Question for the Cricket buffs. When a fielder knocks the stumps out of the ground, when the batters are going for a run,and the ball goes off towards the ropes, and the batters keep running for extra runs, what are the rules for a run out, with one set of stumps out of the ground? If you have to knock the bails off before the batter reaches safety,to run him out,but in this instance the bails are already off one of the wickets. Also why should a fielder be punished for good cricket by hitting the stumps, and the batting side run for extra runs because the ball was deflected off the stumps?

Also why should a fielder be punished for good cricket by hitting the stumps, and the batting side run for extra runs because the ball was deflected off the stumps? I'd assume that in that instance a member of the fielding side has to hold up one of the stumps and hold the ball against it. Just as when the stumps are broken at one end, to affect a run out you have to remove a stump from the ground and hold the ball against it. The answer to your final question is a simple, it's the rules of the game and just hard luck. Just as when a ball that swings wildly down the leg side and goes for 4 is signaled as 'Byes' which effectively goes as a black mark against the wicket-keeper who has done nothing wrong. It's also open to conjecture, because there are many instances (especially in one-day cricket) when the fielder doesn't actually need to throw the ball towards the stumps, yet proceeds to do so, it canons off and he concedes unecesarry over-throws (extra runs) which could then be called as punishing a fielder for being 'stupid'.

It may have already been mentioned but it's quite ironic that India are taking the high moral ground with regards to the alleged Anderson push whilst at the same time they send a chairman to the ICC who has been charged with corruption and also retain a captain who is heavily and widely being alleged as one of the 12 players involved in the IPL spot fixing scandal, you really couldn't make it up.

Yes indeed and it's Dohni who is the instigator of these charges against Anderson , he is the one who pushed for it to put to a hearing instead of leaving matters to the match referee ....as you say ironic

What changes for Old Trafford?
Plunkett for Jordan? Stokes for Woakes. Replace Robson or will they give him to the end of the series.
Personally, I'd just put Plunkett in?

Anderson found not guilty. Good news. Shame the Dhoni took this so far. They should have just shook hands at the end of the game and had a laugh about it.
