We might as well get rid, I don't know where we can slot him into within our squad, we need to get numbers down, especially now that we need another wideman and, in my opinion, another out-and-out centre-half to play ALONGSIDE Ryan.

Think we're just holding out for more. Probably set a deadline of 6pm or something, at which point we'll accept the highest bid.

Dumb dumb move to let him go. Heap dog's abuse on me all you Cam haters want. Experienced in the Prem and world stage, can play numerous positions well and provides cover in defense if not first choice.

The arguments behind selling him seem quite sensible to me, regardless of posters own personal views of him. You can think he's the best player in the world, but if he's not going to play then why have him sitting in the reserves costing a wage.

Experienced in the Prem and world stage, can play numerous positions well and provides cover in defense if not first choice. That's the problem though. If he wants to play every week (nothing wrong in that) and the RB berth is taken then DM is his next option. He is quoted as saying if he doesn't get to play in his preferred position then he's off. This was then changed to he will stop and fight for the shirt. He's not going to be first choice for either and maybe the original statement is coming back to haunt him, if he ever said it.

I'm sure that the management has taken every consideration into account. If at the end of the day Hughes doesn't think he needs him, or Cams unhappy with his role, then that doesn't leave many options.

No need to sell - it doesn't look like we will be signing anyone

linkSky’s Keith Downie tells us that Sunderland’s club photographer has been to take photographs of new boy Sebastian Coates in the last hour or so, and promptly gone again. Nicely efficient work from the snapper, and more forensic detail than ever from Sky. Downie also says Sunderland are not, despite reports, in for Stoke’s Geoff Cameron – but he’s dangled the possibiliy of a late move for a forward in front of us so on we hang, in helpless thrall.

I'd be surprised if Bardsley and Whelan play every league and cup game, that will give Cameron a chance. If he's unhappy he should have handed in a formal transfer request, which he already denied doing.

If he stays he will get a chance to prove how good he is in midfield or CB. If he performs Hughes will pick him on merit, or not as the case maybe. Which is something MH has already shown he is not afraid to do. With a lot of competition in the squad now, it's not just Cameron who may be spending a lot of time on the bench.

I'm sure he does want to be in the first team, but that doesn't mean he wants to, or has the power to, force a transfer away while under contract. Whelan, Wilson, crouch, nzonzi, Arnie, Adam, walters, and Huth, have all been dropped from the first team at some point for some time under Hughes but they haven't been moved either. I think the club don't want to sell, and geoff will be in the lineup again when fit and when he is needed.

Well if he does leave, it'll be because the player himself wants to go won't it?
And I wouldn't begrudge him moving on at his age to get a better a chance of first team footy.
I can't see a place for him on the bench at the moment and if he wants to go, then I don't think there's a massive argument to keep him here against his wishes.

MLS official site10:10 am ET -- Stoke City have turned their nose up at multiple offers for US handyman Geoff Cameron, MLSsoccer.com has learned, with Sunderland one of the rejected suitors.
Two English sources have confirmed that the Potters knocked back at least two bids for the 29-year-old over the weekend. Sunderland have been in among the main group of chasers for months now, along with the likes of Hull City and Southampton.
His agent, Gary Mellor, also told MLSsoccer.com last week that none of the interested parties had named a transfer price to compel Stoke into negotiations at that time.

well, he provides cover for three positions. I'd be surprised if he isn't the second choice rb, and having seen him in front of the back four only once I wouldn't rule him out of being second choice for Whelan's role once he comes back from the strain. Centre half he might have too many players ahead of him to get many minutes, but I think he will still appear in plenty of games and make the bench as often as Huth.

lol! If I were him I wouldn't be too worried about a spell on the bench. Just played in a World Cup, and don't have to rush getting any first team action until qualification for 2018. I'd be relaxing like palacios!

If you take the team from Saturday as a first XI.
Then it's hard to see how he would even get onto the bench:
Butland, Sidwell, Muniesa, Huth, Bojan, Arnie, Adam.
That's all the bench places full and we've already got Ireland and Odemwingine out through injury and the possibility of another winger coming is as well.
I guess it's the fear of not even getting on the bench which might make him consider moving on.

Doubtful. It's more likely Hughes' decisions. Move on, Geoff. You deserve better.

i think he and Huth will be rotated at the very least. Just as Hughes did in the first two games.

I don't think they would be - it wouldn't make sense.
Hughes quite clearly doesn't fancy Geoff at centre back, so if he wants a centre back on the bench, he will go for Huth.
If Ryan got injured in a match who do you think Hughes would want to come on, Huth or Cameron - honestly?
And even if you're right and they were rotated, do you think Cameron would be happy not even making the bench every other game?

honestly I think Hughes doesn't rate Huth very highly. Muniesa would be in that conversation as well, so why have Huth or geoff in there at all if Marc m could do the job? He rotated them in the first two matches and he gave geoff a chance at ch in preseason as well as DM in a cup match. I don't think we can say that Hughes clearly doesn't fancy geoff at centre back anymore than anyone other than Wilson or Shawcross. He selected him for the bench against hull, but couldn't against city and villa because he wasn't fit. If Cameron were to put in a transfer request IMO it'd be silly, there are many players at our squad fighting for a place and he is going to get opportunities at three different positions. His situation is no different than players like sidwell, Arnie, muniesa, Huth, and bojan ATM. He doesn't have a place in the first XI, but that's football. You have to seize your opportunities when you have them like Whelan has done when he's been dropped. First and foremost if geoff wants to play he needs to be fit, then he has to force his way back into the team, and the same goes for all the others I mentioned. People were wondering whether crouch and walters would be making the bench this season, and they started the last game and if fit will be playing in more. If geoff can't understand that, he doesn't have the drive to be a premier league footballer and should go back to the states where an MLS club will pay him a bigger salary guarantee him a place in the first XI.
