocks when needed.

Haven't been on here since the game and haven't read all of the above.
Thoughts:
1. You must defend from the front and our wide and front men (especially Shaq) were very poor in this regard. We missed Arnie (and even Walters/Diouf?) as much for his tracking back as for his attacking prowess. 2. Cameron was not an able replacement for the human shield that is Glenn Whelan (Geoff was carrying a knock, to be fair). We need a younger back up to him in the summer clearly. 3. Pieters is either or both of injured and out of form - Muniesa must start next week. 4. We are not doing the team or Ryan any favours by bringing him back too soon. He was very rusty. 5. We have gone from having one of the top 3 to one of the bottom 3 keepers in the league - Given's experience is badly needed to steady the ship as the defence must have confidence and trust in the keeper. It is clear they do not trust Haugaard.

Objective view: Watched your game on a stream yesterday and first half thought it pretty even – it was. Imbula reminds me of a better Diame but he can’t do it all on his own and the other midfielders needed to get on the same page to take advantage of the physical presence he brings. After the break Klopp stepped it up, bypassed your midfield and you couldn’t cope once they gave you no time on the ball and a lot of your team were passengers. Hughes didn’t react to this until the game was gone. Hughes clearly set up with Crouch to take advantage of their defensive frailties aerially but when Shaqiri failed time after time to clear the first man – well it won’t work and there wasn’t an obvious plan B with the personnel you had on the pitch. Some of the defending was dire (Pieters) and your keeper looked like a rabbit in the headlights but you missed Arnie massively as an out ball and general threat to stretch them. Having said that the result overall flattered them IMO. Doesn't work like that as you should know the only reason for losing is because your team have no bottle and no fight and manager is an idiot who doesn't care

True. We've struggled in every game when the opposition press us! Needs sorting for next season, if not earlier.
