Pre match Hughes said everyone bar Given was fit. So looks like Diouf simply not selected.

Perhaps, just perhaps his mother getting fucking trampled to death not so long ago is still playing on his mind and he's just not in the right place at the moment?

He apparently said he's over it but he simply can't be, even if he thinks he is.
I doubt we'll see much of him this season and rightly so. As a club we have a good record of looking after players and staff in times of crisis, I'd rather Diouf be given time away to get his head round things and recover as best he can, away from any pressures about performance in games etc. Who gives a toss about football when you have been through what he has?

He played against Chelsea and for Senegal (scoring) since it has happened though. And came out in an interview thanking the club for their support and that he was over it. Then last night Hughes said no one bar Given was injured.
Something doesn't add up.

A fan said he was all smiles pre match too which made me think he was maybe going to start. Just frustrating for everyone I guess.

There's no sense in having Walters, Joselu and Crouch on the bench, and Diouf in the stands. We desperately need his pace and power as an option. His goals to game ratio takes some beating too.
Either his head isn't right, or Hughes has lost some patience with him after the squandered chances at West Ham.
We'll see against Doncaster I guess. Unless Joselu, Walters or Crouch are the strikers in that squad too...

I lost my mother in tragic circumstances 15 years I'm now 55 and it still hurts like hell now , so I know what he's going through Your heart goes out to him and who knows how he is, even a 5-10% drop in focus/heart can affect performances. It'll affect people different in ways I guess. Charlie Adam and Frank Lampard seem, from the outside, to carry the tragic loss of a parent close to the surface through games, but almost gain strength from it (for want of a better expression).

I lost my first wife and it took along time to stop breaking into tears at the slightest thing. My wife lost her mother a few years ago and she still grieves terribly at times like anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Christmas/new year could have brought his loss all back to him. God bless and comfort him.

I lost my cherished mother unexpectedly in August, only a matter of days after having spent a week taking her on holiday to her favourite seaside haunts. It's January now but still feels like it only happened a fortnight ago and can confirm that 'head all over the place' is a very apt description to someone in this situation and as so, would be extremely surprised if he was over it yet.

I do have great sympathy and understanding regarding grief, having lost both parents and recently losing my mother in law. Most of us need time to get over the worst of it ( never completely get over it) but we also have to keep working, which to a great extent actually helps to bring some normality back into our lives. Diouf has had a considerable amount of time off and I do wonder whether it is actually doing him much good.

All it takes is for the club to come out and say he's not ready to play and all this speculation will stop

Now im sorry, but how long can we put this down to his head not being right?
People from all walks of life lose close family, they get a bit of compassionate leave then that's them back in. Blokes on tour get two weeks off then are shipped back over. Diouf himself has stated that he's fine.
This has nothing to do with his mother, something else is at play

Everyone's different.
I personally don't feel comfortable setting a date by which a bloke, and one in his 20s at that, should be over the death of his mother.
