I think he's always wanted to step up and who can blame him? Key now is that we get a genuine competitor in to back up/contest the shirt with Butland. Isn't that this Danish geezer we're supposed to be signing?

Bang on. I think this is where Southampton have done well; selling their stars at the right time. It's a hard call to make but I think we've seriously messed up here. Was Butland ready to take Asmir's place last summer? Some are questioning if he is now. Tough one for the club but they did the right thing keeping him. Sorensen could have been our number one until Butland was ready? To be honest, we don't even know if we've had any serious bids for him in recent years (apart from Chelsea when Asmir refused to play against Shrewsbury)

£8 Million is the John Percy view of his value, not the price Stoke have stated. It is also pure paper talk concerning break down of negotiations and Beggo wanting to be Stoke's highest paid player. If memory serves me right, the only talk from the club, or Beggo, has been of leaving any discussion until the season is over. Until I hear it from the club or Beggo, I'll ignore it like 90% of the crap that gets printed in the papers concerning football. I agree to a point, but John Percy is very rarely wrong in what he reports. I believe Beggo has played his last game for us and will be off in the summer for 6 to 8 million.

New signing could. Many various options could have been contemplated. Ultimately, no one knows if a player is ready until they are given the chance. The difference is potentially worth 7m to the club now + the high wages. For me it was a no brainer to cash in on the very high stock Asmir had developed with his excellent displays last season and before.

Last season he was quoted at about 17m and that frightened off the likes of Liverpool etc. This season he's thrown it in his own net and the price is now down to a price that he can pick and choose.
Also we are known as cheap, and if he was at a Southampton or Newcastle they would be bidding around 12m.

He probably deserves to be our best paid player? Or at least on a par? Not on this seasons form he doesn't.

I couldn't give a shit what he's done.

If Percy is right that we've been in talks with him all season that might explain why his form hasn't been as good as previous seasons. Thing is if he'd knuckled down and continued his good form the big clubs would come in for him.As it is I can't see him getting a move to the likes of Real Mardrid or Barca or Bayern or any of the leading European clubs. For 1 thing his distribution is pretty shocking. He's taken a step back this season that's for sure

I forgot we paid £3.25 million for him in the first place, effectively you'd have to knock that off anything we get for Bego.

Not the first time he's reportedly declared himself 'unavailable' on a match day. If N'Zonzi had done the same, people would be burning effigies. We'll be in good hands with Butland, who might within 3/4 years prove to be a better keeper overall. Asmir potentially wants out, is willing to let the club down to prove a point, take £6m now, or risk losing him for free (wouldn't that be the ultimate two-fingers??) Butland cannot do any worse than Asmir has this season, that's for sure.

I still want both of them in the side if they're willing to sign new deals and from the report (if he's right, he usually is) there is a deal to be done. And Butland could be a lot worse.

8 mil would be fine, even with a couple of years on his contract I couldn't see us getting more than 12 for him.

Serves us right for taking this long to sort it out. Sorry but your wrong. If we have been in talks all season and Beggo is demanding to be the clubs top earner, then that would be holding the club to ransom. He has been a bit iffy this season and spitting his dummy out with Butland taking his place, i say thank you for your contribution and good luck on your new adventure. Onwards and upwards.

He probably deserves to be our best paid player? Or at least on a par? Agreed, Bego should be at least in top but the problem is how much he's asking for... 50k, 80k, 100k, 120k? It's hard to tell. Perhaps Sparky is happy to let him go?

Good luck to Bego if he goes, he has generally been good for Stoke. I think £8 million is cheap for a keeper of his quality and would prefer it if he stayed, but everyone has their price and if the club and he are too far apart on agreeing wages then it's only going to end one way.

I agree. Considers it beneath his dignity to sit on the bench, while Butland is given a try out, which was Hughes's plan all along. Thanks a lot and see you later.

Do we really want him if he's turning into a drama queen , refusing to play for your club or sit on the bench is poor IMO , other senior players get benched from time to time as do keepers such as hart for instance

Who have we sold for mega bucks ever? Is tuncay the highest? I bet there's half the championship who have higher fees sold. You go in for an average Southampton player and the bidding starts at 10m.
