Good player. Good squad and potentially first team player. Good for competition for places and good length of contract. Good deal.
Todays message is brought to you by the word good.

Sidwell's contract was up 30th June 2014, believe be bad a filling 1 year on it but Fulham did not take it up, due to his desire to play premier league, and his wages would be rather large for a championship side

I agree with the earlier post when Stoke beat Fulham at home, Sidwell was their man of the match with skill and no little effort. Can't lose on such a player. Hopefully Palacios continues playing out of his skin and we get a decent fee for him. Nzonzi can go.

And the club recouped virtually all the money Boskamp spent by selling Ben Foster, John Halls and Clive Clarke. Indeed. Three players nurtured and developed by TP.

Thank goodness the likes of Shawcross begovic and Huth weren't sold as that'd put a big dent in that onehundredfuckingmillionspackaroos.

Very happy with Sidwell personally.
Not "rock", or "the" or "city" but on a freebie, he'll be great to have around - especially if a looming Gallic mega strop means we offload anyone out of the MF.
Let's get MBD announced & ano winger in and give "Mark and his team" a full pre season to work with the refreshed squad.

Did Pulis really "nurture and develop" Clarke? I'd argue it was Gudjon who did that, not Pulis. And Foster, he was "nurtured and developed" through going out on loan to Wrexham then at Man United. Can't argue with Halls though.

I would like to see Stoke win the PL, the present structure prevents it, I'm amazed people are so complacent and accepting of this. Let's get a bit of perspective here about Stoke. Finishing in 9th as we did last season was our joint 10th highest ever league finish in the top flight of football. 3 up to the 1900's; 7 up to the 1950's and then the 2 in 73/74 and 74/75. We've never, EVER won the top flight honours in our entire history - even without this 'present structure'. Even when we had what many regard as our best team, packed full of legends, we still wouldn't have finished in what would now be a Champions League spot.

I thinks its just a decent signing no more no less. Adds good competition for places and brings in experience and he should hit the ground running seeing as he knows ireland and the coaching team well.

I don't think it matters that Sidwell may not get the blood rushing to your tip. He will be a solid addition to a midfield that did very well last year. Not every signing has to be a rock the city one. Does anyone remember when we signed Shawcross. I doubt anyone had a clue who he was when his name was read out at Cardiff away and look at what he has become for us. Now I not suggesting that Sidwell or even Bardsley will be like that for us but it is a good start to the summer and I for one am pleased with the transfer team right now

Shawcross, like any youngster, is going to be a gamble - this one paid off about one million per cent. With Sid, if I may call him that, you know what you're getting - and it's not too bad at all, as long as he keeps last seasons form. Also, hopefully, with his wealth of prem experience, he can pass that on to the younger first team squad & the up and coming ones from the reserves.

With Sidwell's energy and 'dog with a bone' attitude he'll be a consistent 7/10 player for us I reckon. He seems to still have a hunger for the fight so he's alright by me.

Very good signing. A talented midfielder with bags of premier league experience. Last season he proved he still has the engine? in terms of yards covered, and added goals to his game too. On a free transfer - it's a fantastic bit of business.
It definitely strengthens us. Good work carried out in the market so far, and it's been done early days to boot.

Darren Bent I suppose Odemwinge was freeloading at Cardif? Etherington was freeloading at West Ham? Beattie was Free Loading at Sheff Utd? Huth was freeloading at M'boro? Ireland was free loading at Villa? Adam was freeloading at Liverpool. I suppose Fuller was a Freeloader at Preston? It's funny, none of the above were pulling up any trees at their previous clubs yet they have done well here, can you even give me one good reaso why Darren Bent wouldn't follow suit? Bent is an out & out goalscorer anybody who tells me teams don't need one of them anymore is talking out their arse imo. Also telling me Bent would'nt work with three advanced forward players behind him like Arnautovic, Adam & Odemwinge? Seriously, I hope you are kidding. Bent like many a player who has lost his way has been unfortunate to work under some real uninspiring poor managers lately, & a number of them too. In the past couple of years he's been managed by McLeish, Lambert, Jol, Mulenstein & Penfold off Dangermouse. A lot of managers in a short space of time & shit ones at that. I'm unconvinced that Hughes can't get Bent enjoying his football aagain & firing at (only) the age of 30.

Ok signing on a free. Bit concerned about his age. 31 is no age. The England captain is 3 years older and Liverpool have just spent £4m on a 32 year-old striker. Odemwingie didn't do too bad for us last season either.

I'll piss myself if Bent ends up at Palace with Pulis on a cheap as chips loan or permanent transfer to replace Jerome & goes back to doing what he does best, we all know he's a long time admirer Pulis is.

His type of striker doesn't suit us and he's been beyond slothful and knackered at two different clubs now. He's a step back.

Arnie, have you watched Darren Bent at all in the last two years? His type of striker doesn't suit us and he's been beyond slothful and knackered at two different clubs now. He's a step back. So why did Hughes, a manager with an exemplary record with forwards, openly admit to trying and failing to sign him last summer? Because he was desperate for players maybe? Because he didn't entirely know the squad/system he wanted to work with yet? Why did he think Wilson Palacios was the man to anchor our midfield before he got his testes in a twist? I don't see how that means none of that stuff is true. If Bent had signed he'd have been a shocking signing, like Guidetti.
