I don't think they would be - it wouldn't make sense.
Hughes quite clearly doesn't fancy Geoff at centre back, so if he wants a centre back on the bench, he will go for Huth.
If Ryan got injured in a match who do you think Hughes would want to come on, Huth or Cameron - honestly?
And even if you're right and they were rotated, do you think Cameron would be happy not even making the bench every other game?
honestly I think Hughes doesn't rate Huth very highly. Muniesa would be in that conversation as well, so why have Huth or geoff in there at all if Marc m could do the job? He rotated them in the first two matches and he gave geoff a chance at ch in preseason as well as DM in a cup match. I don't think we can say that Hughes clearly doesn't fancy geoff at centre back anymore than anyone other than Wilson or Shawcross. He selected him for the bench against hull, but couldn't against city and villa because he wasn't fit. If Cameron were to put in a transfer request IMO it'd be silly, there are many players at our squad fighting for a place and he is going to get opportunities at three different positions. His situation is no different than players like sidwell, Arnie, muniesa, Huth, and bojan ATM. He doesn't have a place in the first XI, but that's football. You have to seize your opportunities when you have them like Whelan has done when he's been dropped. First and foremost if geoff wants to play he needs to be fit, then he has to force his way back into the team, and the same goes for all the others I mentioned. People were wondering whether crouch and walters would be making the bench this season, and they started the last game and if fit will be playing in more. If geoff can't understand that, he doesn't have the drive to be a premier league footballer and should go back to the states where an MLS club will pay him a bigger salary guarantee him a place in the first XI.
Well as I said before, it's ultimately going to end up being Geoff's shout isn't it?
And I can live with that, no problem.

yes definitely. The club have said that they don't want to sell, and he has said he wants to stay. Things could be very different come January though.

Has he categorically said that he wants to stay - I thought he was hinting that he might have to move?

geoff speaking to the stoke sentinel: "I'm here with Stoke, but there's speculation about this and that. I'm just going to keep doing my job." He added: "I've always done stuff for the team, whatever the team needs and I've had no problem doing that, but I think for my career I need to sort out a position that I'm the best at, most comfortable with and confident at. "We've had a conversation and said if they want the best player I can be, it will be in those two positions they'll get the most out of my ability. "I know there are guys in front of me who the manager trusts and have got great results, so I've got bide my time. "Of course I'm prepared to fight for that place, just like any professional." Said nothing about moving away, or wanting out.

Well I certainly think that could be interpreted in several ways ...

yes, but he has said nothing about wanting a move away, and has denied reports that he put in a transfer request. Like you said, if he's moving it is because he wants out. The club have said they want to keep him, and he said he is biding his time and prepared to fight for a place. What he didn't say was he wanted to leave because he's not first choice at right back anymore, or because he may not even make the bench every week. So, interpret the quotes as you wish. As far as team selection goes there are many players in our squad with a similar situation as Geoff's, but they're also not asking for a move away. I'm sure butland wants first team football, and Huth and muniesa and walters, and the list goes on. Any of them could become regulars with injuries and first team players not performing up to expectations. Geoff has said he understands that's the case, but hasn't said he wants out.

NBCSouthampton are the only team left in the hunt for Cameron’s services, with PST’s source stating Saints have been in talks over the player all day and could make a last-gasp move for the American. PST have contacted both teams, who are staying tight-lipped on any potential deal for the U.S. international.

He's not going to say he wants away is he, he would lose all his bonuses?
When he starts talking about what is 'best for his career' though, it doesn't take a big stretch to see what he's driving at.
Anyway it doesn't appear that an acceptable bid has come in for him, so I guess the discussion is academic anyway.

So then - do we see him breaking into midfield any time soon?

So then - do we see him breaking into midfield any time soon? After his injury in the cup it has certainly set him back. The manager seems prepared to give him a chance there though.

It's going to be hard but good luck to him. I like him as a midfielder and think he'd be more than useful there but just can't see it happening. And that's not down to him but just who's ahead of him.

What would you say, the more disciplined Whelan role, or is he more likely to pop up in N'Zonzi's more dynamic position? I could see him in either to be honest, it'd be nice to see him get a chance.

Can't see him in either tbh unless theres a worrying amount of injuries.

Probably Whelan's. Although I'm in no great rush to see him dropped or replaced.

Unfortunately G Cams only going to be a second choice right back and 4th/5th choice centre back. Only place I can see him getting any game time is possibly at DM next to N'Nonzi but I'm not even sure Hughes see's it that way.
