"But the club want to act quickly with possible renewed interest from the Premier League, where the Colombian-born striker wants to play." Mmmm.

Could we sign him if we wanted to? He was a free agent when the transfer window shut, so surely we can - although he wouldn't be eligible for league games due to the 25 man squad. Surely, if after working with him in training MH still wants him, then we could sign him and loan him out to Wolves. The other scenario is - LMH wasn't impressed, and isn't fussed. Agree with signing him then loan him to Wolves until Christmas. Then review the situation depending on the ACN situation and its implications for the club If we own him rather than loan him, we also have the option to make another loan to add to our squad if need be. What is there to lose here? He would be a Stoke player right now if the work permit application had been successful - even if he was on loan elsewhere to get him up to speed

Express&Star seem to have changed their story around a bit since they published it this morning, when it was a straightforward ' Wolves are going to offer Agudelo a contract'
Seems a lot more vague now.
This line they've added seems rather interesting...
"But with the prospect of such a large investment for what could be a short-term contract if the player wants to leave in January, Wolves face a dilemma."

I still think somehow we might end up signing him.
He seems to really want to sign and from what I've heard feels a lot of gratitude for the way Stoke tried to push the deal through.

What is there to lose here? He would be a Stoke player right now if the work permit application had been successful - even if he was on loan elsewhere to get him up to speed It's going to be a minimum 6 weeks until he gets the Cypriot passport though - which would take us up to December. And we could include him in our 25 from January 1st - unless we feel 6 months in the Championship would help him (which it probably would?) But nothing from the Wolves end is mentioning Stoke at all. Something odd's going on somewhere, and it's hard to know exactly where Wolves fit in. You'd still guess that Agudelo wants Stoke and Stoke want Agudelo - and that's where he'll end up. So a bit mystifying to see where this Wolves thing has sprung up from with him still weeks off playing, and equally interesting to know if Wolves and Stoke are in dialogue about things. The line in the Express&Star hints that Wolves would be wary of paying the bulk of the millions of euros needed to facilitate the Cypriot passport unless he signed a long-term deal - and that just seems obvious common sense. They aren't going to pay the bulk of the fee if he's only going to sign 'til January, are they?

I didn't realise that we are are looking at 6 weeks minimum for the passport to go through - unless of course there are ways to bypass the standard route?
It is also strange that we did not look at this alternative to sign him earlier in the year.
I do hope we get him

If he signs for Wolves then we have obviously moved on from him. I doubt he would sign there if we were genuinely still interested.

Talk about a crazy loophole in the system!
I reckon Greg Dyke will be on the phone to the Cypriot Immigration office shortly. Otherwise expect a lot of South American footballers buying properties in Cyprus!

Reading this article again, not sure how we could allow him to quietly toddle off to Wolves at this stage while appearing credible if the need for a permit is negated by this Cypriot thing? So there must be something going on behind the scenes and you'd have to think he'll be turning up here once he's passported-up - but it's not at all clear where this Wolves 'trial' fits in. Very weird.

Not sure if this has already been speculated, but could it be that the club was using the failed permit as a smokescreen for the fact that their transfer targets had changed by then?

Two questions:
1) Why didn't anybody at our club know about this exploit?
2) Who's paying for his house in Cyprus?

I'm sure if he gets clearance to play over here we'll still sign him. He could just go there until Jan or the summer on a short term contract to keep him fit.
