I think Wollscheid and Cameron deserve a bit of praise after that performance at the weekend. Those 2 in particular have come in for criticism in the past (the former more than the latter) but after both played a big part in our greatest performance in decades, surely that puts the nonsense to bed?
How many clean sheets is that now for Wollscheid? He really is turning out to be a brilliant investment after most (myself included) questioned whether it was a complete waste of money based on the assumption he would end up being 5th choice.
As for Geoff, he gave us an extra dimension in midfield. Adam has been doing well in that position but the shirt is now definitely Cameron's to lose. Hopefully him and Glenn can form a good partnership together in front of the imperious back 5.

Cameron was excellent at the weekend. Him and Whelan formed a very strong and effective midfield.

popping to the shop yesterday I decided to buy the Sun, as I think their football coverage is usually very good.
Having read the report I thought I must share their player ratings with you. Now not having the Sun with me (I'm at work) I am doing this by memory
Butland 7 Johnson 6 Shawcross 7 Wollschied 7 Pieters 7 Cameron 8 MOM Whelan 7 Shaqiri 7 Arnautovic 8 Bojan 7 Affelay 7
for Man City most scored a 6 apart from David Silva who scored a 7..........yes that's right David Silva played as well as Shaqiri, Bojan and Affelay according to the Sun, I did go to the game Saturday and from what I recall Silva hardly touched the ball before being dragged off. If Silva was a 5 that's as much as he was worth, Shaq on the other hand was at least an 8 if not a 9, for me Bojan and Affelay were 8's also. it does make me wonder about the bias in the Sun
Cam had a very good game but MOM performance???
Get it in the oatcake Smudge!! First rule of fight club mate. If you read the sun, don't talk about it

Never seen anyone who keeps on running like him. He's like a duracell bunny. There was a period in the first half where Citeh were tapping it around just outside our box and were sort of doing one touch triangles, keeping possession, looking like something might happen. Out of nowhere, Cameron flew across like a mental jack russell and cleared the ball for a throw, right off one of their players toe. It was brilliantly no nonsense, yet so necessary. It was also his clever run that started the second goal. Not a premiership player? Only had two of the best playmakers in his back pocket.

Great comments too:
"It's a great team, isn't it? It's like he's taken them over on FIFA. I can't believe how they've transformed from the Delap hoof ball era."
"I thought Stoke were excellent on Saturday - conditions were tough but they still played some lovely football."
"Stoke were actually brilliant against Southampton as well, slick, smooth & beautiful football but that performance went completely unrecognised. Anyway nice to see Mark Hughes getting the credit he deserves."
"It was really something to see them in action. The movement, the passing and the flair between the 4 of them was definitely some of the better plays that I've seen this season...perhaps only matched by Mahrez and Vardy combining earlier in the season. A selfish note btw: I'd love Bojan at Spurs. Closest we'd ever get to having a Messi"

Fuck the media! I can't believe you people! The Premier League press has fellated every football club with an ounce of flair that has graced the league and counted its parachute payments. And now it's our turn you're all weak at the knees with burning amour!
Have some fucking self-respect!

Nice piece. I have a minor gripe about the media's coverage of this though - all the articles say this is clearly our best performance in the Prem and this is the renovation project finally coming to fruition, as if it only started when we signed Shaqiri and Affelay. Seems to have been forgotten that we inflicted Liverpool's worst defeat in living memory in May this year, as well as demolishing Arsenal last season, when we should have been 4-0 up but for a poor decision by a lino. Like I say though, it's a minor gripe.

To me it was as if Mark Hughes faced with a dot to dot puzzle that was hard to solve, just had that spark of illumination an epiphany even, and
quickly joined up the dots to result in a devastating combination of a robust collective of both hard working and classy football players and,
footballing tactics.
Be honest now - did many of us see that formation coming ? - no centre forward - Bojan up top ?????
Bojan, afellay, Arnautovic and Shakiri all on the pitch at the same time ?
Perfect almost - only the score did not reflect the complete domination of a game against a supposedly far superior opposition.
No I'm not getting carried away either, that formation will work away from home when home teams are expected to attack us and, at our own home
when the larger clubs still come, expecting or needing to beat us.
The acid test comes on Saturday when we face a similarly positioned team to ourselves (West Ham) with their own particular set of good attackers
and then, when we get to play ( play ???) a Pulis typed formation with 8 men solidly placed behind the ball, denying space to pass and move forward into
'We' live in wonderfully interesting times and yes - memories of how good we were in the 70's come flooding back
Can we possibly be that good again ?
Can we actually watch our players take the piss our of the opposition just like Alan Hudson used to do ?
well actually some of our lads did last Saturday - they are easy to list so - I wont bother
might we go even better ?
Can we repeat this against Man United / Arsenal and Liveprool, still having to visit us ?
Lovely thoughts
And Stoke on Trent really deserves this - its just the total entity needs to 'get with the programme' -- so to speak
( thats why Im sometimes overly critical of 'local attitudes' - shall we say)
Id start by letting the much overdue construction contract for filling the scoreboard corner in --right now !
By the way - noting the post above - there is 'having some self respect' and then the 'I know my place diatribe' , being happy
'tipping the peak of your cap in a servile way' to your supposed betters
Id say to all Stoke City fans - fuck that !

I agree with all that but think i witnessed something on saturday better than i did watching the Waddington team.Dont get me wrong Greenhoff,Huddy etc were immense but footy has changed, and on saturday we crucified the table toppers playing a beautiful brand of football that would grace ANY fucking league in the world.

"Stoke City: England’s great entertainers? It is certainly much too early for any definitive judgment, let alone one of that sort of hyperbole, but the prospect does not seem as hootingly ludicrous as it once would have."

...we looked strong in every position, and we looked a match for anybody.
When was the last time that happened - when you weren't thinking "We'd be a really good side if we could just strengthen a certain position"?
Unless I'm overlooking something obvious, was it the Macari team of 1993? Or do we have to go back to the seventies?
