How is it desperate? There's plenty on this forum who openly admit they don't like Americans? Some can't accept he played very well at centre back. It's like they have to find fault. and some can't accept that Cameron has played centre half for Stoke in the premier league and didnt play very well or that Bardsley has been signed to play right back, this ridiculous argument is based on how he plays for the USA against inferior opposition. Playing the race card i desperate and pathetic, i hate the jocks but i love Charlie Adam and think he should start ahead of Ireland and i'm 1/4 Irish Cameron was given how many chances at centre back ? Two? Three? We endured repeated poor performances by Wilson and he eventually improved a lot. Who says Cameron wouldn't? How am I playing the race card you nugget? I'm merely pointing out that theres a few who openly dislike Americans.

No one on here is actually saying Cameron is a bad player or should leave the club, theres no need to get so defensive. Hughes thought Wilson was a better option when Huth was out and i agree with him, next season with Huth back, Muniesa more settled and this new Brazillian / Slovak Cameron is unlikely to get a look in at centre half. He has been an important part of the squad for the past two seasons and hopefully will be for a long time to come but i would be suprised to see him starting against Villa.

I haven't really offered an opinion on Cameron either way have I?
And I'm not particularly bothered about whether I've been wrong or right about players past or present, although and with respect, it seems to matter quite a lot to you.
Rather, by simply looking at the facts, ie. the signing of Bardsley and the new contract given to Wilko, it would suggest to me that Cameron won't be getting much game game time at right back next season, that's not a criticism of the player but just a simple observation, one I'm sure any impartial observer would come to if they were looking at the facts (and the facts alone) too.
At the end of the day Cameron might play a ton of games for us next season at right back but with the evidence we have at the moment that doesn't look likely.
We'll find out soon enough of course.
I don't disagree with what you say, it's just your omitting one key fact. Bardsley had a worse season last year. Fact. You can dress it how you like, his two OG's were enough for me to even question the signing! Mind you Geoff was a stand in. With that being known if Hughes can turn him into gold like he has with so many players, including Cameron. Yey. If he starts at RB and does amazing. Great. But who knows his plans nothing is concrete or factual it's all "assuming" Well I tell you when we signed Bardsley I assumed he had a better season, he didn't. Hughes might want him as cover for Cameron and keep Whelan, Nzonzi and Sidwell because he has options with Bardsley at RB and will move Cameron into CDM, who knows! You are right that we will see. How is "Bardsley had a worse season last year" a FACT? Wasn't Bardsley their top goalscorer last season? Pretty good from right back I would have said. Bardsley has also played, successfully, at left back so offers cover in both full-back positions were we in desperate times due to injuries or suspensions. In a defence that leaked goals, Sunderland didn't want to lose Bardsley which suggests to me that he had a pretty good season. I think he will be a good signing and hopefully he will be good enough to consign "Cameron at right back" to the dustbin once and for all. Time will tell. I would be surprised if he didn't start the season as our first choice right back though.

I admire your optimism but Cameron hasn't managed to improve his crossing or positional awareness despite his many appearances so his track record is against him. He had the same positional problem playing the other night.

In a team that finished 9th in the table, Cameron was so poor at right back he only has a rating of 7.2 average, giving him the second best rating of the entire team. There are some people on here that wouldn't know a footballer from a servant.

I really believe Geoff could be good competition for Whelan this season, even though Whelan had a great season!

I said second best rating not player, however the high rating indicates he was doing a good job. Plus the fact Pulis & Hughes obviously rate him or are they wrong too?

There are some people on here that wouldn't know a footballer from a servant. Average rating by who exactly? If you are going to come out with this shite, people who don't agree with you obviously dont know football then at least give your own opinion instead of a rating you have read somewhere. Cameron didnt have a bad season, but if you really think he was the second best player then you clearly don't know football. Mark Hughes probably thinks Bardsley is a servant if hes going to play him at right back next season

Hughes also has signed a Centre back, a midfielder a striker and is looking at wingers. Not a fan of the team at all is he?

Sweeping statement alert......'most of the world openly dislike Americans'...... Is that all of South and North America? Stick to football matey. My view? 1. I like Americans. I have good friends and colleagues living and working in North and South America. 2. All top blokes with a decent sense of humour and beer swilling capabilities. 3. Without the sizeable input of North America in WW2 both in terms of men and equipment we would all be supporting a slightly different team now 4. Cameron played really well the other night. He will be in the mix for selection next season as will the other lads, competition for places in a side is always good news. Lighten up you lot and grab a beer before it's too late UTP!!!

Hughes also has signed a Centre back, a midfielder a striker and is looking at wingers. Not a fan of the team at all is he? The striker will go straight into the team, like the right back. The winger likely will as well. The centre back is one for the future, not an experienced Premier League player who turned down a new contract to come here. No idea what will happen with Sidwell but he has tougher competition. May well start too though. By and large he's addressed the problem positions. Why do you think he considered right back one?

Diouf will be replacing Crouch, but i can't see any threads quoting made up stats saying Crouch was the 2nd best player last season. Why sign another centre half when its Cameron's best position?

We could have had the best right back in the world and he still would've gone for another. It's more to do with him not rating Wilko and Shots than it is with him not rating Geoff.

No one likes to talk about it but we are destined to lose a few this window or in the next few. We have cover in the event Bego goes. Others hoping to push on their careers or getting feelers from big clubs include Shawcross, Nzonzi and eventually Arnautovic. Sidwell in for pending Nzonzi departure. Bardsley in to free up Geoff to compete for CB position and for sure when Ryan goes.
I like Huth as much as anyone but am willing to bet they will move him on due to style of play.
Wilko signing makes little sense however you want to spin it..

Why not sign a Muniesa/Teixera style up and comer in that case, someone to act as understudy and get their chance here and there? Instead he's signed a player who was seeing plenty of first team football where he was and was offered a new contract there. Someone with plenty of experience of an age where they want to be playing as much as they can - their peak years. He'll be on decent money too, in an age where we're a lot more particular about who comes in and for how much. He's not coming here to play second fiddle.

Anybody who thinks that dear Geoff will be in the shake up for right back next season is as deluded as anyone who thinks he was anything other than shocking for nine tenths of last season. Occam's razor and all that.
Hughes is no idiot.

He is also more than capable of passing the ball 10 yards into his midfield colleagues or across the line to Ryan. The only thing that will scupper Huth is injury if this knee problems proves persistant or debillitating.

I think Hughes will go into the Season with an open mind though. I think pre-season training and performances in friendlies will play a big part. I refuse to believe he has already made his mind up over who will play in that position. I rate Bardsley so I wouldn't be suprised if got the nod. I rate Geoff too though, so it's not a forgone conclusion for me. I definitely expect Les to make them play for the shirt, like he has done with everyone else so far. If Bardsley gets the nod at the start of the season, and keeps the shirt through to Jan, then I have no doubt that Cameron will look for a move (or at least consider his options, or seek reassurances). I just don't think it will be as straightforward as that though.

Well, since you can count the adequate games that he had on one hand, yes, nine tenths of the season. He was dreadful on the pre-season tour, a huge part of our early season defensive frailty and a regular source of opposition goals from the Man Utd away game to the end of the season.
