All we need now is for them to make it a hat trick and fail to make it through the group stages of the Europa League!

Celtic tinpot !!!!.. Celtic ( and Rangers ) are 2 of the worlds biggest clubs and if they came south and got into the premier league and the money involved it would not be long before they would both be challenging for honours I don't think people realise just how big they both are Celtic are bigger than teams like us Sunderland etc etc, but worlds biggest? Nah no way near. As for support their ground is half empty every week.

Last season both teams averaged over 40k fans over the season, Rangers played in Scotlands 3rd tier to get averages of that number means they are whether you like it or not a MASSIVE club.

Thatcher's legacy lives long on this message board; size, for some it would seem, is measured only in pound stirling! Unfortunately for Celtic, that is the only measure that counts in today's football. How did that Sex Pistol's song go "The only notes that really count are the ones that come in wads". Fortunately, for us, thanks to the Premier League and an astute chairman, we are "in the money". We might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

So they aren't one of the biggest clubs in the world are they? I believe their club badges are as recognisable as your Barca's, Real Madrid's, Man Utd's, Liverpools and Juventus' yes but you will disagree. They have fans all over the world. Not sure who Celtic have connections with other than ManUre but Rangers have groups of fans at Chelsea, Ajax and Schalke They are like I said before massive clubs.

Are they massive or are the other clubs in Scotland just really small?
Aside from 40k crowds, what else makes them massive exactly? That they've got expat fans scattered around the globe? That they have some history dating back to when most other European leagues were much weaker than they are today? That they get promoted by Alan Brazil on Talkshite? Or that they're ranked 80th in the Euro club index?

Seriously? Yes, yes I do, I was born in Glasgow (not being biased) and have been to both grounds, you get the same diversity of tourists up there to see the two big clubs as you'll see at Liverpool and Man United down here. Also with my point on the clubs having connections to other clubs, most of these other clubs, are of fairly big stature and well known across Europe. I've traveled the world a bit and you see Celtic and Rangers shirts in many continents. According to your club index Manchester City are bigger than Man United, Liverpool and Juve... Mentalist Kharkiv & Viktoria Plzen are bigger than Inter Milan, Lyon & PSV and apparently we're up there with Marseille and Celtic I couldn't care for Scottish football as it's dire, noncompetitive and the other clubs (bar Aberdeen and the Edinburgh clubs) are very small. Celtic & Rangers are massive, I'm not asking you to agree but I don't think you do realise how big they are

Are Maribor Protestant or Catholic? This would make a big difference if you supported a Glasgow team (or the shite). Most definitely catholic. What I meant by Glasgow should bow its head is that they have one of their so called "great clubs" is penniless & playing teams as good as Congleton town every week and the other team manages to lose to a team from Slovenia which is hardly a hot bed of football talent

I don't that changing any time soon, especially with other leagues (and clubs) becoming more and more dominate globally.

I agree that they have been in a rapid state of decline for years but the names are still as famous IMO. You don't know of one and not the other it's one of and people may argue that it is the most famous footballing rivalry in the world (I'd disagree). In future years they won't be as big but I think we're still some years off before Celtic and Rangers go 'under the radar' or lose their popularity

I moved away when I was young and ditched the poor football and have since become a Stokie. Family are half and half it's mental on old firm day I get pissed when I go back up and they all claim the standard of the football is brilliant, some players would walk into Stoke's team, it annoys me but I know I'm right and last night proved it. A lot of them are deluded and don't have the foggiest Kris bloody Commons is the best player in Scotland apparently, KRIS COMMONS!!!!!! I was actually in Manchester in 2008 when Rangers met Zenit in the UEFA Cup Final, I have never seen scene's like it 100,000 Gers' fans took over that night and it wasn't pretty, I doubt I'll ever witness anything like it again, it was absolute carnage across Manchester

Celtic were woeful last night, they seemed to have aaas of left footed players who kept falling over or running into opponents. They wee once a massive club and still may be bigger than many clubs on some metrics, though not finances as TV money is so low in Scotland but it is hard to argue they are bigger than many Premier League Clubs given the global TV reach of the English game. I suspect Stoke would have a much higher name recognition in Asia today and there are a lot of people in Asia
