It is bad (losing your best players always is) but it's inevitable and we've done a good deal all things considered (presuming we get 8m+).
The key now is getting a decent back up to Butland to push him.

It's not the best situation but it's the reality of modern football and money always wins over. We move on people and get behind the new players and have to trust the manager. The only people that stick around without money is us!!

Agreed. It isn't bad mate.
We had a great season last year when he was nowhere near his best. We've had more than our money's worth out of him, he's been a very good servant and we've moved him on for a profit. It's very difficult to spin this one as a bad bit of business.
Andrew Davies, Tonge, Kitson, Sonko, Arismendi, Palacios etc. - that's what you class as the duff deals.
Onwards and upwards.

Not that bothered to be honest. Yes he's a good keeper but like any player, if he wants to go (warm his arse on Chelskis bench most likely) and doesn't want to play for our great club then he's better off going. Sounds harsh I know but it's the reality of modern footballers So... Ta-ta Bego thanks for the memories.

Whilst he's a top keeper. We have another younger top keeper ready and waiting.
We'll make a handsome profit on his initial purchase fee (especially pleasing being that he has only a year left on his contract).
He looks like he's going to place himself into semi-retirement at Chelsea so he's unlikely to even deny us at any point.
Although yes, he's one of our top players, if you've got to lose one that's the way to lose them.

I reckon Jack Butland whilst a big prospect is actually, some long way behind where Begovic is at in terms of a 'top flight goalkeeper'
I still rate Begovic easily in the top six keepers in the premiership whilst Jack Butland is still relatively inexperienced.
there's actually, quite a gulf in class to be filled when Asmir Begovic leaves - if truth be told

Butland's going to be a great keeper for Stoke. We may have to put up with a few bumps in the road along the way, but we had enough of them last season from Begovic and we did okay.
Jack's time is here.
We do need another experienced keeper to bring the numbers back up to three, but I'm sure Hughesy will sort that out.

Hughesey needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat with the back up goalie, his record with signing goalies is "interesting".

He was still unproven but had bags of potential. We took him on, showed faith in him and we reaped the rewards. Butland has bided his time since turning down Chelsea to sign for us, and his time is now here. It's a slight gamble but I'm more excited about his potential and what he can go to achieve than I am anxious about him not cutting the mustard. With the fees being banded around for English talent, we could have one hell of an asset on our hands. It'll be great to have a young English talent in the side next season.

Look the facts are clubs of our size and bigger clubs than us will never be able to hold on to really top class players . Southampton got rinsed out last year and they will lose a couple more of there best players this window . We just need to replace them and move on

Are we talking Huth or Bego personally I think the loss of Huth will impact on an inexperienced keeper, £3million for Huth was a pathetic deal considering we paid virtually the same amount for Wolfshit

Bego made mistakes early on, and so will Butland. If that's understood and appreciated then we will, in my view, have a better keeper than Bego in the next few years.

Give it 6 months and you'll all be saying how crap Butland is and how you wish Begovic was still with you!!..When I was bragging up Cardiff's keeper (Marshall) on here just over a year ago, most of you were saying that he was nothing compared to Bego- who was some sort of Goalkeeping god, and that Banks and Shilton were nothing compared to him...Dear oh dear.
