The history books will judge SJW kindly both domestically and internationally. He has pieced together an astonishing career. It's been a marriage made in heaven in the Potteries, he needed Stoke City and Stoke City needed him

Loves the Irish fans song for Walters....Ooooh Jonathan Walters... To the tune of Seven Nation Army, or the old N'Zonzi song.
Class performance from SJW and the ever impressive Glen Whelan. If England had a few players with even an ounce of the commitment those two show every time they take to a football pitch, things would be looking a hell of a lot more interesting.

Although they play in different positions, Walters reminds me a lot of John Mahoney from the team of the 70s. Neither are what the purists would call a "classy" player but both got the maximum out of the talent they had and both would run all day like a Duracell Bunny!
Well done tonight Jon - I'm delighted you'll get to perform in a major tournament.

Whelan & Walters were past it 2 years ago were they not Who do we support if they meet England? hmm tricky one...if you're irish then you'd support ireland, if you're english then you'd support england and if you're a miserable bastard on the oatcake then you'll support everyone else who plays against england just so you can moan your arse off......then in a few years, if we become decent again and can possibly compete at major tournaments, will suddenly claim to have been england boys through thick and thin

There has been lots of praise ( deservedly so) for SJW but typically Glen Whelans performance goes under the radar. I thought he was superb as usual, we have come to accept these performances and he is now getting the appreciation he deserves, but it seems the media don't yet recognise his value.I have rarely heard Whelan give an interview ,I wonder if this is Glenn's choice, I get the impression he is a leader and talkative on the pitch, but a little shy off it.

Great performance by the 2 Stoke lads tonight. Walters is far from anonymous. He's in fact very noticeable, mostly by his complete WANKNESS as a PL footballer. Rarely plays the ball and concentrates on the man, gives away ridiculous free kicks, has no awareness on the pitch and has the technical ability of Vinny Jones. He either trains like Pele or has photos on managers. I fucking despair when I see this bloke play. Some idiot is talking about agendas, yes I have one - to rid SCFC of mediocrity. Take it that your opinion has changed

I think it was Pugsley who said it on another thread, he was beginning to suffer burnout and go stale under TP, now he is being managed and its paying dividends. I admit to the occasional moan and groan sometimes when I hear he is starting (especially at Mames expense)so I hold my hands up, can't knock him at the moment though, he does have a first class attitude week in and week out. Well done tonight SJW, keep it going yoth!.

Agreed. Glenn has been one of our key players for the last couple of seasons, and probably further back. Everyone thought it was Nzonzi bringing the best out of him, but his impact this season alone shows that he is one hell of a midfield player in his own right. Seems to me that both Glenn and SJW, having toiled away in the lower leagues for the first few years of their careers, make the most of every minute on the pitch, both for Stoke and at international level. They are the heartbeat of our team.

Super Jon? or Glen Whelan?
They have had their critics but pound for pound have we had any better players since being in the Prem? I suppose Glen at £500,000, based on cost per minute on the pitch is probably the best. But SJW continues to write his name as a player that just won't lie down. He may be canonized in Ireland after tonight!
