I hope he's right because aside from that sensational performance he put in against Chelsea, he's looked very jaded and distracted. He should have scored twice Saturday, he'd have buried those last season.
Come on Mame.

He's a human being who's lost his mother in a horrific manner not a fucking robot.

These things effect different people in different ways.
The fact that he's so far from home has probably made it much tougher for Mame.
All we can do as supporters is exactly that. Support him and help him get back to his best. It's often in adversity that real bonds are formed....Rory Delap's broken leg....Charlie's father.....TPs mother....all massive events in those people's lives but also times when the bonds between them and the club grew stronger IMO.

'When the going gets tough. Diouf gets going.' What a fantastic footballing story if he returns in rampaging form. It's his bothday today too.

Go on Mame.
Criminal finishing on Saturday. Never mind.
He'll score 15 if he plays up front for the rest of the season.

I actually was going to say that it affects everyone differently and who can blame him for not being interested in football when he's just lost his mother. I figured the oatcake morality police would remind me that everyone else in life has to just get on with it. Turns out I literally can't fucking win, can I?

I'm sick of Diouf not being in the side, why would a team that is struggling for goals leave their biggest goal threat on the bench, week in week out!.

He's had a tough few months. Looks short of form. I thought Walters would be the choice from the bench.

He's had a tough few months. Looks short of form. I thought Walters would be the choice from the bench. It will take him some time to get his head together, as myself & others on here will vouch for, a significant loss like his is not overcome in just a few weeks or months. Phil Taylor has gone through similar. Doesn't matter if youre on 15k a year, 15k a week or 50k a week, its still as bad.
having said that, Mame could just as easily have missed last weeks chances regardless. He's not clinical: crosses in the box are food for him, he's a great header and he's had one or two instinctive, rebound kind of goals but put him on the end of through balls, one or one with a goalkeeper where there is a clear decision to be made, which side, power or placement, chip it over the keeper etc then its a different story. He doesn't have that guile or composure. There was the brilliant Man City goal but that was a rare type for him and not a typical Diouf strike In all fairness he's not alone, half the strikers in this league are no better. The strikers that consistently put these away are very hard for even a man UTD to find let alone a Stoke. Mame is really a superior Kenwyne Jones to be fair. He's not the Sheron/Stein player we desperately need. Peter Crouch is sadly fading now from the equation.
The lack of goals is worrying, especially when a bad patch comes. We seem to be creating more chances than in years and yet are scoring far fewer than even in Pulis days. Can you iimagine a Fuller on the end of the through balls that we are seeing now. Even Dave Kitson could finish them. a striker has to be a priority in the new yaer but who is another matter? No sense if it doesn't improve things. Is there any Championship lads who could make the step up?? Trouble is British clubs ask silly money.

I think part of the problem is we're scoring no goals from set pieces at all which can help support a team when they're going through a lean spell. For me if we play 4231 Diouff has to play because he will cause the opposition problems with his pace if nothing else

Sorro
For once I absolutely agree , I'm beginning to wonder if Hughes doesn't fancy dropping one of the galaticos .
But one needs to make way for a propercnete forward , decent In the air , with pace and that has to be Mam

There's a tiny possibility that a player whose mother has just died might not be in the right frame of mind for regular football and Hughes is thinking that until he is we should considering playing a player who has played 100 odd games for the Barca first team instead for a bit

Some people really have little empathy often through little experience of life. Having said that as I said, I don't think Diouf is the right player for a balls to feet approach, only the crosses that he loves to attack. Even in a better frame of mind though, Im not convinced he would have put those two away at West Ham. It's not his strength.
Is Peter Odemwingie really out of the picture for good?? He would stick away that sort of chance IF fit to play

God I wish we had young Wingie, can't believe he rotted on West Brom's bench curing his late 20s and early 30s

Joselu too isn't showing much for 5 million plus. Ok he's not had much game time but he shows NOTHING on the pitch at all.
Is there no one in the lower leagues or championship who could step up; a proven finisher?? The principles of hitting the target and beating a keeper are the same whatever league.
We haven't had a really great striker since Ric have we.

Not since the penalty he won anyway against Spurs. Even that was a daft penalty from their pov as he wasn't going anywhere.

Joselu has barely been given a chance.

Dioufs continued omission is baffling.
I appreciate losing your mum is massive, particularly given the tragic circumstances but if he's mentally right to sit on the bench, he's mentally right to play.
Watching Walters be ahead of you in the pecking order must be mental torture. Its torture for me watching him I know that much.

Judging by yesterday Ryan is preferred by Leslie in the centre forward role. How the hell did we finish a game with Shawcross at centre forward with Diouf and Joselu on the bench with an unused substitution still available?
