Wherever Cook is concerned some people will always want to stick the knife in His tactics have been negative throughout this test series and in the past and that can't be ignored. However, throughout this test, he's been positive, led from the front with the bat and taken the game to India and that is absolutely brilliant to see. Really hope he continues in this sort of vain. He's got to be given praise for his leadership and tactics this test. Cook is who he is , very little will change. In his captaincy style

In his captaincy style Yet he's been the polar opposite in this test so obviously he can change. Someone's had a word with him, you don't go from being naturally negative and cautious to positive without someone having a sit down.

Can't remember who was doubting Moeen? Anyone remind me? If you are referring to my evaluation of him mate , everything I said about him is valid and I've not seen anything different , I never suggested that he was not a good player but doubted the role he has been brought into the team for....I still think we need a a specialist spinner , no way does he come near to filling that position because he isn't a good enough bowler , but he has done a good job as a fill in , but that's not what we need I think you're right mate but he does seem to have a bit of a golden arm at the moment. To paraphrase Napoleon, "I know he's a good spinner, but is he lucky?”

He hasn't really changed that much ....his own confidence has returned with the bat and it's reflecting in his Captaincy , positives breed more positives

I'm not too fussed about the declaration, I think 4 sessions should be enough and on a good batting surface I think he just wanted to be sure. I don't think any other England captain in recent memory would have declared any earlier , they wouldn't dream of leaving so much time in the game for a powerful batting line up like India's to even have a sniff of winning the game, should they wish to attempt it, and that in my view is not being negative it's pure cricketing common sense , it would be almost impossible to come back from 2-0 down ,so that eventuality has to be taken out of the equation before anything else Absolutely right - plenty of areas where criticism is reasonable, for example too negative in his field settings (as now with just two slips and one gully) and, IMO, he should have batted faster this afternoon, but there ain't a captain in recent times that would have done anything other than go out to bat girl the second Innings.

He is still too defensive, far too defensive. With a huge lead conceding runs isn't a problem - he should have at least four men in the cordon behind the wicket and a forward short leg girl the quicks. Could even add a backward short leg and have four slips and a gully to close of play tonight.

Another one bites the dust - 3 down. Good stuff Mr Root!
I was thinking just before that that he needed more men round the bat; had just two, and should have had four. Let's see what he does for Root's next over.
But I see a fourth slip has been added for Jordan - the delivery after a ball went through that space!

It shouldn't be that your best batter is your captain. It should be the person best equipped to captain. Cook has demonstrated time and again he lacks the skills a captain needs so it should be taken off him. A win here and there, a Cook century or two doesn't change this.

I'm thinking more about the upcoming tests should we win a couple and Cook fully regains his form, then what will happen is Cook will be seen as Captain Marvel. Even though, as you say, he'll still be the same as ever. Watching just now he's brought in a third close fielder for Ali - two fresh batsmen you have to have at least another close fielder. He's finally brought in a short leg for Broad and added another man in the slip cordon. But - tonight it doesn't matter. England are on top and looking very good for a win tomorrow. I'm just going to enjoy the moment - well until I go out and cut my lawn at close of play

I think India have played Moeen all wrong, whilst not being reckless why not just do something else other than sit back in the crease and prod? Just entices trouble.
