Obviously as a Spurs fan you can tell me to mind my own business but here is my two penn'orth. Stoke fans have always struck me as being a top crowd. I dont just mean when i have seen them at Spurs or other London grounds but generally. Steve Gerrard has been an incredible player in my book. We all know Liverpool fans are the most cringeworthy maudlin bunch of twats you'll ever meet but it would really reflect well on Stoke to give him a decent farewell. Mind your own business. Psycophant

Can't see what's so wrong with clapping him onto and off the pitch and giving him and the rest of Liverpool's team and supporters pelters during the game.
The looking after Ryan after the Ramsey tackle swings it for me. He went out of his way to look after him in his first England squad call up. Tone even made a point of it on Ryan's return to stoke.
Not rocket science for me.

If Gerrard is targeted with abuse surpassing what is usually given to opposition players, we as a fan base will look embarrassingly small time. It will stink of jealousy and a lack of brain cells. Neither team will have anything to play for and Gerrard is a completely inoffensive player. There is no excuse to target him, and I hope the majority will clap him off. Anyone planning on giving him special abuse purely because it's his last game, it won't look funny, it won't look 'ard, it will look sad, it will look stubborn, it will look small-time, and it will paint the picture that all we get a buzz from in football is being complete cocks. That's exactly how I see it. Those who are slating him fall into one of three categories. Trying be clever, trying be hard, trying be funny. No doubt they will come up with others to deny it.

As I begin to write this I can almost hear the howls of derision from certain sections of our supporter base, however I feel pretty strongly about this so I am going to make a suggestion for the Liverpool game. Be interested in your thoughts. As we know, Steven Gerrard is bringing the curtain down on his career in English football at the Britannia Stadium. Gerrard has been, in my opinion, a fantastic asset not only for his club, for also for his country. Never once eschewing a call up or putting himself or his body first, his England career can be rightly considered in comparison with anyone who has worn the Three Lions. His 114 caps for his country is testament to his enduring capability in the middle of midfield for England, and in my adult lifetime of watching the game only Paul Scholes can be considered his equal. But in my opinion, Gerrard stands for more than that, and that is why it is my hope that Stoke fans will put aside personal pettiness and recognise his other attributes. As Stoke City supporters, there are few attributes that we value more than loyalty, and in this regard Gerrard stands completely alone. He has, on far more occasions than Liverpool Football Club should have found themselves, been the single glimmer of light, the only catalyst for the moderate success the club has enjoyed (relative to it's standing) over the past 20 years. In 2005, he single handedly dragged them back into a Champions League Final they had no right to be in, based solely on his work ethic and appetite to succeed. Gerrard had ample opportunity to move during the 2000's, move to bigger clubs, better clubs, clubs that could (shudder…) "match his ambition". He didn't. He stayed loyal and faithful to the city he was raised in. And this, more than anything else, makes him worthy of particular praise. So, to my suggestion. I'm not asking us to sing "you'll never walk alone", or "there's only one Steven Gerrard". What I feel is the right thing to do is a minute's applause in the 8th minute to acknowledge and pay respect to the loyalty and career of an exceptional sportsman. Everywhere he's been this year, they've sung that fucking song about him falling over. Everywhere. I have been brought up on the belief that Stoke fans are different from the rest, cut from a different cloth. We are supporters who recognise and reward achievement, but more importantly character. Gerrard has shown it in spades and, in the eyes of the world, we have a unique opportunity to respect that, and show to a watching world what separates Stoke City from the rest of the flock. Thanks for reading.

I don't think he'll play at Stoke. I can't see him getting the send off here that the media wants.

Reported as his last game today Funny for all those who have paid hundreds? That is mad...I was literally just about to post the same question. I think he will, as it will be a goodbye to travelling fans that maybe do not go to home games, I think he will start and maybe get taken off in 2nd half, lot depends on whether or not they need points, as Brenda rarely concedes to emotion in setting out his team. Though having said that, if they win today then next weekend is irrelevant as 5th spot secured, and cant get 4th...

I said on another thread, if there is still a possibility of top 4 then I think he will play! As a club the top 4 is more important than sentiment! At the end of the day he is not retiring he is moving on and I wouldn't rule out him being back at Liverpool on loan in the close MLS season!

I don't really get the hatred for Gerrard, he's been a decent player.
However, on the day, he's playing for our opposition. No different to any other game. I'm not cheering or supporting the opposition in ANY way. And that's that.

If it was a Stoke player going to Anfield in similar circumstances they would give him a standing ovation when he leaves the field and you lot would be fucking rabid if they didn't He's done absolutely nothing to SCFC to justify the hatred being vented towards him by sections on here and indeed just ask Ryan Shawcross who was the player to take him to one side after he got called up for England on the day of the Ramsey incident Always liked Gerrard from beiong younger when Stoke weren't in the Premier League really. He's always given his all for Liverpool and while he may have been threatened when he tried to leave that one time he has still never made an appearance for club or country where he hasn't given his all and that's all any football fan can ask of any player. Sure he unfortunately plays for those bin dipping scumbags but he as an individual player is a footballer who I only attribute Paul Scholes to be his better as far as players I've ever seen play. (And Bojan of course ) I agree with all that. I don't think he will even play but if he does come on or go off or appear at the final whistle I will clap him away with the same respect I would one of Stoke's players leaving, albeit my round of applause for the Stoke squad will be massive in comparison as they have been brilliant this year and I've enjoyed watching us play more this year than I have any year in the premier league for actual quality of football. Just wish Gerrard would have retired gracefully instead of getting the payday in the US. Edit: While the game is being played however, I will be 1005 foxused on supporting Stoke as always, and will gladly participate in the usual ribbing as any player must expect, after all the "He hits like a girl" is right up there with "Shaun Wright Phillips - John Terry's your dad" for making me piss myself lol.

I was feeling quite charitable towards Gerrard, but having a new thread on him every single day since some point in March has significantly soured my opinion.
For what it's worth, I'd applaud him off if he was substituted, but that's as far as any love in should go. If someone in the Stoke end tries to start a minute's applause in the 8th minute than I hope it's quickly drowned out by 'he hits like a girl' and 'same old Gerrard, shit for England'. It's pretty much what I'd hope for from opposition supporters if one of our players was retiring after a long spell at the club.

1 minutes booing on 8 minutes, then a polite applause at the end of the match (if he plays). If I were a gambling man though I'd be rushing down the bookies and having a flutter on Gerrard scoring from a penalty, you can just see it happening, hopefully we'll be 3-0 up by then and it'll be on the 89th minute. Gouranga.

Do you think that Gerrard will start the game? I agree that we should show some respect as he starts and leaves the pitch I am expecting some "teasing " when it comes to our singing Even more, I'm looking forward to seeing Bojan at the final match - somehow I think he'll get a wonderful reception Once the fuss is over I'll be acknowledging one of our own loyal players bringing the curtain down on his career in English football. One Thomas Sorensen Absolutely. He is one of ours, Gerrard isn't. Simple as. I'm not suggesting we should give him dogs abuse, but I'm buggered if we should fawn over him either. They'll be doing enough of that on the radio and telly
