As good second half of the season as he was bad the first half. Now looks to go forward, benefited from better coaching. Nothing to do with better coaching as such , better formation definitely ,Whelan has always played well when he has had options (Remember 2011 season when Ethers and Pennant were flying) , it was when we played without wingers and the midfield options were, lump it to Crouch or pass sideways/backwards that he looked crap, but any midfielder would look crap in that system. He has proved this season that he is a very good defensive midfielder who does all the unglamorous stuff well and has shown he can pass the ball and is a worthy contender for player of the season .

Excellent yesterday but for all round best player of the season has to be Ryan or Bego. Anyone with half a brain knows this.
To be fair mate, didn't you rate him as the worst Stoke player on the pitch yesterday?

So it's just a wind up then. Fair play. No wind up. Anyone who puts Whelan in the same bracket as Bego and Ryan for player of the season is clearly fucking deluded. End of discussion.

So you stand by your claim that Whelan was the worst Stoke player on the pitch yesterday?

I gave him a 7 out of 10. That means I think he had a good game. I still think Assaidi amd Arnie were streets ahead of him.

It's like when we signed Odemwingie and everyone on here was up in arms saying how wank he was and how shit a deal we had made. I tried telling everyone at the time he'd be a good signing. Look how that turned out. Anyway, it's time for Fargo now. It's been a pleasure.

The lowest mark of every Stoke player who took to the field yesterday?

Anyone who doesn't have him in so much as their top five performers of the season either has an agenda or can't judge a footballer to save their life.

Over the course of the season, he is comfortably third ,after Shawcross and Begovic.

I used to think that once we'd got rid of Whelan, Walters and Wilko from the starting eleven we'd truly made it in terms of our Premier League future advancement. I've got to admit Whelan has changed my opinion of this in the last few months and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Ryan and Beggers, I'm pleased to be proven wrong about him.

He is playing football that I never thought he was capable of and I wouldn't be concerned at all if we started next season with him in our midfield.
There is no way I ever thought I would be saying that about our Glen, but sometimes you just have to hold your hands up,he's been superb this season.

If the season was half as long he'd definitely be up there but he had a poor start, he is the most improved player IMO, I never thought I'd say it but now the shackles have been taken off a good player has emerged that looks like the donkey called Glen Whelan that we had playing for us since 2008. Gouranga.

I would say Shawcross then Whelan.
Glenn has been brilliant this season but never gets the credit he deserves.

He's never been one of my favourite players but to give the bloke credit whenever he's been dropped he's come back adding another 20% to his game each and every time.
He's currently the best defensive midfielder we've got and for 500k one of the best signings Pulis has made.

I've said plenty on this thread in regards to Glenn. He is nowhere near in the same bracket as Ryan or Bego. It's as simple as that. In that respect, the thread is absolute horse shit.

Glenn always works hard and is such an intelligent passer, but Begovic is my vote.

Have to be Ryan for me. With Bego second. Glenn at a close third. The captains been the most consistent player all season and by that meaning the "entire" season and showed why he was the one man we missed yesterday. We'd have a clean sheet if he was in the middle. Most improved for the "entire" season would be Whelan easily. Been a different player in a new system with him holding the play as a reset man. At times almost every player stepped up for the second half of this season. First half of the season, Cameron was vital to our side as we were going through identity pains. As was Crouch. There's no doubt Hughes has made many players in a Stoke kit better this season in my eyes. Plus you have the impact transfer of Peter Odemwingie bringing in more positive play and skill. God it was a good year really. From all, so hard to choose! I could say Arnie, Crouch, Ireland, Muniesa etc just for a single game because in a sense they all made the season for me just not one player.

TBH I've regularly criticised him over the past few seasons and included him in the not good enough category (as Walters). However, I will admit that this season he's been decent. Well done.
