I can only hope he goes. Championship standard at his very best. I was about to post a smart comment in response to this but I just googled Championship Standard and annoyingly it seems you are correct. Championship Standard = plays regularly at international and Premier league level. Selected and praised by numerous high profile and successful managers.

If we end up 'perming' from Diouf, Arnautovic, Odemwingie, Assaidi, Crouch, and possibly Rivière, for the front 3, Jon will probably not make the bench some/most weeks, and neither should he.

Might hit double figures if you take into account his (ahem) penalties? Might cost you more points than he wins you? I don't dislike JW, great servant, committed hard worker; but we have moved on, and sentiment goes out of the window.

Great news. Fuck him off. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Chumslopper using proboards we signed him for next to fuck all and he has done well for us. to tell him to fuck off is an insult to him and every fair minded stoke fan. I personally believe he had become a little complacent his performances after he came back into the side were much improved.its good that we have good quality back up for each position. I am sure he can still do a job for scfc. He doesn't want to play backup though does he? That's what the thread is about. He is not good enough to play up top week in week out.

If he stays he will inevitably have to accept that his future lies on the bench. I think he knows that having seen how its been for him for the last few weeks. If he goes then I'm grateful for all his efforts and his hard work but the team has moved on and if he doesn't accept it then he should too.

What rankles with me is that no matter his limitations as a player, people can be so bloody mealy-mouthed. He's been a great servant to us through good and bad times and has suffered through TP's borderline obsession with playing him at all times. Let's not forget that Hughes persevered with him for a good while too. If he leaves then I wish him well. I'll be sad to see him go and if we are to progress Jon Walters may well need to move on too. Some folk on here are far too disrespectful. This !!! But you know it goes way beyond being disrespectful - I despair sometimes at the vitriol aimed at our own players, particularly those who have just done an honest job.

I just prefer the 'great we have competition for places and I am confident that if I work aard and take my chances then I'll earn my place back' line. Fair enough. I still think it's nothing you wouldn't expect someone in his position to say and is nothing like the Guidetti situation.
How does it compare to the N'Zonzi 'situation'?
He's saying play me or I'm off.

Shouldn't the players in form be the ones to make the team/bench? Given your amazing ability to predict the future can you tell me the numbers in next Saturday's lottery please.

Nzonzi has been playing. Walters hasn't. Walters is saying if he isn't playing he'll want to go somewhere where he is. I don't see why that's not understandable.

Bollocks is he. He's saying I'm not happy if I'm not playing. What do you want him to say? I'll be delighted to play in the reserves and pick up a big fat cheque every week. It's far less stressful and I don't have to put any effort at all in. I hope we sign another seven strikers so I can see out my contract without the manager annoying me on a Saturday afternoon.

someone should show him the stats of assists/goals per minute vs. his colleagues in the position - Odemwingie/Assaidi/Arnautovic. Having said that he could stake more of a claim in playing upfront. Hes more mobile than Crouch (just about), and he puts himself about, but hes not the finisher you want on the end of chances. Prefer to keep Walters than Crouch due to his flexibility but he should not be starting next season But he runs about a lot and er er er runs about a lot and er er er, well you know nothing unless you are a professional football manager you miss what he brings to the team, according to some on here he is admired by many top managers so we should have no problem selling SJW wouldn't be surprised if Madrid are not sniffing around.

He's bang average and I don't think he has much to offer 'the new way'.
Free up some wages and let him go, he'll do a job for a newly-promoted team or a top Championship side.

No I don't see why Walters' stance isn't understandable. Would you rather we had a bench full of Michael Tonges who aren't fussed if they play or not. The Nzonzi thing isn't the same is it? If the Nzonzi rumours are true he isn't leaving because he's not getting first team opportunities but because he thinks he can do better.

I like him as an option from the bench but he doesn't appear to be keen on that option.

With his limited ability I would have thought that an option from the bench in the Premiere league is where his future is, the amount of points he cost us last season would indicate that he is not a starting option, unless his surrogate dad at Palave or one of the newly promoted clubs take him he will find his starting options will be in the Championship.

Walters has been here for four years, and to my knowledge has never caused the club a problem. All he's said is that the problem will have to be addressed if he's not in the team. N'Zonzi's been here two years, and despite only having one short spell out of the team, has already put in three transfer requests and acted like a miserable kid for a lot of the time he's been here.
If you're arguing over ability, I'd say N'Zonzi is much more important to us, but they're worlds apart in respect of attitude.

Who said it's not understandable? If he thinks he can get into someone else's first team then good luck to him, not a problem. He ain't good enough for ours.
N'Zonzi wants to better himself - good luck to him. I'd be sad to see him go but as long as we get the correct money then so be it.

So it's very possible he will be on his way. H

I've got absolutely no problem with these sorts of comments at all. Jon Walters should want to play, it's what he trains for all week. Whether or not he can force his way into starting contention for next season is really down to him. They're not the comments of a man spitting his dummy out, just somebody being honest with himself and how he wants his career to progress. It's a shame as I'd be more than happy to have Jon Walters warming the bench for us, rather than the likes of Kenwyne Jones last season. If I'm totally honest, I cannot see Jon Walters getting many starts next season but I still reckon he'll fight it out for another year.

I'd like to keep Walters here, but on the provision he is a bench player. If he doesn't like that then move on. He has done well for us on the whole, but some of his performances have been abysmal, through some fault of his own and other with the management team for sticking with him regardless. Very hit and miss in front of goal and his penalties are shite. His overall game doesn't warrant a starting place.
