As I begin to write this I can almost hear the howls of derision from certain sections of our supporter base, however I feel pretty strongly about this so I am going to make a suggestion for the Liverpool game. Be interested in your thoughts.
As we know, Steven Gerrard is bringing the curtain down on his career in English football at the Britannia Stadium. Gerrard has been, in my opinion, a fantastic asset not only for his club, for also for his country. Never once eschewing a call up or putting himself or his body first, his England career can be rightly considered in comparison with anyone who has worn the Three Lions. His 114 caps for his country is testament to his enduring capability in the middle of midfield for England, and in my adult lifetime of watching the game only Paul Scholes can be considered his equal.
But in my opinion, Gerrard stands for more than that, and that is why it is my hope that Stoke fans will put aside personal pettiness and recognise his other attributes. As Stoke City supporters, there are few attributes that we value more than loyalty, and in this regard Gerrard stands completely alone. He has, on far more occasions than Liverpool Football Club should have found themselves, been the single glimmer of light, the only catalyst for the moderate success the club has enjoyed (relative to it's standing) over the past 20 years. In 2005, he single handedly dragged them back into a Champions League Final they had no right to be in, based solely on his work ethic and appetite to succeed. Gerrard had ample opportunity to move during the 2000's, move to bigger clubs, better clubs, clubs that could (shudder…) "match his ambition". He didn't. He stayed loyal and faithful to the city he was raised in. And this, more than anything else, makes him worthy of particular praise.
So, to my suggestion. I'm not asking us to sing "you'll never walk alone", or "there's only one Steven Gerrard". What I feel is the right thing to do is a minute's applause in the 8th minute to acknowledge and pay respect to the loyalty and career of an exceptional sportsman. Everywhere he's been this year, they've sung that fucking song about him falling over. Everywhere. I have been brought up on the belief that Stoke fans are different from the rest, cut from a different cloth. We are supporters who recognise and reward achievement, but more importantly character. Gerrard has shown it in spades and, in the eyes of the world, we have a unique opportunity to respect that, and show to a watching world what separates Stoke City from the rest of the flock.
Thanks for reading.

To be fair, I don't see any reason for us to "detest" Steven Gerrard - he hasn't exactly wronged us, or England! He's certainly no John Terry!! Perhaps a healthy balance of good old fashioned ribbing and a little respect would be a good idea - say 90:10 ratio? Unfortunately the years of the Sky Sports Gerrard jizzfest has made it difficult for me to feel anything but boredom for this whole departure..

I'll be happy to join in the chant of "steven Gerrard - he hits like a girl" complete with all the actions in the 8th minute - or at any other time in the match! It usually seems to annoy him - which is good!

Do you think that Gerrard will start the game?
I agree that we should show some respect as he starts and leaves the pitch
I am expecting some "teasing " when it comes to our singing
Even more, I'm looking forward to seeing Bojan at the final match - somehow I think he'll get a wonderful reception
Once the fuss is over I'll be acknowledging one of our own loyal players bringing the curtain down on his career in English football.
One Thomas Sorensen

Obviously as a Spurs fan you can tell me to mind my own business but here is my two penn'orth. Stoke fans have always struck me as being a top crowd. I dont just mean when i have seen them at Spurs or other London grounds but generally.
Steve Gerrard has been an incredible player in my book. We all know Liverpool fans are the most cringeworthy maudlin bunch of twats you'll ever meet but it would really reflect well on Stoke to give him a decent farewell.

The only reason he 'Stayed loyal to his city' is because his family was threatened by gangsters. Otherwise he would have been at Chelsea before you could say 'Greedy scouse twat'
Flattered to deceive for his country and looked lost when Alonso left. Good player, but overhyped! Forgive me if I don't join the jizzfest

One of the Premier League's least annoying "stars" - compared with the likes of Suarez, Fibreglass, Cole, Terry, etc. The display at Istanbul was tremendous - one man grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck and getting the rest of the team "onside" and back in it. That said, the media frenzy before tomorrow's game will be sickening - and will probably carry (spiralling) on 'til next week unless SG comes out and says upfront that he won't be playing in it. If he does then I'll applaud at the end - as long as he remembers it's at Stoke and is therefore about Stoke fans having the chance to salute OUR players at the last game of the season*. *If he plays, I predict an awful lot of man-marking on him as the clock approaches full time!

I'm all for it Vestan ...on two counts , one it's quite a classy show of respect in honouring a player of Gerrards standing in the World .....but secondly ,by doing it in the eighth minute ,it will guarantee that Liverpool will have plenty of time to stand back, roll over and reciprocate our gesture by giving us an uncontested three points

It's at another club's ground and our own players will be waiting to do their own end of season lap. A polite stroll to the centre circle and applauding all 4 sides of the ground before heading to the tunnel would be OK in most people's eyes I guess. "The big farewell photo-op" is tomorrow at Anfield really.

I certainly don't detest him in any way.
He's probably the most likeable big-name English footballer we've seen for a while.
I think he's been a tad over-rated, but he's been a wholehearted and very talented player.
It seems fairly likely he would've jumped ship to Chelsea if outside forces wouldn't have made it clear that wasn't a good idea *cough* *cough*
So you've got to conclude the whole 'loyalty' angle is a bit overplayed, especially when you're on £150k-a-week.
I certainly don't think it'd be a good idea to start booing him or any bollocks like that on the last day. We really would come across as neanderthal. I'll probably give him a polite golf clap at some point.

I think it will be a moot point anyway
His farewell will be tomorrow, I dont think Brenda will play him at Stoke, he will let him take the adulation of the Kop instead to say goodbye with what they will hope is a routine win against Palace at home.
Better that than the ignomy of Stoke fans baiting him for 90 minutes, at a difficult away game that Stoke will hopefully win given they have nowt to play for either, and a send off with a slightly bitter taste.
For reference if he did play I would give him the treatment during the game, but in a light hearted way, the nasty stuff isnt whats required on that day.
But at the end I would clap him off and show respect for his achievements - 17 years at a single club, 3 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, a Champions League (that he dragged his club to win), a UEFA cup, a Super Cup etc - and pulled Liverpool back into contention in the league a few times but fell (literally last season ;-) ) just short of winning a league title.

Sorry but Gerrard has done NOTHING for English football whatsoever. He's done plenty for Liverpool and they can laud him as much as they want.
As for always making himself available, where was he in Japan? His so-called injury was nothing, especially when others were playing with broken bones. Resting up for Liverpool.
As for the CL final, bringing on Dietmar Hamann was the telling factor.

Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, Is better thank Frank Lampard, At passing to Demba Ba, Steve Gerrard, Gerrard
IF he plays, he'll get dogs abuse from me during the game, just like any opposition player....maybe even slightly more, but when he is inevitably subbed off, I will rise to my feet and give him a round of applause as he leaves the field.
He's single handedly carried Liverpool & England at times over the years. He's been a great servant to the english game.
We need to show our own appreciation for Wilko & Sorro during the game, make sure they leave knowing just how grateful we have been for their service.
I'd bring Wilko on and play him up front for the last ten regardless of the score.......if Wilko scores, we're on the pitch!
