until people have starred in to the abyss they should refrain from commenting, for the good of his family and children any rational person should just wish for his safe return. This. I've had depression and still worked and unless you have experienced it you can have no view. It's like saying 'don't moan about that broken leg you can still run.' It's not rational. That's the whole fucking point i don't know this guy but i hope he gets sorted soon It's vile, a big soggy blanket that you can't shift no matter what you try. It's truly debilitating, and I only suffer with anxiety and mild OCD so I have no idea how people cope with depression.

It's a bastard when it's bad and becoming more common Interestingly, it's not becoming more common. However, people (particularly men) are talking about it more. Breaking down that barrier is probably the reason that suicide rates appear to be falling.

His Mrs is 6 months pregnant as well FFS
Kinda makes you think how do you bring yourself to either scare your family like that, and your Mrs who's pregnant with your child if he turns up OK... and if it turns out worse then it's even more horrific.
Yes mental health plays a part here but a fucking baby is in the oven not to mention his other 3 kids. Terrible situation from every angle.

My Mrs went through a terrible bout of depression and it was horrific but one thing that got her through it to an extent was our little one and coming off those blasted anti depressant tablets. Just saying... 3 kids already there and a baby on the way, it has to enter his calculations in some form.

I know it doesn't. My Mrs went through a terrible bout of depression and it was horrific but one thing that got her through it to an extent was our little one and coming off those blasted anti depressant tablets. Just saying... 3 kids already there and a baby on the way, it has to enter his calculations in some form. People who attempt suicide despite having young kids often (if not always) have such distorted patterns of thought that they convince themselves that their own children will be better off without them. It's tragic, but that's what happens. Many people who have never suffered from depression struggle to understand what it's like to think like that and yet have a reduced control over it. I suffered from depression when I was in my late teens and early twenties, the entire thing brought on as a side effect of some other medication I was taking at the time. I went from being a regular, straight thinking young man into someone who self-harmed and regularly entertained thoughts of killing himself. Thankfully, the level of control I had over my thoughts and actions was still sufficient to steer myself away from actually acting out any of those thoughts. That was nothing to do with being braver or less selfish than anyone who might have gone all the way and ended their own life, it was just because the chemical imbalance in my brain wasn't severe enough for me to lose all my grip on reality. Once I stopped taking the other tablets, I was able to recover and eventually start thinking straight again.

I hope he gets found safe and well and gets the help he so obviously needs.
The brain is a strange strange thing which makes illness of it all the scarier.
Incidentally, on BBC they make no mention of his playing for Stoke, despite his being captain (if I remember correctly)

People who attempt suicide despite having young kids often (if not always) have such distorted patterns of thought that they convince themselves that their own children will be better off without them. Yes this is an aspect of it that is often overlooked or not even realised by people, let alone understood. You genuinely believe that your friends and family would be better off if you died. You actually, genuinely believe you are doing them a favour by removing the 'burden' you present to them. Too many people don't understand this, and think they are 'selfish' or need to 'snap out of it'. There is still far too much stigma attached to mental health issues. When your leg is broken, people understand. When your brain is broken, not so much.

I like a good piss-take, but depression is off limits for me....My brother has suffered from mental illness since he was a teenager. And I've had a few bouts myself when I was younger.
Great news he's been found safe and well this time...
