It doesn't matter what Cook scores looks like he's untouchable with regards to the captaincy.

Think he'll get the summer. I would of given it too Root. I do kind of see the logic in leaving it with Cook to be honest, re-evaluate after the summer. Australia didn't panic in 2013 after they've been battered in India 4-0 and the lost 3-0 to us, they stuck with Clarke and reaped the rewards. Giving Root the captaincy in two series we could realistically lose would lead to questions about his ability to lead and would probably affect his form, and being as though he's the lynchpin I don't think we can afford that.

Oops not a great start. Love watching Bell but he shouldn't be guaranteed his place on current form.
I actually stuck a tenner on New Zealand to win the series 2-0 this morning as the odds were too good to ignore, people talk about English conditions but that Kiwi bowling attack looks perfect as far as I'm concerned.
Got a feeling Stokes and/or Buttler are going to step up to the mark here, they need to as can't keep relying on Root to get us out of the shit....

That's fair enough , but it old ground that's been picked over too many times recently .....there isn't another candidate at the moment excepting Root , I wouldn't want to saddle him with it just yet , he's going to get the job before much longer anyway .

Being fair mate, Bell copped a right one this morning, would have got anyone. But I agree with there are questions over his form long term but he's had that over his head his whole career and usually comes out better for it. As for your bet, you're in with a very good chance....

Very true about Bell, but in his defence that was a good delivery mate .....even so he perhaps could have played it a little better .

Just seen it back mate it was a belter, he seems to have got into a rut where he either scores next to nothing or a big score. Some of the shots he gets out to whilst being attacking in nature are actually pretty stupid for a player of his intelligence, if anyone can build an innings steadily it's Bell......

One of the most pointless exposition of stats from from Gower there. Was in a nutshell "you don't win many from 30-4"

Agreed - for better or worse Cook will be captain for the summer. He's going to be under some intense pressure though. Particularly if things go badly in this series - for him personally as well as for the side. Of course, this morning has been a bad one so far for us but there is a long way to go. Once again we are looking at the youngsters to get us out of a hole - but we should note our team is full of relatively inexperienced players just now - something the widely derided Moores deserves some credit for. Interesting that Ward made the final 11. Makes a mockery of the selection policy in the Windies though. What was the point in persisting with Stokes and Jordan throughout that series only to drop it for this game. It's the right decision, but should have been made after the first test in Antigua.

You have a point there .....it does make me wonder if it's a legacy of the pressure he's been under to score quickly in limited overs cricket ...it should not be of course , but he never used to be so loose with some of his shot selection . Perhaps it's just me looking for a reason when all it is is just poor judgement on his part ?

The nature of the game indeed my friend. Last time they were here NZ needed just over 200 over two days and found themselves 29-6!
