If we can replace 24 hours before the first game it gives him 8 days. At that point see where he is at. If hes still a week away its a judgement call. If hes a few days away keep him in.

Are they made of glass? Every time one of them falls over he's out for a month, it's pathetic really

I agree that if he is likely to make any of the group games I'd keep him in. Any longer and I'd be tempted to replace him with Stones rather than any of the midfielders on the standby list. As has been pointed out, we are blessed in that area of the squad but we certainly do not have any strength in depth at centre back. It could be a good opportunity to prevent the doomsday scenario of Smalling and Jones starting a World Cup game!

What is frustrating is that after losing the ball Ox got back to retrieve it and got his body and leg in the way. The Ecuador player then kicked the back of OC's leg and both went down. The other player's reaction in shoving the Ox off him contributed to the injury I think and we got a foul awarded against us! Just a freak accident really and you don wonder if we'll see him at all this WC.

Is Woy having a go at Barkley, so he has an excuse to leave him out, so his love child Rooney has to play?

Good point. Fitness levels would be a problem. Said player doesnt have to be in the matchday squad against Italy though. Be ready for the 19th. If Woy didnt pick them in first place then they are hardly likely to be in starting line up. Personally i'd rather a possible 1 game from Ox, rather than a couple of sub appearences from Carrick/Cleverly.

If jagielka is a first choice england defender, it shows how bad things are for our national team. In reality he should not even be on the plane.

Henry Winter ?@henrywinter 2m Hodgson on Barkley: “He’s rather hoping he can get in starting XI & be the main man. What he’s got to learn is every mistake can be crucial'
No fear Woy!
EDIT-another one;
Henry Winter ?@henrywinter 2m Hodgson: "We believe in Ross Barkley but people shouldn’t be suggesting our World Cup should be hinging on his performance''. #eng
SHUT THE FUCK UP WOY!

Managing the England national team is near enough an impossible job.
Every England manager has to deal with the media/ex players/current players/fans, all who know better than him about tactics, player selection and motivation.
The bottom line is, that with this group of players, ranked 10th in the world,getting out of the group will be a big achievement.
Hope Roy can prove his critics wrong and do really well.

I can see how the Stevie song may work. '90 sets a high bar though, and I really loved the '98 titles as well. Seem to remember the South African one being totally unremarkable, in keeping with the tournament! I think I'm secretly pining for Des Lynam

Ribery has been ruled out, Ronaldo may not be fit, Suarez may not be fit.
Is the stage set for Messi?

I think I'm secretly pining for Des Lynam The titles for this world cup will undoubtedly include slow-motion footage of Pele, Carlos Alberto and Banks's save, and shots of Christ The Redeemer, carnivals, people playing football on a beach in Speedos and the police shooting street-children.

Just read Ribery out of World Cup. Schniederlin from Southampton called up I believe.
This World Cup is possibly losing some quality players.

I think playing Rooney in the hole is a massive mistake and whether he starts there or not could have a massive impact on our chances at the tournament, he either starts up top or he doesn't start at all for me.
My XI for Italy would be, playing in a 4-3-3:
-----------------Hart-----------------
Jones----Cahil--- Jagielka----Baines
--------------Gerrard-----------------
------Wilshere-------Lallana----------
---Sterling---Rooney---Sturridge---

I think I'd be tempted with this;
Hart
Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines
Gerrard Jones
Sterling Barkley Lallana
Sturridge

I could definitely live with that Bayern and it's certainly a better team than the one Roy will go with, having said that, I wouldn't start Johnson even if we only had eleven fit players available.

There is no manager on the planet who would leave Rooney out for the first game.

I think Milner, Wilshere and Welbeck will start, the rest of the team is fairly predictable.

It's a tough one but the hope with the side I picked is that Jones could cover him in times of need. And Jones in midfield is just through the need to have a genuine defensive player in there. If we had any of the following over Smalling in the squad, I'd happily see them at right back or Jagielka out there with one of these at centre half..........Flanagan, Walker, Davies, Dawson, Terry, Shawcross, Lescott, Caulker.
