Jermaine Pennant with a point to prove will do me, especially as back up He's a bit of a dick in his private life but some of the greats we fawn about on a regular basis have been too. His crossing & close control were great to watch. He was a surprisingly hard worker in defence too.

I'm happy with this; Pennant with his head on straight is a great player. If it doesn't work out they'll release him in January. Very low risk and worth a punt.
Now, for a left back; resign Pej?

This is great news but it will remain to be seen if Mark Hughes is strong enough to deal with Pennant's indiscretions, before or after they happen! If he keeps JP on the right road we have a good enough winger for next season at least.

Ok so just ignore the questions and subsequent points and ramble on then. Standard operating procedure for yourself! H We have signed him to please the fans if that answers your question. Is that hard to understand? I just don't think it is a good signing is that also hard to understand? That's better, I knew you could do it. It's bollocks, but at least I understand your thought process. You know I find it amazing after all the abuse Pennant gets some of it rightly so, two things have been a constant in his life. 1. His private life is a mess 2. Managers still want to sign him Conclusion they obviously think he is a good player and worth the risk. I await Hughes re-signing Fuller to really please the fans. H

Excellent first move by Hughes. Quality player for nowt on a short low risk contract. Let the player play. Let the man deal with his own baggage. Let his performances on the pitch be the yardstick we judge him by not the way he lives his life.

Pennant had a point to prove last season. Famous last words being something like 'I want to be player of the year this season'. How did that turn out Jermaine?

Aah the magic of the unplayed player strikes again! Doesn't play means better than those that do. It's a bizzare but strangely attractive logic. You been under a rock whilst Pulis was manager dude? We all know he put his pride before the goodness of the club! The best bit of it is, he's been signed on a 'performance related' contract, which is obviously going to give him an incentive to play well. Last time we played any half decent football was the FA Cup run when Pennant was playing week in - week out! He might be a tool off the pitch but so what? He's probably got the best footballing brain at the club.

Pennant gets a new contract and Pulis gets his P45.
I wonder what the odds on that were 6 months ago?!

So the new contract absolves Jermaine Pennant of any blame for his behaviour? Pulis might've acted the cunt by not giving him another chance but Jermaine put himself in a position where it was likely he'd get dropped at best and shipped out at worst. Saint Jermaine strikes again. The prodigal son can do no wrong

Peters made a decision on what he (and most fans) feel is best for the club. It's common sense.
Fuck whatever that means regarding Pulis. Tones gone and MH is here now.

I wasn't Tone's biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination. Just can't help feeling that PC has been a bit disrespectful here. As far as being "common sense" ... only time will tell.

He was never given a proper chance to prove it with us before being pushed out. It didn't work for him at all at Wolves but we all know that there's a bloody decent winger in there. He has his final chance with us now. Let's hope it works for him and us.

How long do you have to wait before doing something the last guy might not have liked stops being disrespectful? Sacking him didn't show a shed-load of respect after all. FFS, forget Pulis, he's gone, and his feelings are irrelevant.

Tone had complete say over team matters and PC let him get on with it. What more can a manager ask.

With this in mind if Pennant has been as much trouble as some people think he must have been to have been frozen out then why on earth would he even entertain the thought of allowing Hughes to hold a meeting with him now that he's out of contract ? Either Coates is going senile in his old age or Pennant hasn't done anything like what people think he has.

Either Coates is going senile in his old age or Pennant hasn't done anything like what people think he has. Pretty sure he was drunk driving whilst banned skipped a red light and crashed his car when driving home from a night club. Receiving a suspended jail sentence and being rather lucky to escape prison in all honesty. Bloody Pulis, shouldn't have bought JP them jagerbombs. If you think Pennants misdemeanours were all down to fabrications stemming from Pulis dropping him then that's fine. Personally I think Jermaine needs to accept that he was a cunt and that his woes weren't exclusively down to the nasty manager not playing him. Ill-discipline has dogged his entire career he can't always blame someone else. If he'd lived a more professional lifestyle he wouldn't be putting up with the likes of Tony Pulis and be swilling around lower mid table Premeirship sides anyway.

As the dust settles on another season an ostracised player emerges from the wreck with a new contract and a fallen hero vanishes into oblivion.
I think the signing is a significant sign that TP had lost the friendship he once enjoyed with the owners a while back.
JP is no angel and the club have admitted as much by stipulating certain criterias in the new contract. I believe the signing is a foundation for MH to build on more than anything else........good move if that's the case.

Forget any politics involving Pulis, Coates or whoever. If Pennant can give 100% on and off the field, that's fine. If he can't get rid.
