At the ground today according to a Teamtalk bod on Twatter. This chappie, Rob? Scott Richards ?@scottrichardss 1mIvica Oli? was at Stoke City today with partner & possibly agent. They had a meal with club officials and spent time with the physio. #SCFC Intereating if true. Where do we see Olic playing in the bright new future of Hughesball? That's him FM. Another wide option primarily do we think?

Yeah - you'd think so.
Whether he'd dislodge Wingie or Arnie, who knows?
Wonder if he's still quick? Or whether time has robbed him of his turn of speed. Interesting he was recorded as the quickest player at Euro 2008!
Sadly, that was 6 years ago.
Had to laugh at his nickname in one German report yesterday - 'Grandpa Goal'!

Has anything been mentioned re: how much this could cost? If it's not (comparatively) a lot, then I think it's a good 1-2yr punt on a player that can probably still produce that something different.
Age is a number if you've looked after yourself.
I suppose a lot would depend upon what role he expects. First name on the team sheet, or a bit-part-off-the-bench option who is just happy to have one last decent Contract and a shot at the Prem?

Olic has always been a hard-working and very physically fit player. I think Hughes would have him competing with Odemwingie for the right hand side spot/pushing through the middle with the lone striker.
As far as age is concerned, it varies from player to player and I think we will see a lot more players at the highest levels into their late thirties. For instance, Michael Owen was burnt out at 27, whereas Odemwingie looks lightning quick and I reckon he has a few years left at this level at least, very impressed with him.
As well as Olic I think we will be after another lone striker to compete with Crouch

He might be knocking on but just on Bundesliga they questioned where Wolfsburg would be without his goals as he scored

Olic is still banging them in for Wolfsburg! Ok, so he will need a season to get him used to playing football in England so that will make hi m36 when he starts the following season. If he were 10 years younger, yes. But dont waste the money

He might not need a season to get use to the prem, some, all be it very few, hit the ground running

Finally got round to watching the Bundesliga review from this weekend. Olic scored and the commentator said he looks like leaving as he wants a 2 year contract and Stoke City could be his new destination.

I would guess that woth Arnie not being naturally a 90 minutes twice a week player, Odemwingie getting on and a paucity of other options, Olic will get plenty of time on the pitch.

Olic on a free transfer is worth a squad place. The length of contract is going to be the interesting factor.

They're an uber-rich club apparently - owned by Volkswagen. German reports suggest he is currently on a whopping 4m euros-a-year, but the new offer on the table is "only" a reduced 2.5m euros-a-year. So sounds like he's be amongst our top earners on about £40,000-a-week? link

Got a very good feeling about him if we get him.
Shades of George Eastham about an aging player with proven pedigree and class.
Liking the way we seem to be pursuing both youth and experience. Agudelo learning from Olic would hopefully see us gaining in a number of ways.
Things are looking far too positive for me........when I feel this good about Stoke something of a horribly crap nature usually happens. Fingers crossed we may be embarking on our Golden Age......

I think you have hit the nail on the head. We'll still need a younger striker to compete with Crouch (Diouf or similar) but Olic, Wingi and Arnie are all great options to compete for the "inverted" winger places and, in Olic and Wingie's case, also for the "number 10" role.

To be honest John, we need a striker to replace Crouchie as we still don't score enough goals. Don't get me wrong I like PC but he dictates that we play one way. I'm happy for him to stay though. Throw in a naturally left footed winger too and the job's a good un.

Just added to my post. With Arnie, Odemwingie and (if he joins) Olic, the right side would be fine. Don't forget Agudelo may come too. If so, I think Walters will leave, for Palace most probably.

I just like the fact we are now safe for next season and can start recruiting so bloody early for once! Get Diouf signed up next week and we wont even need a Summer Transfer thread at this rate

We'll have the oldest Strike force in the division with PO, PC and IO. Not ideal, plus Olic is after a 2-year deal.
