What can you say about Glenn and his contributions this season?? Apart from simply brilliant that is.
He's been a revelation. Dominating the middle. Winning tackles, spraying passes and allowing the likes of Arnie, Assaidi and Wingie the freedom to attack and express themselves.
Always underrated, often written off but at no point did Glenn get his head down or believe any of the "only good enough for the Championship" crap. He probably didn't even listen.
He's a link to what we were pre-Prem and probably the best example I've seen in red and white of "making the most of what you have".
He's hardworking, plays the game simply and doesn't seem to give a toss that he rarely gets the recognition that his efforts deserve.
Personally i think he's absolutely integral to what we are now and he's thriving in the new set up. While Shawcross and Bego have been outstanding its Whelan who, for me, has been consistently on top of his game. Influential, professional and consistent.
My player of the season.

Absolute transformation now he has been given a great mix of responsibility and freedom.

I'd still have Bego (who was a million miles in front in the first half of the season) and Shawcross ahead of him.
But he has been superb, no doubt about it.
Real old school character. Shows no emotion on the pitch, even during goal celebrations!
Just works his absolute balls off for 90 minutes at all times in the key area of the pitch - and has shown he's got a lot more about him than was evident while he was caged!

Best player? No. I think Shawcross has my vote.

Ryan and Bego have been outstanding but the kind of swift counter attacking and ball playing team we've turned into needs a player like Whelan to do the dirty work and be the glue. Very hard to choose between the three.

Ryan for me and I think he has a massive year ahead of him with Asmir possibly leaving and no certainty about who will be playing alongside him.

He has been one of the best signings EVER made by SCFC
£500k and has been a pivotal part of everything we have achieved and playing to instruction which many on here have refused to see
It's mindboggling that players like Whitehead get threads thanking them for their service etc etc ( rightly so ) but Whelan often gets slaughtered by what used to be a vast majority but is now becoming a small handful
Glenn Whelan you are a credit to SCFC

Last ten games, yep. All season, nope. So Whelan has been great all season? Nope. I think so. From what I've seen. There were times when very few of our players looked great but i always thought Whelan was consistent and solid. I wasn't trying to be flippant just think that Glenn has provided the platform for the crowd pleasers to do their stuff.

He's been very good recently but yesterday I thought he went up another notch with the responsibility of the captaincy.
Such a shame that he has found himself in the same team as Begovic and Shawcross when he deserves some kind of recognition.

Odemwingie has transformed us and scored some big goals. Would you rather be without him or Arnie, or Glennda?! Cameron had a brilliant first half of the season. Glennda has had a very good second half. There's nowt between the two in that aspect.

Delap is the best defensive midfielder we've had in the prem. He could do all the defensive work but still get forward and chipped in with the odd goal, despite playing in the cage. Whelan hasn't got a positive bone in his body. Begovic is now more prolific than Glennda.
