I have not really said anything to the contrary regarding Etherington, and have not done him a disservice - I merely insinuated that he would not fit into the style of our current team. Saying that, 8/10 every week? Come on, even Ethers had some stinkers - usually following a hefty challenge from a full-back early doors (Big Ron used to call them a 'reducer') - he definitely went missing in the odd game or two... You actually said we'd moved on from Matt which infers that the present incumbents are better than him. They may be more technically gifted but in my opinion Ethers was more effective and consistent. I think he'd be brilliant in this team. Arnie and Shaqiri are similar players and when we play The Holy Trinity as you call them for me we lack variety and that is why a number of teams have found us out. Why limit yourself to a short passing style? Football is most effective when it's mixed up. For me we need a wideman that goes by people and can put in a decent cross. That is always assuming we play a proper centre forward of cause. That's not regressing to Pulisaball that's maximising your attacking options. I really think if we'd put the ball in the box against Liverpool with a proper centre forward wed have got a result. Arnie put several quality crosses in v. Norwich, one of which Walters scored from. Where is the problem?

The haters will despise that. ??? I'm not sure this will go down that well with Scholes and the team who are trying to nail him down to a contract.....that's more of a concern to us.

The haters will despise that. Who hates Arnie? Those who love Arnie do seem to go a little OTT as if he's the best thing since sliced bread (and lets face it, Sliced bread is the bollocks). There have been games which I have felt Arnie really hasn't played particularly well and I come on here and people are raving about the three crosses he put in over 90 mins etc.

The haters will despise that. Who hates Arnie? Absolutely no one. It’s part of some sort of wider mythology built up by some supporters in an attempt to paint themselves as somehow superior to others.

Absolutely no one. It’s part of some sort of wider mythology built up by some supporters in an attempt to paint themselves as somehow superior to others. Maybe - My take on it is that there are a minority who took an instant dislike to Arnie upon arrival and cannot admit they were wrong. So whenever they deem his performance 'inconsistent' (Really? - how many players play perfectly all game every game???) they point out his 2 mistakes rather than his 10 good contributions. Run-of-the-mill contract negotiation shenanigans are just another stick to beat him with - probably the same people who a couple of months ago were saying SJW can name his price... Christ - there are even fuckwits saying that if someone offers £10M for Bojan we should snap their hands off. People have agendas - on this mb they are displayed proudly like a badge of honour.

For fucks sake. One of our players wins a player of the month award and all we can do is turn it into part of an agenda driven personal argument. Oatcake Messageboard? Like my arse.

We had exactly the same comment on the Walters thread.
No one hates Walters, but it's ok to make it up when it's the 'right way' that's right isn't it Taliban?
Pricks.

Fcuk him off.....Championship at best.....not good enough.....and so on. Walters has had it all down the years. Arnie got grief early on....particularly when he was horrbly out of form.....this season it's been a veritable Arnie love in. And richly deserved.

Arnies had those very comments directed at him in the past (even by the poster who posted that on the Walters thread)... But that's perfectly acceptable. Don't you think it's a tad hypocritical with the "it's ok to give Arnie grief when he was HORRIBLY OUT OF FORM (exaggeration)" but the slightes criticism of Jon when he's out of form get the usual suspects jumping on everyone's back? Of course you don't. At least be consistent with your faux outrage on both threads.

Yet you defend Arnie BEFORE any criticism is directed at him. Consistentcy......consistently predictable at least.
