Huth at his best wasn't slow. Awkward at times, but not slow. Pisser! Huth was/is a great proper no nonsense defender, but come on, I used to dread us playing a fast striker. He had the turning circle of an inflatable ocean liner but it didn't stop him being a great defender. is terry quick? Cahill? Kompany? Pace is irrelevant when playing players like Stirling and co. It's about positioning and reading the game. Can't wait for ryan and wolly to get 20 games together.

Leaving the Huth debate aside, Wilson is one of our best defenders.
I'd rather have him at CB than Muniesa (who might well replace Whelan in midfield next season).

If you don't have pace then it very much is about positioning and reading the game and for me the jury's still out.

There really is some utter utter rubbish posted on here by people who you'd think should know better. Name me a centre half on the planet who doesn't struggle with raw pace? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Sums this one up I think re Wollscheid.

He had a good game yesterday, long overdue.
He's still a liability, as is Cameron.

I think Hughes has made it quite clear that Shawcross and Wollscheid are his preferred 2. I don't agree with it one bit but he has.

Wilson is decent cover but is a player that really has no 90 min full concentration for the cb position. His leaping ability is worrysome as well at times. Marc reminds me of a midfielder being able to cover in defense for us when needed. Much like Cameron and Nzonzi have been used if Hughes has the need. He is more defensive minded than those two mind you but for being Irish he has some real unlucky moments at the back in extended runs at the position... He has been good as of late while Ryan and Muni are out and should be at CB before anyone else at the moment.

Wilson is better than Muni and Wolfie for me.
Still prefer Huth, but if LMH doesn't want Huthy then we need a new centre back to partner Ryan.
Both right and left back positions are absolutely fine.
We do need a new keeper to cover Bego, as Sorro is leaving and Butland simply isn't good enough.
Whelan will continue to be first choice in midfield for a few years yet and rightly so (he was fantastic yesterday and has had a superb 18 months).
