If Bego is in talks with Roma (as reports suggest) then, presumably we would have given permission for him to do so. He isn't in the last 6 months of his contract so our permission is required for any approach.

If he is not signing an extension at Stoke then we have no choice but to do our best to get as much as possible for him and that means granting permission for him to talk to other clubs.

Gutted the contract situation means we won't get the mega bucks we all expected for him. Surely still looking somewhere between £8-10m though?

From F365 rumours page, re: De Gea
"Spanish newspaper MARCA claim that a fee of £18m has been agreed between Madrid and Manchester United after the latter accepted that his heart is in Spain. The report claims that his wage will be £85,000 a week, less than half of what United were reportedly offering."

As much as we can get, we won't let this ride beyond this window. He either goes or he cannot find the club he wants then he has to sign a new deal at Stoke. The club have covered both outcomes with the new Danish keeper. If Asmir stays then Butland will be loaned out to another premier league club to keep his training up, if Asmir goes Jack is our number one. Butland only signed his new deal if he was guaranteed first team premier league games, whether that's at Stoke or on loan at a premier league side

If Stoke aren't getting a penny for him then what have they got to lose? We won't see the same Begovic and after Xmas all he would be interested in is avoiding injury. We have an able deputy in Butland. He'd be daft not to sign a deal if he can't find the club he wants.

Plenty of players run their contracts down - we signed Diouf last summer and we're trying to sign Kono now, both their individual manager's played them right until the end of their deals.

I take your point Paul but did their clubs have top class individuals to replace them with? It's a bit different with our GK situation where we have a young international screaming to be played. My guess is, if Bego stays but won't sign a new contract...he'd be on the bench. I don't KNOW that of course but I'd guess we're unlikely to go with a keeper who wants to leave and, in the process, piss off a budding international who will be staying.

If Beggo stays with one year left then I would expect him to be nbr 2. The only way you'd play him is if you had nothing equal or better. In Butland we have an adequate replacement who will grow with experience.
Saying that, I can only see Beggo either extending his contract or being sold. I don't think the club will accept losing him for nothing next year.

I don't think the club will accept losing him for nothing next year. Spot on. Jack's three games at the end of the season suggests he is ready. If Bego is going to run down his contract it would make much more sense to play Jack as first choice. That way we only piss off Bego (who wants to leave anyway) rather than pissing off Jack who, hopefully will be with us for years to come and who has shown good faith to sign a new contract when he could have pissed us about and agitated for a move. It seems to me that Bego has painted himself into a corner here - and he's an intelligent enough bloke to have known what he was doing.

I think Bego is a fantastic goalkeeper, but Jack's time as NO 1 has come! He deserves to play to fulfill his talent! Luxury problem!

I think the PR bloke is being sensible - the "co hosting" would turn into a constant barrage of questions designed to get him to spill the beans and (rightly) he should be keeping his trap shut until a move has been agreed by all parties.

I always thought he would move to where he can commute from Newcastle, as his Mrs. Is heavily into horses and dressage and she trains in the area and her horses are based here. He has done a good job for us and if he goes to the shit good luck to him and a few quid for Stoke. Butland can step up and we can move on.

I find it amazing that there isn't a single word on this thread about the defence that he's been playing behind. I'd be fucking jittery playing behind the ever changing back four this season, and especially playing behind Wollscheid. I can't remember a Stoke keeper playing with so many cock ups happening in front of him, especially from set pieces. Sort the back four out and you'll have the proper Bego back. OS. To a certain extent you raise a very valid point. However, most of Begovic's errors that I can think of this season have been basic bad goalkeeping, lapses in concentration that can only be blamed on him. He is still showing us glimpses of his superb talent, but is playing nowhere near the levels that he is capable of regardless of how unsettled the defence has been in front of him. He would benefit from a spell out of the team in my opinion.

You are right there I think,as all they have been on about this week is what will happen when De Gea moves. If this is the case do not think they will be inviting back as this would be the second time he has done it at short notice.
