Why pathetic? He's joking .... It's not remotely funny. Yes, it was. It's called irony.

SJW isn't ever going to give anything less than 100% on a football pitch.
He's still our player, so I'll still back him!

He's been great for us.
He scored a hat trick last year against QPR, he gives his all whatever the circs and contributes goals every season.
He has earned his corn in my view.

So 24 hours ago, he was a tosser who should be made to rot in the reserves, and now he's not so bad after all because he's staying? Oh the joys of this message board. If it makes you feel any better I remain disappointed that lassie is still here. Id genuinely hoped that I'd seen the last of him plodding his way through games. Still, he'll be handy for league cup ties against lower league opposition I suppose. Agreed useful back up but surely not a regular starter anymore, that huffing and puffing up the wing is so frustrating

Football got by very nicely for well over 100 years without a transfer window, it would only be missed by Sky. you may not have noticed, but for those 100 years you didn't have teenagers going for fees over £30mill, players publicly stating they're never playing for their chairman ever again and agents that force the hand of every impressionable youngster on their books because of the money involved. footy isn't quite the same as it was back in those days, it's a completely different game both on and off the pitch. whether we like it or not, some kind of window is essential to stop exactly what iwebby is suggesting would happen all season long. should definitely end before the start of the season though It could be argued that it's the presence of the window that causes the unedifying behaviour that you describe, could it not? If, as your nom de plume suggests, you are old enough to remember the pre-window days (& I'm guessing that iwebby is not) you will remember that there were transfer shenanigans back then too and the concept of the transfer window was introduced to try & reduce them. It is surely valid to question now whether the window has reduced these problems or made them worse, there are 2 sides to every coin in my world though apparently, judging by your condescending and dismissive reply, not in yours. It might even be argued that without the transfer window teenagers wouldn't be fetching ridiculous fees of £30m because the pressure on clubs to recruit in such a relatively short timescale is reduced. No one knows what the effect would be but I think that the way things have gone since the introduction of the transfer window is mostly to cause a whole host of unintended consequences. I agree that if the transfer window remains it should end before the start of the season. You may remember that before the transfer window, no transfers were allowed to take place on the last few weeks of the season for similar reasons.

Glad he is staying.
One way of looking at this is to consider that he now needs to work his socks off to earn a new contract from us or from another club.
If he sulks for 6 months the chance of a decent contract diminishes.

It depends on how he performs doesn't it? If he's selected, plays well and scores goals, then there won't be a problem.
Steven N'zonzi handed in two transfer requests and his name was chanted from the stands when he played well.
Why should it be any different for Jon Walters?

You're being a tad unkind to Jon here, it was only a year and a half for him to think of a response

I think you answered your question with your first sentence Dave. I think if he doesn't perform well, then he'll receive less patience from some sections of the crowd, than if he hadn't put in his request. N'Zonzi didn't get on his soap box in front of the cameras either. Having said that, I doubt Jon will see anything like the pitch time that N'Zonzi saw.
