Paul Downton no longer Managing Director of the ECB. It reads like he's been given the elbow ..... No - he was booted out! And quite rightly so. Been a right clown. But he is the fall guy that allows Moores to continue. Which is a shame. Both should have gone for their parts in both the WC fiasco and the preparation leading up to it. Sadly, I'm not sure the new broom (ie the new ECB Chair) is much of an improvement; slagging off the Windies and calling for 4 day tests is not an auspicious beginning. Sounds like someone who has yet to manage to coordinate his brain with his mouth. But then again, he us from Yorkshire, which is a mitigating factor.

It's the same as football too many dinosaurs running the show, our one day game is years behind the rest and we seem to put all our eggs in the test arena but even then we still lag from the rest in my opinion.

I'm not sure that's correct reguarding Test Cricket , notwithstanding the last Ashes series we have a pretty decent record over the last few years , we beat India convincingly last summer and really should have beaten Sri Lanka as well .

Wow - the St Kitts Invitational XI put on a better show today in the second warm up game reaching 303-9; major contributors JM Bairstow with 98 and JE Root unbeaten on 87. Earlier in the innings IJL Trott, opening, fell for a duck, while GS Ballance coming in at 3 scored just 17.
Yes - you've guessed it. England are playing with themselves. Inspired by their coach!

This really is pathetic preparation for a test series isn't it? Talk about a half arsed warm up. If they don't do well in the series (which they should easily win?) then heads must roll for this.

It seems quite unusual preparation. If they win, all will be forgotten; if they lose it certainly won't! Big risk in theory for the England management, but reduced somewhat because of the number of Windies players over at the IPL just now.

First test starts tomorrow - so timely that KP starts his campaign for reselection with a big hundred for Surrey. Ok it was against a bunch of students, but 170 is still a decent score. Certainly gets him off in the right foot.
No additional pressure then on the England team in Antigua!

Off we go. Tredwell and Jordan in. Surprised that they've not gone for Rashid.
Lost the toss and batting.
Cooky needs a good start, a low score would heap the pressure on him.

Ballance gone chasing a wide one outside his off stump. Poor shot.
Are they really prepared for a test series given what must have been the most half arsed set of warm up matches in recent test history.
Off for rain...

That was bloody dreadful. Ballance fishing at everything outside off stump, Trott being picked over in form Adam Lyth, downright inept. Work to do gentlemen.

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear!
It certainly is a poor start - but it's just the first innings of the series. The problem is it all seems so inevitable (odd selections / bizarre preparation), but now is not the time to judge. We can do that properly later in the series. But Cook and Trott will both be hugely disappointed not to have got off to a good start. As I reckon we all are; we desperately need our senior players to deliver. Let's hope Root and Bell knuckle down because after these two we are into the new boys. Big ask of them to recover if we lose another quick wicket or two.

As you say, this is vital.
