I'm not keen on these modern American "citrussy" hops they tend to use in a lot of their pale ales. Or the Aussie "Galaxy" hop. That tastes of pineapple or summat. Wetherspoons were selling a "tropical porter" combining both last year and it was disgusting. Oh, and I'm drinking nowt out of a growler thanks. What's a growler in this context Skank?

What's a growler in this context Skank? A 4 pint beer container according to MainvilleStokie. I onner convinced though. Nor me neither, it'd end up with all sorts of flotsam and jetsom and be dead as a dodo by the end. I'm yet to be fully convinced with the sudden rash of citrusy beers. I first had a Lemon Ale one summer in The Jovial Forresters, it was great, perhaps in hindsight as much because the other beers on the night had been poor. It inspired me to concoct 'The Embalmer', a punchy Lemon Ale brewed with lemon balm and honey. More like a mead I suppose. Moreish but lethal and left in the past as an interesting experiment. I had a pint of an English 'trad' Citrus Bitter this summer, it was like lemon washing up liquid flavoured dishwater, terrible. I didn't retain the pint or it's name. Swapped it for a Cider, Aspey's. Not sure it works. I keep having a sample, but rarely go for a pint.

That Sol and lime thing was once quite popular. Keep the flies out yr bottle.

Keep the flies out yr bottle. In fact as I was typing the Citrus beer post I had a niggling doubt, that I had had a good pint of something citrusy fairly recently. Opening post, True Grit.. grapefruity. Maybe it's just best keeping citrus booze as a breakfast drink.

It seems to be a big thing over there differentiating their pales from trad. British types. For me East Kent Goldings and Fuggles are the unmatched pale ale combo.

Nice pint of Revisionist 5.5% Sardinian Bock toneet. Fullsome. No sign of the Abbott's reserve so far. Need to spread me beer wings.
Worrying seasonal talk of Sherry, Egg Nog, Snowballs, glace cherries and so forth...
Always been keen on a brandy schnapp.

I went to 'The Final Whistle' in Southwell this summer. It was by far the best real ale pub I've been in. Cracking décor & superb ales! This is a picture of the beer garden

I like one called Sneck Lifter. I could do with one, now! Liquid liquorice. Not sure what to make of it.. good as a solo pint but a bit sweet and distinctive for a session. If I kick off with Snecklifter I tend to move on to Guiness because normal bitters taste a bit 'thin' afterwards. I believe a 'sneck' is a colloquial word for a latch.

Not been to the Hop Inn. Is it new? What was it previously called? I've drank plenty around Basford/Hartshill in the past but can't think where that is. Think it was called The Prince Albert, it's on Albert Street , not too far from the (Shocking) Titanic Greyhound. They always have top beer on from the likes of Oakham, Marble, Tiny Rebel, Summer Wine, Mallinsons. Top stuff. Greyhound is a decent boozer. I know most of their beers aren't exactly session stuff, but they normally have 3 or 4 guests on.

Where's the Red Stripe on draught please cheesey? My lad has a liking for the canned stuff, he'd probably like that. Sportsman downtown Stockton Brook. Not a big Lager lout but during the summer months the odd pint of Stripe hit the spot. It's a Marston's house, they brought in Draught RS as an alternative to Carling at a similar price. No contest. Perhaps it's a thing across all Marston's pubs. Did you manage to track down the Hoegarde?

Not in Stoke no, I was up for a week just before Xmas but drank very little, just a few pre-game (Palace match) Joules Blonde in The Glebe and a quiz night where I was on Pedigree. Thanks for the RS info, I'll keep an eye out, didn't notice any in the pub I was in for the quiz night, could've missed it.

Had a pleasant pint of Bass at the Black Lion, next to the church. Cheddleton. Last neet. Ryan Shotton's got a hand in it. Smart place now, modified the latrine and everything. Two pints for less than £6.

Not real ale so apologies in advance, I went into the regant pub in fenton the other week. They had a drink called vardys moonshine, served in a jam jar with ice. It comes in three flavours, very fruity with a bit of a punch. Excellent for hot hays, the only problem is it goes down to easily.
