No offence but shaqiri has proved his ability at a far higher level than Jon Walters could ever dream of. In all fairness the only league Shaqiri has ever proven himself in is the Swiss Super League. People might not want to hear it, but if Shaqiri had proven himself at Bayern Munich or Inter Milan he wouldn't be at Stoke now. He's here because his career had come to a stand still since he left FC Basel and hopefully we are the club that can help him to rediscover his potential again. Simply incorrect. He proved himself a very good player at Bayern before Pep came in and messed him about. He's proven himself at international level too. Even at Inter he won their crowd over,if not Mancini.

Looks like the second year of the extension offer is heavily appearance-related. MailJon Walters is edging towards ending his five-year stay at Stoke City but the club will only sell the forward if a bid close to £3million arrives.
The Republic of Ireland international handed in a transfer request on Monday to speed up the process after growing frustrated at contract negotiations.
Walters has 10 months left on his current deal and it is understood Stoke have offered a one-year extension with the option of a further season only if significant appearance conditions are met.

A strange situation really, even if I totally understand everyones point of view - Walters is at a difficult age, for himself and the club. If Hughes really wants Walters, and it appears he does, and Walters really wants to stay, you'd think that extra year could be structured a little differently. Call it a gift to Hughes and a loyalty bonus to Walters if you like. It's very difficult to see Walters getting much game time at all 2 years from now, but he's easily affordable in terms of wages and will probably be used a lot over the next 2 years. It's a relatively unique situation so will barely set a precedent.

He made a mistake / was badly advised when speaking out re his demands
A reporter sticking a microphone in his face, immediately after the Luton game, asking him re future plans was also poor
The management will not have been impressed with the comments
I think he will be very disappointed to leave the club - however it's also a numbers game and we still need to offload players.
One more if the Jedinak deal goes through and Shawcross is in the 25
I can't see either side backing down
both West Brom and Norwich still buying other players so who knows

Slightly off topic, Warnock has just been raving about Walters. Says he was in his office at QPR and ready to sign when the call came in from Pulis.

I don't mind a player speaking their mind to be honest, and it was widely known that there was distance between the two parties - both Walters and Hughes has said this previously.

I can't see Walters going to WBA. With Berahino, Rondon and Lambert they're covered for strikers (Brown has gone I think) and have McCleana and McManaman for the wings. He'd get very little game time I reckon but I'm guessing it's all about getting the deal he wants to secure his future. Fair enough if he goes. He's been a great servant for Stoke.

Totally agree. Unfortunately this is what I expected with Jonny as he has form in bleating to the press. He is obviously a very competitive character which is what makes him the player he is but the pitfall of such a quality is the public display of discontent.

SentinelWalters himself upped the ante yesterday by handing in a transfer request to smooth the wheels for any departure.
Everyone can therefore safely assume he knows where he's going, if Stoke give the green light, and no-one will be too surprised if that destination is some 40 miles south to be re-united with his old manager at West Bromwich Albion.

From our man John Percy Tony Pulis will be the busiest manager in the Midlands today - there could be at least four new signings arriving at West Brom.
Expect him to make a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak, whose move to Stoke appears to have collapsed, Spurs defender Federico Fazio, Stoke attacker Jon Walters and possibly Manchester United striker James Wilson.
Pulis is still anxiously waiting for the future of Saido Berahino to be resolved and that will play a huge part in his business before 6pm. If Spurs finally cough up the £25million required for Berahino, Pulis has deals lined up for Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips at QPR.
Stoke chairman Peter Coates has said its "unlikely" that Mile Jedinak will sign from Crystal Palace - though with the obvious transfer deadline caveat that the situation could change.
Palace had agreed to sell the Australia international to Stoke, who made their move after Jon Walters submitted a formal transfer request, but the deal is now doubtful due to a collapse in talks with the player.
If Jedinak doesn't sign, Stoke intend to keep Walters for the remainder of the season and let him go on a free transfer next summer.
Former Stoke manager Tony Pulis will have been keeping a close eye on the Jedinak situation, though, and he is expected to move later today.

Having to put up with it 2 years in a row with N'Zonzi didn't really cause any problems did it? I think SJW is too much of a pro to let this come in the way.i expect that if he stays he'll just crack on with it and it'll be BAU
