Just seen that, brilliant news it is too. No idea the sticking point whether it be length or money but I'm glad it's resolved and for the right amount of time too

Good news, he deserves a new deal.
I love Jon but I've often thought at the end of each of numerous seasons that we'd be finding someone better but he keeps on doing it and earning the right to play.
Folk can argue about the rights and wrongs of the length of the contract but it isn't going to bankrupt us and if the powers that be are happy then we don't have to worry about it.

Fantastic news
Lads like him Whelan and Shawcross are what we've bulid all the recent success on and represent everything I like to think this club stands for. Fight hard work and determination
Well done Jon lad

Turning into an old folk's home. "Just doing right by those who got us here", I think was the previous manager's phrase! Given all the money washing around in the club on less deserving players, it is sensible business and well deserved. Top pro and reliable performer. Good day to announce it too - I sense a great reaction before kick-off and a goal coming.

Happy enough with that although he is likely to play a diminishing role in all probability. Could become an impact sub.

Turning into an old folk's home. Majority of our players are around 26-27 Agreed but then you have all of these in their 30's and on decent contracts and only 2 really should be a regular in the starting XI. Given Bardsley Johnson Odemwingie Walters Cameron Sidwell Crouch Whelan You then have 3, 29 year olds who don't really deserve guaranteed starting places either in Adam, Ireland and Afellay. We have an aging squad and a manager that seems as not bothered at using the youth side as much (if not more) as the previous manager.

Turning into an old folk's home. Bet you weren't saying that against Chelsea in the cup! Overall I thought he was pretty poor vs them. Great goal obviously but wasted loads of chances to kill them off. He's a good squad player but we have a load of old squad players, too many. Something needs to give soon.

This is the first year for a good while (Ollie Shenton aside) we have anyone good enough to even think about challenging regularly for a spot in the first team with Molina, Moha, Telford etc. They will start to feed in in years to come I reckon.
