Crouchy's been fantastic during this spell of form. I don't see why he'd go anywhere. It's not as if we'd getting meaningful money for him. Great guy to have around.

while his £3.15m salary would test Stoke's wage structure.
Even though reports in Germany say Wolfsburg are offering him about £2m-a-year in their new contract offer (so presumably we'd be offering him similar?), that's still a lot by our standards for someone who wouldn't be an everyday 90 minute player - especially for the second season of the deal which he'll kick off just prior to his 36th birthday! He still obviously looks fit - but only a few weeks ago, he was saying he wouldn't mind being on the bench as his whole body ached after a midweek international game. But maybe, as a whole package, with no transfer fee, it does kind of still make sense for such an experienced player of his pedigree who still has more than one Bundesliga suitor by the looks of it.

I have a feeling Crouchy could be off. I think that Crouch is very much in favour with MH. Age is only a number, a mixture of experience and youth is his thinking in my opinion. We have also shown an interest in other younger players, the challenge is to develop a squad of players to move the club forward and that means having strength in depth.

Wolfsburg local paper pretty much has the same story Not much time remains for Ivica Olic to make his promise from last weekend true: After the 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt he had assured to provide clarity by the end of the week, whether he is extending his expiring contract at the "wolves" for one year.
"I know that the week is over soon ," the Croat said on Wednesday afternoon. " I have not yet decided , but by the end of the week I'll tell you how it goes . "
At VfL Wolfsburg , the 34 - year-old can extend his contract for one year plus an option on a second . His remuneration would thereby reduce from the current four million euros per year to around 2.5 million euros . In addition, for Olic there is a two-year offer from the English first division club Stoke City.
According to Wolfsburger Nachrichten information Olic had traveled on Monday for renewed negotiations with Stoke . Sticking point is the salary. No player at the Premier League club earns more than 2.5 million euros a year. Olic would indeed be amongst the top earners , but it would not be more than he would get at VfL. Nevertheless, Stoke are optimistic that Olic opts for their club .
But Dieter Hecking has not given up hope. " He has an high value for the team," said the VfL ??coach to Sky Sports News : "The decision now lies with him. "

The only Stoke City side to ever win a major (ish) trophy had a mix of old and young players. Eastham and Dobing provided the experience to back up the vigour of younger players in their prime. I'm assuming, if Olic does come to join Wingie and Crouch stays, that there will be at least one younger striker and probably a younger winger joining as well. Just for the sake of argument say that we get Agudelo's permit approved and also sign someone like Zaha - that would give us 6 players for the front 3 in a 433 or to cover the two strikers and wingers in a 442.
Oldies: Olic, Crouch, Wingie
Youngsters: Agudeluo, Arnie, Zaha
That would do me. If Agudelo doesn't get his permit then someone like Diouf would be needed. With 3 of the 6 being in their 30s they would mind less about being on the bench than if all our options were youngsters.

I just can't see us having to rely on Crouch for another season John and doubt that Agudelo will be ready. I'd gladly wave goodbye to Walters and bring someone like Diouf in with a new winger on loan (Zaha would be good but he'd be expecting regular starts).

I should have said Mike, that I was assuming Walters would be off even if Crouch wasn't. I'm not one of the Walters "haters but I think our form whilst he was suspended probably shows we can do without him. If his scoring was up to the standard of the cup final season, things would be different - but, sadly, it isn't. Conversely, I rather think we'll keep Crouch to the end of his contract. The arrival of Wingie has shown that Crouch can still do a job for us, although, like you, I think he should start taking a back seat to a younger more mobile striker and I still think that Diouf is a possibility.

I have a feeling Crouchy could be off. More like SJW me thinks. Olic is basically the same player as Jon but better.

Much higher wages than I thought
does cast the deal in a different light
none the less I still feel he would be a cracking player to have on the bench

We'd all want a younger striker to be brought in, in an ideal world.
If he scores goals it'd be irrelevant though. Age is quickly forgotten when you find the back of the net on a regular basis.
There's nothing to say he'd be the only one we'd bring in though. For a start, Agudelo could also be an option come August.

What many don't grasp mate is that the young striker who scores goals that they all crave would be attracting interest fron bigger clubs than us If we go for a player from the championship it's also slaughtered on here but they are happy to buy from an obscure league in Europe where it's not as strong as the championship Get him onboard Hughesy lad

Big summer this for Hughes, he could have a packed midfield, think we are going to see some shocks along the way.

Thanks Fullermagic. Interesting that stat only 3 assists for a number 10 that sits just behind the striker. The goal column looks alright.

He should frigging bury that one that hits the bar.
They'll be close to qualifying for the Champions League at this rate. Which'd be wank because I really want us to sign him.

BildThe poker for a contract extension in Wolfsburg is as tough as chewing gum. Olic (contract runs out) can extend at VfL or switch to Stoke City (England). He admits: "I was last week with my wife in England. We liked it. But I have not decided yet. "
