Ok. Stat of the day time.
Those Bangladeshi openers did set a test record today - the highest test opening partnership ever... for a second innings. 312 runs.
Congrats.

Definitely the Windies day. And a poor one from England with the bat. I reckon six of the seven wickets we lost were primarily down to poor cricket from England. Aside from Balance, a combination of bad technique (Trott), poor judgement (Cook in running out Ali) and sloppy shots (the rest) cost us today. Great to see Cook get his ton. And maybe that will be the lasting memory of this game. Very disappointed that he got out at the end. Let's hope for some fireworks tomorrow from Butler and Jordan. Need to get the score well past 300 which looks a tall order now. But not impossible. I think 300 ish would be a useful score on that pitch , it's clearly not playing as well as people thought , extremely slow hence the low scoring rate yesterday , considerable signs that it may spin significantly as the game progresses albeit slowly.....we may wish that we had taken a gamble in leaving a seamer out ( Jordan for me ) and playing Rashid , although I suppose that was unlikely ever to happen . It's hard to judge the pitch when do many of our top batsmen threw their wickets away! When Cook and Ali were together it looked fine. Ali looked class in a glass. So elegant. Could almost be Gower - if it wasnt for that beard! Cook of course was Cook: obdurate. I think that was why the scoring rate was so slow. No way was he giving up this chance for a ton, and as wickets tumbled around him, he dug in even more. Rightly so. Interesting to see the Windies currently have a similar 4th wicket partnership developing nicely with the similarly determined oldie, Shiv, batting with the expansive youngster, Blackwood. Edit; well that did the trick. Root just got rid of Chanderpaul!

There's been plenty of evidence on the first day that the pitch could be difficult , it's definitely slow , some variable bounce ,the ball is going through the top on too many occasions for a pitch only on second day.....an inordinate amount of turn this early on ? I haven't seen this afternoons play , but apparently our spinners ( sic) have been awful !....no disrespect Moeen, but oh for a front line spinner . Even on a less than perfect pitch ,if two decent players get in as they often do, they make it look easier than it is ....don't see this going the distance at the moment .

Learning quite a big in this test - but not sure where it takes us! That said - it looks like it could be an exciting couple if days ahead. I'm hoping that Blackwood goes for it after tea and gets the Windies closer to our total. Then, we get a really interesting period of play when England come out to bat again. I wouldn't put it past Trott to do really well. Mainly because there is no pressure on him.

Well from Trott's and the team's point of view that would be marvellous , it would be nice for him to get a ton if he's to finish his career at this level, not sure it would be enough to earn him a stay of execution unless it was a really big one .

Rubbish from Taylor though. 3 balls full out side off then instead of a short one at his chest he throws up another full one but this time on his legs. Trott may have his problems but over pitched deliveries on his pads he can deal with in his sleep. If I was the Windies skipper I'd be fuming!

This test match has been bizarre in terms of bowling, some absolute filth has been thrown down yet so many wickets have fallen. There's bad execution and there's bad thinking. Taylor has just bowled another over of full pitched deliveries against Trott. This goes down as bad thinking. Actually brain dead thinking. Keep on like this and Trott's confidence will build and he will start to sort out his issues with short bowling which is as much in his head as his technique. Stupid cricket does my head in!

Bugger - Trott out missing out on his trademark push into the onside. Bad enough getting out to a weakness, awful getting out messing up something that is your strength.
Very disapointing.
Shame to see a great servant of English cricket bow out like this.

Will he get another chance? Certainly not opening I'd hope.

Ooooo errr Cook gone too.... Oh bum. God my Sky Go connection is struggling. Read that post and then flipped to the stream and to see Cook's wicket fall 'live'. It's so far behind and missing frames on an 80Mb link :-(
