Just out of interest I was told today that Arnie is constantly phoning the coaching staff after games asking how he did and if they thought he'd played well. I would have thought that someone with an over inflated sense of his own worth wouldn't need to be constantly reassured. It smacks more of someone much more insecure than you might imagine. I'm sure his agent though, has a massively over inflated sense of his clients worth. I wonder if he gave them a bell after the Liverpool game in mid week If the tale I was told is true I should imagine he probably did.

I was told it by someone who has contacts at the club. I don't know if it's true or not but it sounds like the kind of odd thing he would do.

He's not consistent enough for me. Wouldn't be that upset if he leaves. If you'd written this 12 months ago I'd maybe have agreed with you but he's arguably been player of the season so far and was excellent for the last half of last season. Not sure what else you expect from him this year. My only gripe with him was that he was awful in front of goal, but he's even quashed that with 7 goals in 19 matches. Sometimes he drops back into that former Arnie and gets frustrated with himself when things aren't going his way. He's definitely having his best season though so far. I think Johnson is up there for player of the season.

It isn't ideal but I'd much rather be a stepping stone for top talent than a festering wasteland for disinterested journeymen.

Same goes for the likes of Bojan and Shaqiri, as soon as a "bigger" club comes sniffing they'll be fucking gone. For sure. But it's all relative. Man U was a stepping stone for Ronaldo to get to Real Madrid so it happens to all clubs. We should be grateful for the time we have them, have a proactive recruitment team to plan for the inevitable when they leave, and have a few good solid professionals for several years to ensure the wheels don't come off. I think that's pretty much what we have in place today.

We showed last year that we aren't willing to let our players leave on a free... And that may be the case again with Arnie if the two parties can't come to an agreement. I'm not entirely sure what point you're making here? If he leaves at the end of this season with twelve months left on his contract we'll get a fee. If he leaves at the end of his contract we won't get a penny. Of course any fee in the summer wouldn't be as high as one we'd get if he'd had two or three years left on his current deal, but what do you want... for us to sell him (and other players) less than halfway through his contract? What do you mean you're not sure the point I'm making? I said that we should of done this in the summer, rather than let a player get down to their last 6 months of their contract. 18 months is effectively 6 months nowadays when it comes to losing a player as we will not run down his contract.

1) NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND THE SCENES!!
2) YOU CANT MAKE A PLAYER SIGN A FUCKING CONTRACT IF THEY DONT WANT TOO!!!
There, I feel better.

Arnie should sign a new contract even if he plans to move on soon, it's shitty to leave us without one of our best players and without the transfer money to replace him, if he doesn't sign a new contract will we turn down £7.5m in the summer?
Of course it's all hearsay at this point and all we can do is guess but i for one don't believe he wants to leave just yet, the euros are coming up and this is the first place he's been where he's been at his best, why would he rock the boat just yet? It's far more likely that he's holding out for money

It's far more likely that he's holding out for money If I was him I'd do the same, he should be on par with the best paid at the club and longer term he should be looking to progress and play for a bigger club, it's not what people want to hear but it's the reality - Arnie is potentially good enough to be playing for a Champions League team as are Bojan and Shaqiri, in the short term I think we will have to pay big wages to keep them all here but it's inevitable they go at some stage, we just need to make sure it's on our terms. Give the man a big pay rise and sign him up for a few more years, if a big offer comes in then let him go if he wants but for the time being it's in both our interests that he stays.

If it was me I'd offer him a pay rise on a long term contract with a champions league club clause in it. Then everyone's happy. Obviously for the hard of thinking on here I want arnie gone ...

Bojan & Shaqiri I can see playing at a higher level again.
BUT Arnie I just dont see him at a Man Utd, Chelsea or even a Borussia Dortmund/ Werder Bremen type club.
Maybe at one of the Turkish clubs that have the cash and get into the early stages of the Champions League.
The recent Press article likening him to Ibrahimovich is frankly laughable. Besides the hair-do and attitude he has nothing in common with Zlatan football-wise.
Hes great for us, but for too inconsistent for anyone higher up in the food chain

I think all 3 are hit and miss enough to warrant them staying here, to be honest. They are fantastic when they are on their game and majestic when they all click together, but they don't do it often enough. Ironically, I think Arnie is the most consistent of the three.

I'd agree with it being his BEST season (by a country mile) but rather than saying he's been the "best".....I'd say he's been one of the "better" ones....along with Johnson, Shawcross, Peiters and Butland (maybe even throw Wolscheid in there)!!!
