Isn't it great watching live test cricket at 10.00 pm? One of several reasons I love tours of the Windies! Yes it's the best overseas series for viewing in England .....the great shame is that it's now only a three Test series .

Well worth the investment!

Well worth the investment! I just floated the idea of a third TV in the lounge (we have one for the Xbox's/PS3 already)...and it didn't go down too well! I guess it's just the laptop then

When I took her to Wembley many years ago, she just sat there reading a book during the Auto-Windshield Trophy!

That could be the vital wicket .....well bowled Joe Absolutely mate. I was just typing that I thought the Windies wouldn't hang around long after Chanderpaul went, and he's given out. Can't see it going through to tea now.

Just two slips and a gully with a forward short leg with the second new ball for Broad. But an extra slip for Anderson.
Why!

Broad back into the attack - and bowls an over of 80 mph drivel. Where has the "enforcer" gone. This is fast medium dross Stuart. At the moment, your jacket is on a shoogly peg!

Pace attack is a worry at the moment. Jordan and Stokes have promise but aren't taking wickets and Broad is nowhere near his sharpest. If it's a similar pitch next test I'd bring Rashid in for Tredwell and Moeen for Jordan. Lyth for Trott would be a shout as well. England selectors being as conservative as they are they'll probably just bring in Moeen for Tredwell and that wil be that......

It promises to be the same type of pitch for the next Test , all pitches are broadly similar in the West Indies these days, you really need a bowler who gets it down at 90 mph plus to make any impression...we just don't really have anyone of that pace, all our lads are roughly the same wherein lies a problem. I agree , I would be tempted to give Rashid ago just as something different alongside Moeen Ali, a shame for Tredwell who bowled pretty well though .

I think yesterday showed us why Treadwell hasnt played much test cricket. Truth is - he isn't even a very good county spinner. He is playing by default. The selectors lack the imagination to pick someone else. Root looked more dangerous. I'd certainly put Ali in ahead of Tredwell. But I'd also pick Rashid. Meaning Trott also goes with Ali opening. Don't see why we should be any more indulgent with Trott than Tredwell. I think there is also a problem with the seamers we need to consider. Neither Stokes or Jordan look good enough as a third seamer - both are OK as a 4th seamer though. Problem is we need a third seamer! One of those two has to go. From the Windies perspective - fantastic effort from Jason Holder. Just brilliant. I was delighted he got his ton. Thought he conducted himself superbly in a difficult gig as captain of the Windies in the WC. Certainly rose to the challenge better than our man did in more trying circumstances - I remember a dreadful sulk from Sammy he had to deal with after he took him off after bowling one over in the WC. A young man with some serious talent and a good head on his shoulders. If the Windies can find a few more like that they may start to regain some of their lost glory. And that would be great!

Tredwell playing shows how thin on the ground we are for spin bowling......Rashid should have a chance in my view , Moeen has done well over the last year and did well with the ball against Indiia last summer ( I think India were very guilty of underestimating him ,which definitely contributed to his success ) I still don't see him as a long term front line spinner in Tests .....as for his batting ,I'm happy to see him at the top of the order in limited overs cricket, but perhaps only as a short term fix in Test Cricket, he has definate problems with his technique in that reguard ' but so has Trott ,albeit a different kind of problem....if Trott is left out to accommodate Moeen it would once again be harsh on Lythe who deserves a chance purely because of the amount of runs he's scored in county cricket ....it's a tough game .

Tough decisions indeed! Agree with you about the Indian's treating Ali with not enough respect and him benefiting from that. Same I reckon goes for Treadwell in the first innings in this game. Spinners picking up wickets in a first innings has to be considered a bonus. It's the second innings when you look to them to really do their stuff; particularly on a 5th day pitch. Even one as lifeless as that one in Antigua. Interesting, as far as alternatives go, that Treadwell isn't even first choice for his county. They've opted for a 23 year old Englishman. Lythe certainly deserves a shot. Bring him in for Trott and Ali for Treadwell would mean Ali at #6 and Stokes moving down to #8 which I reckon is a better place for him. Butler should not be lower than #7. I'd still like to see Rashid in though. On these pitches we need variety so that means Jordan misses out. But I don't reckon Stokes is good enough as a third seamer so I'd consider dropping him for Plunkett or Wood. Probably the former. So this for the second test... Cook Lythe Ballance Bell Root Ali Butler Rashid Plunkett Broad Anderson I reckon this is a side with a better chance of winning this series than the one we played in the first test.

Have to say I agree with pretty much everything. Tredwell just isn't a Test match spinner. He was comfortably out bowled by Root yesterday - and with a decent attacking spinner we would have had a much better chance of winning.
I'd like to see the combination of an off spinner and a leg spinner working in tandem with Ali and Rashid. We need to be encouraging our spinners - and not potentially have them on their second tour without contributing (if they don't play Rashid).
Should they drop Trott? It would be out of character of this England setup. I think they'll give him the second test and bring Lythe in for the final test if he fails again. They'll probably replace Tradwell with Ali (because they have to play Ali after flying him out there don't they?). But they need to be braver - but I doubt they will.
